I honestly had a hard time with this one. I really wanted to love it, but there where so many not good twists for me it was hard to see where the story was even going. I wont give any spoilers. I'm continuing this series because Massimo's character is interesting enough. Laura became annoying and I cant forget some of the things she's done. I don't see this series ending well or with a happily ever after. If you read the first book of course you want to continue. But with the cliffhanger from 365 there are no explanations that resolve that in the prologue or Chapter 1.. Its predictable and lots of sex, i mean lots. The Man in Black, ok we got that the first 20 times. I wont say its poorly written because I know it loses a lot in translation. But even my 3 stars are probably generous.
I can't believe I totally forgot to leave my review! This book was super steamy. It took me a little longer to read because I had so many interruptions, but I cannot wait for the next book. I plan to read all of them together eventually.
Thank you Netgalley and Atria/Emily Bestler Books for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is the sequel to the Netflix famous 365 days. It was a super steamy movie and book.
The sequel was interesting, but honestly just not as good as the first. Are sequels ever?
It still had an interesting storyline, and I enjoyed reading up on what happened next in their lives.
Book 2 in the 365 Days series was just as good as the first. Still super steamy, I liked that they got married and I would love to see her dress. I also enjoyed having Olga part of the story. It was nice for her to have someone close throughout all the secrets she had to keep from her own family. I also liked that even tho she had these secrets, Massimo allowed her some normalcy by allowing her to see her family. There were a few things that I didn’t like. Her inability to stay and figure things out was bothersome. She just jumped to conclusions instead of staying to get answers. And the situation I’m thinking of, her best friend knew the answers and she could have done a better job at resolving the issue instead of letting her run the way she did. I also still didn’t care for her calling him “the Man in Black.” Laura called him that in the first book and it didn’t work then either. I feel like a lot of things happened that were bad because of miscommunication.
While I didn’t love these books, they kept my interest and I’m genuinely curious how the third book is. After the way book 2 set it up I feel like book 3 can go in any direction. This was still a good read and I think it was a good continuation of book 1. Worth a read!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
I had to continue to find out what happened after the first book . Steamy book and I can’t get enough of Massimo. I wish the love between would have grown or shown more but overall I liked the plot. Can’t wait to see the movie
Did I think this was going to be better than book 1 (which was pretty bad translated/written), no? Was it? No. Will I watch the movie if one is made? Absolutely. This story isn't there... atleast not with the romance and connection, but neither was 50 shades and it was a success.
There is hot, and then there is THIS BOOK. This Day by Blanka Lipinska is nuclear hot. I loved that I had visuals of the characters from the 365 Days movie and the actors on Instagram pages. We met a few new characters in Don Massimo and Laura's world. Nacho (played by actor Simone Susinna in the 365 Days Part 2 movie) is crazy hot and quite a snack ;) We also get acquainted with Don Massimo’s twin brother. This Day played out like a steamyAF movie in my head. This smutastic mafia romance was hella sexy. Did I mention HOW CRAZY SEXY THIS BOOK IS? If you are looking for a wholesome, just-the-tip hearts and flowers romance, this is not it. These characters gold medaled in bedroom antics. I have to say the sexy time stuff did get a little old with a wash, rinse, repeat vibe. The Michele Morrone visuals made this 413-page book unputdownable.
This Day ended with a tear-jerker-worthy cliffhanger. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out in the final book in the 365 Days series. It needs to get translated from Polish to English ASAP. Teraz proszę.
I am a big fan of Romance books and I found this one to be a very enjoyable read. This isn't a standalone book so the previous one does need to be read first. I will be looking for more books from this author.
I was so looking forward to what was going to happen next and there were parts of Book 2 that I liked but so much fell flat for me. I found the foundation of the story an "almost." What I mean by that was it was almost what I wanted it to be but fell short of my expectations.
I understand Mossimo's need to protect Laura and it does become a little smother some at times, but I get it. She has survived an attempt on her life and he wants her safe. With an unplanned baby on the way and a wedding, the stress is through the roof.
When Mossimo's worst fears come true and Laura is taken, the book sort of transitions to a different kind of story. Laura battles with her feelings towards her capture, all the while waiting for rescue.
For me, I found the most of romance (and it is very little) happening between Laura and her capture. I found she and Mossimo were flat and just blah. But for me and the biggest issue was, the writing is so choppy. I found the story almost robotic. I do not know if it was lost in the translation or what. I just found it didn't have a cadence to it and it made it hard to keep pushing through.
Second book in trilogy & just wow!
This book does not hold back on how much the main characters are into each other possessively.
I found the translation lost a bit.
Storyline is a bit choppy and I felt it needed more depth, but now I am curious to know how this will end in the final book.
This Day picks up shortly after 365 Days ends, with Massimo and Laura dealing with the aftermath of an attempt on her life. Don Massimo struggles to allow Laura to be her own person as he is used to keeping control of everyone and everything in his world. Unfortunately, Laura doesn't take kindly to being bossed around. However, she loves Massimo so much that she has decided to try to allow him to care for her. Especially since they have a baby on the way. To add to the stress of an unplanned pregnancy and trying not to get killed by Massimo's rivals, Laura is also planning a wedding.
After a whirlwind wedding, and a honeymoon that comes to an abrupt end, Laura has to face the harsh realities of being a Mafia boss's wife. Along with managing those realities, there are also marital hiccups for Laura and Massimo to face that cause several emotional misunderstandings. Then, just as Laura has begun to settle into her life as Massimo's wife, she is kidnapped by a hitman named Nacho, who is also the son of Massimo's enemy. At first Laura is terrified, but the more time she spends with the handsome hitman, she begins to realize that despite his reputation for being one of the most dangerous Spanish hitmen, he is actually kind. As Laura lowers her guard, she soon starts to see Nacho as a friend, and before long confusing feelings stir within her, and she worries she may be attracted to him. Laura fights to stay faithful to Massimo and maintain her hope that he will rescue her and their unborn child. Eventually, Massimo and his enforcers come to Laura's rescue, but when tragedy strikes, it may be too late.
My overall thoughts on this book are that it had a decent plot, but there were things that happened that made me cringe. This book had so much potential to be a five-star read, but I just feel as though there were too many moments in it that had it not been a Netgalley copy, would have made me stop reading it. The book is supposed to be romance, but honestly there is not much I found romantic about the moments between Massimo and Laura. I know Laura likes rough sexual activity, but Massimo is borderline abusive to me, and I don't like that. Because of the cliffhanger ending of this book, I plan to read the third, but I really hope the toxic masculinity in the first two books isn't as rampant in the third.
Likes:
-The plot of Massimo's enemies attempting to kill Laura made for an intriguing read. It's why I kept reading.
-I actually found Nacho much more likable than Massimo
Dislikes:
-There is SO MUCH toxic masculinity in this book. There were FAR too many men doing things that overstepped boundaries and it was unacceptable. (i.e. embracing a MARRIED pregnant woman around her waist IN HER BED without asking-and I don't mean a hug).
-Men BRUTALLY attacking women and getting away with it
-Why does Laura STILL refer to Massimo, her husband as "The Man in Black" ?
-Why does Laura STILL refer to Massimo's accent as BRITISH? He's ITALIAN.
-Massimo is physically abusive (particularly in Chapter eleven), under the guise of being protective. He choked Laura so badly that her feet left the ground. That is NOT OKAY.
I was interested to see where this story went after book one. There was a lot of hype and I haven’t heard the the best things about the original version. The read was “ok” for me. There was a lot of words but not a lot of plot. I’m happy I did read this one and will read the third. I have to see this read through.
2/5 stars
I really wanted to read this sequel to see how the story continues after the first book and movie, however I was very disappointed. The story just jumped in right where the first one left off except it went straight to bed. My biggest disappointment was the lack of character growth for Laura and that the steamy scenes were not only lacking chemistry, but very repetitive almost to the sentences. I wanted so much more for this story and Laura and Massimo's relationship, but instead I get hints of a love triangle coming at the end! I did love seeing more of Olga and the glimpses of Massimo's family. Overall, I hoped the story would get better and build on the first story, but instead it had misunderstandings, possible cheating, lack of character growth, grown adults trying to excuse their horrible behavior and missing chemistry with sex scenes in a romance story. I think this one missed it's second chance and I'm going to pass on the next book.
I did have some high hopes for this book. But unfortunately ,it fell a little too short for me . I really don't like to give a bad rating but I wasn't very pleased with the writing in this one. I'm sorry and am very thankful for the chance to read and review this one.
What a book. What a roller coaster of emotions. There was a part that I was like what the what Massimo. There was also a part that I was also what the what Laura. Let me just say that this book will have you hooked from start to finish. That ending left me screaming needing an answer. Now I have to wait to find out what happens. What did Massimo decide or does he decide?!?! Now I want to scream again!!
After the ending on 365 Days – I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tackle the next book in the series. Throwing all of my hesitation out the window, I decided to give This Day a chance. Where will we find Laura when joining this journey?
In This Day, readers are taken immediately to the point they were left ‘hanging’ with 365. Laura and Massimo are still in a tug of war between their personalities and their romance. Danger is still lurking, but Massimo is determined to keep Laura in his life at all costs.
This book throws Laura into a world of mobsters, ex-lovers, and the fight to remain in Massimo’s world. It is a roller coaster of emotion. Often times leaving me hating some of the characters but wondering what chaos would follow in Laura’s wake. There were moments that I was left wondering what idiotic thing Laura would try next, but then other times I was dying to know what Massimo had up his sleeve to tame the chaos that follows in Laura’s footsteps.
One thing is certain – I don’t know where I stand with Massimo and Laura. One minute I am craving more and then next I am shaking my head. Then I made it to the ending. Again…..another cliffhanger that leaves me saying ‘Well?? What’s next’. Do I read the next installment? Do I follow Laura and Massimo to the end? *Sigh* Only time will tell. I am thoroughly irritated by some of the antics in this book, but I still want to know what happens next!!!
Unfortunately this was a major miss for me. I think the main problem, as I've seen in other Netgalley reviews is the translation. Maybe things were missed or weren't translated correctly for the English speaking audience.
While I would normally try to look past this, it was hard to due to not being able to fully get into the story with the lack of translation fully working.
This is the continuation from the first book about Laura and The Man in Black continuing their lust full and sexual activity at their home while Olga falls for his brother. Laura and Massimo get closer to each other. I do enjoy how Laura says they are having a girl, and Massimo insists they are having a boy. Massimo needs anger management. Laura needs to take security more seriously than she does.
***3.5 Stars***
I saw a lot of reviews that this was not a great book to dive into. I almost just left on my TBR because I was not sure if I would finish the book. But I did make it through book one and I loved the story line with a 5 star review. The translation was a bit wonky between both books, but I was able to get through to them.
The reason This Day got a lower review from me is because there was some parts that made me felt like we were stuck on an issue or a tantrum. There was a lot of misunderstandings and Laura would easily run. Massimo does not change, but I feel he is still loves Laura with the only way he knows how.
Not much was said about the cliff hanger we had with book one. The subject was touched on but it was skimmed through pretty fast. The only part that had me on the edge was Massimo's last words that leave us with another cliff hanger for book three.
This Day kept me reading from the beginning to the end. I just wished the story line was a little more full circle instead of some gaps of unknowns.
I did not enjoy this story at all. I would give it a lower rating if I could. None of the characters were likeable.
