I love this book! It was suspenseful and topical, and kept my on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put this book down and read it all in one night.

This book was so good, it finally got me out of my reading slump. The family dynamic of the Scarborough’s was wild to read about. With a young internet celebrity missing, the family does everything they can to find her. There’s so many secrets woven into this book, it had me flipping pages like crazy! Can we all agree that Jen is nuts?
This was a solid 4.5/5 only because this version had some typos and a name hadn’t been changed in one chapter. But overall a great read!!!

When Jennifer gets up one morning she discovers her daughter Chloe Cates is missing. The star of a Mommy and me style blog since she was 4, has Chloe left or has she been taken? The truth is a whole lot more complicated….

This was a wild ride from start to finish. We get chunks of back story all the way back to Jennifer’s own childhood. Then we have the present tense. Jennifer is a narcissist. No two ways about it. But what about her husband Jackson and their son JJ? What secrets are they hiding? Even the investigating police officer seems to have something to hide…..

It’s a well written book that’s paced really well and keeps you guessing all the way through. I did enjoy the misdirection scattered throughout and felt the author did a good job with the characters, slowly turning us against pretty much all of them. I think this book raises some interesting issues about the ‘stars’ of this kind of blog and consent.

Amazing! This is the kind of book I adore. I loved the writing style of this story and the different narrators throughout. Suspenseful and will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. I will definitely be seeking out more from this author after reading this book because it is fantastic! Whoa. If the cover and title weren’t gripping enough, the absolutely insane world & dysfunction that this book lives in are nothing short of horrifyingly thrilling. When popular social media star “Chloe Cates” disappears, detectives and family are clamoring to find why.. how? And who? With an alternating perspective of the detective, parents, sibling and diary entries from Chloe this book leads you on a wild ride, and I barely got up to even eat because I just wanted to know what was next. This author is now definitely on my radar. Absolute must buy for my thriller lovers.

I absolutely loved this one!! it was such a unique persona to read from. I tend to stray away from blogger/influencer stories since they’re usually stereotypical, but this one was just golden.

A terrific mystery telling the story of a young celebrity’s disappearance told from versions POVs, showing the ruthlessness of her mother and the entire industry.

▪️My thoughts: whew. This one sure was a wild ride. It was my first read of October and it was the perfect pick to begin my “spooky season.” It was thrilling, and the perfect amount of mystery and “whodunit.” I underestimated this book when I first started it - I’m not sure why, because it really did have me wrapped from the first page. There were so many different POV’s, and I didn’t even know who to believe or who I was even rooting for the entire time. Oh. Gore level, perfect amount. Like, some scenes were pretty graphic and gross, but nothing I couldn’t handle.
▪️Summary: Chloe Cates is famous, thanks to her mothers blog. But… she doesn’t want to be. This blog has been the core of her entire life since she was 4 years old and she’s done. She tries to make this apparent to her overbearing mother… but she doesn’t listen. One day the family wakes up and Chloe is missing. Was Chloe telling her mother that she didn’t want to participate in the blog anymore grounds for foul play from her own mother? What other secrets are being kept?

▪️If you’re looking for the perfect October read- this one is it. It gives off the perfect freaky, eery vibe. This family is a hot ass mess. There are so many back stories and secrets, it had my attention the entire time. 1000% recommend.

Chloe Cates Is Missing is a decent thriller. I enjoyed the various POVs and having some of the chapters being excerpts from Abby's journal definitely added to the story. The pacing of the book was good and kept me wanting to continue reading. However, I found a lot of the twists to be unbelievable, which detracted from my overall liking of this book. More than once, I found myself thinking "that would never happen." My overall feeling for Chloe Cates is Missing is that it is a *fine* thriller.

What a fun ride this propulsive thriller was! Chock full of unlikeable characters, Chloe Cates is Missing was a fast-paced, enjoyable ride through a missing child case, told from the perspective of a police detective and the absolutely terrible mother of the missing child. There were also chapters from the perspective of Chloe and her father, but the mostly the first two.
Don’t go into this looking for anything groundbreaking, but if you want a dependable, solid mystery/thriller, you’ve found it. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.

This book is basically Dance Moms meets Gone Girl. It's told from multiple first-person POVs, including both parents and Emelina, the lead detective investigating the case. Interspersed between these chapters are journal entries written by Chloe. As wacky as it sounds, the author hit it out of the park! I was expecting a good thriller, but I did not expect the author's debut novel to be this good. I could not put this book down. I had to keep reading to find out what happened next. Also, the twists are great. The book kept me guessing until the last page, and I couldn't predict when the book ended up. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of thrillers in general, you won't regret checking out this book when it comes out in January!

Chloe Cates is Missing was an interesting novel. It was a quick read. Although it focused predominantly on the crime at hand, it also focused quite a bit on character development, providing incredible back story. There was a twist; although thing seem open and shut, this book will keep you on your toes. I also liked how McHugh implemented in a broad range of personalities in her novel; it helped this reader zone in on family dynamics and kept her quite engaged.

The constantly fluctuating perspectives brought variation to the narrative, which was a welcome add. However, there were times when the narrative would shift from past to present (and vice versa) with little warning, which made it a bit difficult to stay on path.

Overall, it was an interesting story to read and it went by in a flash. It wasn’t one of my favorites, but I think it could be a fantastic read for someone diving into the genre for the first time.

This book is a nail biter and a classic “who done it?” that keeps you guessing through out. It’s told from multiple points of view including Jennifer, Emilina, and pages from Chloe’s lost diary, I enjoyed seeing the different perspectives and you know the author is good when sometimes you find yourselves feel sympathetic towards the un lovable characters. All in all it kept me guessing and fairly intrigued that I kept going back to it and I honestly didn’t have it figured out until the reveal at the end. But that’s where it looses points for me. The end seemed very rushed where everything gets wrapped up in the final few paragraphs where really I think it needed an extra chapter or two or an epilogue to sort it out more. It left me hanging, though I know the author meant for this it was a bit depressing for me.
The bright spots were definitely the journal entries that helped tie everything together and just seeing how close to real life this is with influencers and the internet fame life. A book that anyone reading can find something to relate to in these days.

Chloe Cates is Missing has all the ingredients for a perfect thriller: dysfunctional family; a death; an abduction; secrets from the past and an alarming focus on social media and the extent to which it influences our lives. From start to finish it was a book I couldn’t put down, and the ending was delightfully ambiguous in a way that will torment readers long after the story ends.
The book focuses on Chloe Cates, the teen sensation of an internet blog. Thirteen year old Abby Scarborough has known no life other than a life played out on screen. Her every move is crafted and filtered, and the whole family depend on the revenue the blog brings in. When she was a child Abby complied with her mother’s demands, but as she matures she becomes increasingly reluctant to have her key life moments played out for the entertainment of others.
One seemingly normal weekend morning, the Scarborough family have their lives turned upside down when they realise Abby is missing. Detectives are called in and, conscious of this girl’s online presence, they take this threat seriously. Detective Emelina Stone is heading up the investigation, but she soon realises she has a closer link to the family than she’s comfortable with.
The secret Emelina is keeping had me on tenterhooks, and I was desperate to see how it would be relevant. This secret isn’t given up easily, but it is VERY relevant to the events in the present.
As the investigation progresses, a body is found. Suddenly, there seems to be a link between the disappearance of Abby and the murder of this missing girl. Trying to work out exactly what had happened drove me crazy, but I loved reading the way this unfolded in front of me.
Without giving away important details, this was such a clever thriller. You could never be sure who was hiding what, and though my reading of the ending may not be accurate I like to think that the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree on this. Nobody comes out of it well, but it made for such an entertaining read.

Chloe, real name, Abigail Scarborough, is a teenage internet sensation “CeCe Spectacular” developed by her mother, Jennifer. Jennifer began with a family blog when her children were small and sky-rocked her daughter into social media fame. But, one day Chloe goes missing. The dark side of fame is revealed through cracks in the family as detective Emilina races against time to find the truth about the missing girl. Not only can Emilina not get a single straight answer from Chloe’s parents, but there’s a possibility that this teenage disappearance is related to another young girl that went missing recently. McHugh takes readers on a journey inside the minds of Chloe’s dysfunctional parents, her sad older brother JJ and deep within Emilina’s own past that is linked to the Scarborough family. I loved the twists and turns and was eager to discover what really happened to Chloe. I think that the author does an exceptional job of allowing readers to discover the chaos and sacrifice that reality-internet stars face on a daily basis. While it made for a very entertaining read, it also made me thankful to raise my own very normal and by comparison, boring, family!

Chloe Cates Is Missing, has easily become my favorite book of the year. I absolutely loved this story! Mandy McHugh, knocked this one out of the park! This book has made for Netflix, written all over it.

Told from multiple points of view, you will easily become consumed with this book.

Chloe Cates is 13 years old and a YouTube Starlet. She records a series called " CC and Me" . Now Chloe is missing. Secrets begin to surface, and turbulence begins to stir. Where is Chloe?

Jennifer, the typical "momager" needs to find Chloe. She has worked to hard to build Chloe into what she is today. Where else to turn but social media? I mean it made Chloe a star right? But social media isnt all its cracked up to be and there is a lot of rumors circulating. Soon, the search for Chloe is just as popular as Chloe's YouTube series. This grabs the attention of Detective Stone but much to her surprise Detective Stone has a connection to the case.

Will you be able to figure out what happened to Chloe? You are going to have to pick up your copy on January 18, 2022 to find out!

I really liked the different perspectives of chloes friends and family, and how they formed pieces of the story that helped fit together in the puzzle. This was definitely the type of suspense I enjoy.

This is definitely a contemporary book for fans of pop culture. The title character Chloe Cates (real name Abigail), is an internet superstar. Think JoJo Siwa. But there's a flip of the perceived stereotype - Abigail doesn't want to be a famous influencer, it's her mum pushing her into it! Think Dance mums. And then add a murderous twist.

From the beginning, I was hooked. I loved all the references to pop culture, making it a very modern narrative. It presents the dark side of social media, exploring what can happen when people are motivated by likes, views and hits.

The book is written from multiple perspectives, but isn't confusing at all as each character is distinctive, so you never question whose perspective you're reading from.

There was a line in the book that stood out for me, though.

"...but I flashed to what went down at the Ariana Grande concert in London. I thought I'd been shot and everyone was just staring at me."

Immediately, I thought of the horrific bombing after the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. It felt insensitive to me. I was confused and needed to know if the author was referring to Manchester or another event I didn't know about. I reached out to the author for clarification, and they were kind enough to reply to me, explaining what they meant.

"That's what I had intended for her to be alluding to but not so much as in accuracy of the bombing but as a way for her to try formulate her reaction to the moment, if that makes sense."

So, if you're like me and you are search onlinine with unease after reading that line, here's your answer from the author herself. I really enjoyed the book but felt that could have been left out and it wouldn't have changed anything at all. For this reason, I felt compelled to knock off a star.

But this doesn't take away from the fact it is a well written, entertaining young adult novel!

What an unbelievably amazing book!!!! The twists and turns, the depths of what is right and wrong and the emotional waves you ride! Ah! Absolutely loved this one!!!

Chloe Cates is a famous 13 year old girl due to her mom being obsessed with putting her on her blog and making sure she can do all she can to make this girl as big as possible. But at what costs?! Before a big shoot she goes to wake her up in the morning but she’s not there. Her window is open her bed is tossed and Chloe is missing. You are taken for a ride from different perspectives. Jennifer, the mom who has a nasty streak in her and a dark past. Jackson, her husband who has been going along with his wife’s crazy ideas and has he had enough? And Emilina the detective for missing children who has a past with Jennifer and that is the last person she ever wanted to see again.

All the secrets woven in are executed beautifully. The pain you feel for Chloe l, the angst you feel between Jennifer and Emilina, the power of guilt and what the right thing to do is. I recommend this book to all who want to dive into a great mystery thrill!
