The book is relatable to me because I sometimes just get up feeling grumpy. This book, in my opinion, is fantastic. This short story is written in simple language so that even small children can follow it. In addition, the lovely illustrations make reading aloud a joy.

I have taken a recent interest in children's books because of my 4yr old son who is an emerging bookworm! I have reviewed a few children's books for The Daily Star, a newspaper based in Dhaka. My reviews can be found on my Instagram @booksnher and the daily star books official website.
I am so glad I came across this book! The illustrations are adorable. And the message is simple but profound: that no matter how much of a bad day we are having, we should try our hardest to not project our frustrations onto others, especially if they wish us well. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and I found myself going back to look at them, I love the badgers grumpy little expressions! I will add the review with a photograph on my Instagram for my followers.
Cant wait to read this book to my son during naptime tomorrow!

I really love the message of this book, which is to be mindful of how your mood can effect others! The illustrations are very good, and, in the end, Badger learns a valuable lesson. Definitely a book worth keeping around for the occasional reminder!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy!

This is a very simple, straightforward tale that could be useful to help very young readers begin to identify emotions and how they affect both us and others. Badger wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and in his zeal to share his bad mood with all of the other residents of his forest he succeeds better than he imagined. Can he find a way to fix the problem he created?
The plot and language are accessible for pre-K students and they will enjoy seeing and identifying the variety of animals in the story. The illustrations are expressive and will help the kids engage with the action. This would work equally well for a circle time, small group, or individual read and would be a great addition to preschool and elementary classroom and school libraries.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

The Bad Mood is an exemplary children's book detailing how bad moods are contagious and in particular being willing to apologize. Petz portrays this concept in a wonderful way and is readable by elementary standards.

Having a bad mood isn’t something new, right? We get irritated and take it on others for no reason. But once we feel better, the guilt of our behavior starts to make us feel bad (or maybe not).
Badger does the same when he wakes up in a bad mood. He feels sad that his friends are rude to him and realizes that his past actions were to blame. The problem is solved by apologizing to them and having a bad mood party.
The concept is simple and well-executed. However, a bad mood doesn’t just slip off. Since the book is aimed at kids, it would have been nice to see how Badger got out of his bad mood. Still, elders can help kids understand and maybe even try to manage their bad moods better.
The illustrations are soft, warm, and cute. The text could have been bigger to make it easy on the eyes.
Thank you, NetGalley and NorthSouthBooks, for the ARC.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great book. I think children will be able to really relate to it. And the pictures are really cute!

Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books for the chance to read The Bad Mood.
Is it weird that I love books that teach kids about emotions? Badger is in a bad mood and it’s contagious! This wonderfully illustrated book takes the reader along on Badger’s bad day, showing that our actions and moods can affect others.
Overall, my 5 year old and I enjoyed the book, but I do wish the turn around in Badger’s mood and the resolution were a little more flushed out. It did provide us with a great opportunity to discuss when we, or someone else, is in a bad mood and how to appropriately handle it.

A big thank you to NetGalley and North South Books for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. I enjoyed this book. I found it cute, quick and everybody is in a bad mood once in a while. I do believe that a bad mood can be passed around. Very cute graphics, and in the end he apologizes. Nice touch 4 stars

We all have a bad mood from time to time. This quick story follows Badger as he wakes up in a bad mood and decides he must let all his friends know about it. By the time his grumpiness has worked its way out of his system, all his friends are in a bad mood and want nothing to do with him!
While the ending does seem abrupt and a little too easy, it still makes sense. For the audience, it works. The message here is a good one and not too difficult to understand. The illustrations are quite cute, too.
Overall, this is a nice little book about the way a bad mood can ruin our day, as well as everyone else's. But only if we let it.

🎨Delightful artwork & good life lesson😀
The illustrations of the woodland creatures are so cute, even down to the badger's grumpy face! It's the cover that drew me to this book and then the message took it to the winner's circle. And the message that bad moods are contagious and can push friends and family away is relevant to children AND the adults in their lives! I do think the ending was a little abrupt but altogether a lovely little storybook.
Thanks to NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

I had the opportunity to read this book through Netgalley, and it was the cutest! What caught my attention was the drawings, which I found super cute. I don't read children books often but, as a child in the heart, I found it very nice to take five minutes of my time to read this one. Also, this is the kind of book you read as an adult and realise that the situation depicted in it, the bad mood being passed over the people you meet along the day, is very much true in the adult world.
I think it will be the perfect book for children who love animals, pretty illustrations, and other children books such as Winnie the Pooh or Franklin the Turtle.

A fun little book about how your mood can affect the moods of the people around you. It gets the point across without being heavy handed, so most kids will really enjoy the book. Badger is in a bad mood and decides that everyone needs to know it...and then when his mood lifts he just doesn't understand *why* all of his friends are now so grumpy! Will throwing them a party help?

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a good story, dealing with anger. There's some part of the story my child, even myself resonated deeply with. "What was the point of being in a bad mood if nobody noticed?" So badger made sure all the animals around him knew he was in a bad mood by taking it out on his friends. When they retaliated out of hurt, he got a taste of his own medicine. Luckily he was able to resolve things by apologizing.
This book lead to some discussion about how to act when you are in a bad mood in my household.

Read this adorable book with my 3 year old son. We had a great time reading about this grumpy badger, how his bad mood rubbed off on his friends, and how once he realized this, he had to turn things around. I felt this book was also very relatable. The illustrations were fantastic and really helped my toddler visualize, and moreso, understand the characters’ moods. I do wish however that the ending went a little more in depth in regards to how the badger worked to turn everyone’s mood back around. It felt like the book ended a bit abruptly. Overall, I found this to be very enjoyable!

Wonderful illustrations and fun little story about a Badger in a bad mood who spreads his mood to his friends. Then he has to figure out how to solve the problem he's created. Great for little ones!

Thank you NetGalley for this early copy of The Bad Mood. I enjoyed this book, and I felt that it gave a good lesson of kids understand how their moods and how they treat others will affect others. I think this would be a great object lesson book in a classroom.

What a wonderful book this is! A simple story with a fabulous message.
Badger has woken up in a really bad mood. (I so empathise with him. Mornings can be tough!) As he goes along his day, he rebuffs all friends who attempt to chat with him. While his mood improves as the day progresses, he realises that his friends are now in a grumpy mood, all thanks to him.
The story is written in simple prose and fairly easy vocabulary. Early readers should be able to handle the book independently as well. There are many expressive dialogues so this will be a treat for read-alouds. I loved the illustrations too. They are so vibrant! The animals are drawn in such an expressive manner that you can gauge their mood just by looking at them.
The only minor complaint I have is that the dissolution of Badger’s bad mood happens within the span of a sentence. It seemed too abrupt and kids wouldn’t really realise how there was a sudden turnaround in his feelings. This is where discussion with an adult would help. After all, we understand mood swings better than kids do and need to assist them on how to handle bad moods as a realistic and regular part of life.
I have a feeling this book is going to be useful for adults too, so don’t forget to read this along with your kiddos. It has a lesson that all of us need to remember. You might just save yourself (and others) from having a bad day. ;)
Heartily recommended for families, schools and libraries.
4.5 stars from me.
Thank you to NorthSouth Books Inc. and NetGalley for the ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a short children’s book all about a Badger who was in a bad mood and took it out on his friends— thus they all ended up in a bad mood.
I liked the message this provided— that just because you’re in a bad mood, doesn’t mean you have the right to take it out on your friends or anyone really. It was nice to see Badger apologize by the end. I do wish it had been a tad longer so that kids could really see the forgiveness Badger ended up with but overall, this was cute! The art was super adorable!
3/5⭐️

I like the overall story because of the message that it gives, one person's bad mood shouldn't be passed onto everyone and give them a bad day. This story has spread the message quite well and it would be a great way to teach children that there's no shame in saying you're sorry after you know you were wrong.
