I had a great time reading this book. Each story was exciting and took this little cat on plenty of adventures. While each story is moving along kids can learn a good lesson or two as well. Kids will have a lot of fun reading this colorful book.
This was a fun book to read. Boris has many adventures and it shows him in comic book form.
NorthSouth Books and Net Galley let me read this book for review (thank you). It has been published so you can get a copy now.
Boris is friendly with everyone. He got angry at the birds eating his garden seed, so he dressed up as a scarecrow and scared the birds off. The only problem was that he scared his guest that was coming to visit, too.
There is great variety of short stories in the book and I enjoyed them all. I bet your children will as well.
Princess Fuzzypants here: I do enjoy reading and reviewing children’s stories that have kitties as the lead character. Boris is quite a cat. Not only is he a ginger tabby, like me, he has lots of friends and gets involved in all sorts of things. He is quite a busy cat.
His stories are told in very short anecdotes with lots of adorable pictures. I think this would be an excellent book for parents who are transitioning their children to reading books by themselves. It would also be a good bedtime book as each segment is short and can be tailored to the situation. Four purrs and two paws up.
Boris is the little adventurer and has a lot of things happen to him and his animal friends. With brief stories told in comic strip fashion, my daughter enjoyed it very much. A perfect book for her since she loves animals.
Thank you Netgalley and NorthSouth Books for the opportunity to read this book.
A six-paneled comic strip that delight me so much. Told in an easy-to-read way, for both adults and kids, this book doesn't feel old. Written by Austrian author/illustration for quite so long ago, the story still can talk to us. I really enjoyed reading this book.
My daughter and I really loved this children's book, which has lovely comic strip style illustrations, and simple, easy to read text. There are lots of little stories in the book, each with a certain amount of illustrations. Each story is about Boris and the adventures he has with his friends, and with objects that he finds. The book is quite funny and it is heart-warming and cute. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is such a great read! It has the graphic novel appeal, but without all the busyness you can sometimes see in that genre. The images were appealing and the little stories are a delight.
Well, this was a huge disappointment. Over half of the book is missing, so I only got a teeny glimpse of what would have been a thoroughly enjoyable book about a fun and resourceful cat and all his friends and their adventures. I am deeply disappointed in this turn of events. If I were to rate this simply on the teeny amount of content I received, it would clearly be 1 star or less, but because I was quite simply charmed by the content I DID get, I will conditionally give this 4 stars [but it is very reluctantly]. What a huge disappointment.
Thank you to NetGalley, Erwin Moser, Alastair Beacon [Translator] and NorthSouth Books for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Subtitled, "The Little Cat with Big Ideas." this book was well-illustrated and in color, and the stories I read were amusing, but why it was issued in a Kindle format is utterly beyond me. I've said it repeatedly: unless your text is plain vanilla (with not even dropcaps!), then nine times out of ten, or worse, Amazon's crappy Kindle coversion process will turn your book into kindling - especially if it has images. This one was totally mangled with text and images out of place and mismatched. In other formats the book was considerably better, but even then there was a problem.
The book had almost seventy stories and they're collected into groups by the four seasons, but my copy had only ten stories from 'the spring collection'. The rest of the stories were missing even though they were listed in the content list. And there was no way to tap from the content list to any of the stories, nor was there any way to get back to the contents by, say, tapping on the story title, so this was a serious problem. One reason I'm quitting reviewing books at the end of this year is because of this shabby treatment of reviewers by publishers and Net Galley. I don't expect to get a nice pristine print copy to review by any means, but I do expect to be treated decently, and reviewers deserve better than this.
Since this was an ARC, I checked back on the Net Galley website to see if I'd been sent a sample only, and there was nothing there to indicate any such thing, so I can only assume something got monumentally cocked-up along the way. Anyway this review is of only those ten stories, all of which are about animals and Boris's interaction with them. This is the kind of story where nearly all of the animals walk around on two legs and are all the same size, regardless of species! There are no speech balloons, just descriptive text and equally descriptive and amusing imagery.
That said, the stories were amusing to me. They were inventive in a Heath Robinson sort of a way, and were in fact reminiscent of the Mr Bean TV show, so if you've seen that and enjoyed it, you may well find this amusing. I loved the absurdist and off-the-wall humor. These were wacky enough to make me chuckle, so on that basis, and keeping in mind that I was able to read barely more than 10% of this book, I commend it as a worthy read.
Boris the Cat is an illustrated collection of short little stories (6 pictures each) by Austrian author Erwin Moser. These are cute and quick reads each and perfect for children with short attention spans. Despite only having 6 pages to each story, Moser still manages to tell a tale with each!
A very sweet book with gorgeous pictures. The book contains many short stories that are perfect for a young child’s attention span. My grandson, who is 5, enjoyed that we could read just a little story at a time and have endless conversations about the pictures. Thank you to NetGalley for the ebook version of the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a charming cartoon-like picture book that looks perfect for a toddler. The cover engages readers right away with Boris traveling in the bathtub. The included tales follow the seasons. They have engaging illustrations and stories that are simple and short, perfect for a little one’s attention span.
A note explains that these stories are newly released in English. I am glad that they were.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Thank you NetGalley and NorthSouth Books, Inc. for a copy of "Boris the Cat - The Little Cat with Big Ideas".
This book has cute illustrations and an appealing format. Boris is a fun character who has some grand adventures. He meets some wonderful characters along the way. Owl helps him find a new house. Frog uses a baby carriage as a boat. When flowers fall off his wagon, his friend wildcat thought it was a carpet of flowers to welcome him. Hedgehog builds a helicopter. Seagull uses an umbrella as a canopy over nest. When Boris goes camping with Hedgehog wind grabs their tent and they end up flying back to Holly's house. Sophie the squirrel give Boris a gift of a goldfish. Thinking that the fish needed more space to swim, Boris takes it to the river and the goldfish swims away. Alex the frog promises to look after the goldfish. Holly has bought a new table and Boris helped her take it home. When they got caught in a storm they use it as shelter. Then they have fun using it as a slide. They follow up with a snack.
Boris has adventures in all four seasons - opening the conversation to discussing the seasons. It's a great book to read aloud and a good first reader for beginning readers.
Boris the Cat is a cute collection fo stories for children. They are easy to read and the pictures are delightful. Such a fun story for young children!
My 3 year old loves cats so she was a big fan of this book! I really enjoyed the story and illustrations and will be on the lookout for more books- I hope this is a series!
(I read the arc in exchange of a review)
This book is a very well illustrated compilation of small stories about a cat and his friends finding the positive in every situation.
This is a perfect book for small children, or even bigger ones who want to learn how to read.
I think this is very cute and deserve a five stars review :)
A big thank you to NetGalley and North South Books for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I actually believe that this is a sample. I did not get all the stories listed. This is a children's book. This is a cute "comic" like book in short clips or cartoon fashion. Boris is ok but he is not really an ideas guy-he is a follower. I read this in german long long ago, so it is nice that it is now translated. I think the graphics make the stories easier for kids to understand. 4 stars. This wouldn't be my first choice but I think many kids will enjoy the short clips.
This is a sweet and funny bedtime story book for early readers. Boris the cat has so many exciting adventures, and he is kind, energetic, and extremely cute! The stories are simple, and the illustrations are colorful.
Wow! What fun little stories for beginning readers! My 6 year old daughter loved them! Wonderful illustrations and engaging adventures with Boris and his friends!
Boris the Cat- The Little Cat with Big Ideas By: Erwin Moser is about Boris who is a cat. Each section is a comic strip featuring Boris in a new situation with friends and other side characters. This was enjoyable and I think young kids would like this. The artstyle was also cute.
