Wow! This is an incredible cookbook. I liked the first sentence~Comfort Food that is Healthy! There are 100+ Recipes that the authors, both dietitians made to cater to different eating plans. I do not specifically follow any one way of eating, but love to try different recipes. One thing I especially loved is that the meals can be easily changed to be gluten-free, or Vegan by swapping a different ingredient. There are also icons on each recipe saying if it’s Grain-Free, Dairy-Free, Nut-Free and Several other Descriptions. These are easy to see, so it is very helpful. Especially, with the holidays, and different members of my family have different dietary needs, this is just a fantastic. My father is diabetic, my brother is a vegetarian, my niece has a severe nut allergy. I am used to cooking from scratch, and love to add new foods to try. I have heard of all the pantry stables except Coconut Aminos which is a healthier alternative to Soy Sauce using lower salt. I am sure I can easily get this at our local health food store.
So, the absolutely most important thing is these recipes look appealing and are a little different then recipe I have seen. I would love to cook just about every recipe in this book. If you have some cooking experience, you will see the recipes are fairly simple to make and quick, too. Even if you are a novice, you will realize with a bit of practice you can make these recipes. This is so important when you like to cook healthy and delicious food, but need to have something ready nighly. The photographs of the recipes are appealing, so much so you will get hungry looking at the beautiful photos. This does enhance the quality of the book.
The recipes are broken down into categories. I started with the breakfast items and loved the recipe for *Granola. I love homemade granola and lost a recipe I used. This one sounds even better and it is a great stable to have on hand. Next, I really want to make the *Florentine Freezer Breakfast Sandwiches. The best part is you can make a dozen of these and freeze them, so that makes it super easy to have a delicious breakfast sandwich. I will definitely make these.
The salads look amazing. I chose *Mexican Street Corn-Style Salad, *Cilantro Line Slaw and *Baked Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle-Lime Aioli as my favorites to try. There were chicken and beef recipes that I will make as well. Some use an instant-pot, slow cooker, or Sheet Pans for Ease to have your meal ready.
I cook mostly for my parents, both in their 80’s, but both enjoy healthy recipes I make. I also cook for the Holidays. I make mushroom sauces frequently, so was excited to see *Smothered Pork Chops w/Mushroom Sauce. It will be a great addition to my cooking. Their were several Meatless Entries, my favorite to try *Curried Lentil Stew w/Sweet Potatoes and Cauliflower. My brother is coming for Thanksgiving and I know he really likes Lentils. I think it will be popular for the whole family and can’t wait to get cooking. *The Rainbow Quinoa Bowls w/Peanut Dressing are another meal that I would like to have on hand for myself at my home.
So, I highly recommend this cookbook. It is refreshing to see recipes that are a little different then the same recipes over and over. It makes cooking fun and healthy and you can easily put these dinners together for 1 person, a family, or to entertain larger groups.
Thank you NetGalley, Jessica Beacom, Stacie Hassing, and Simon Element, a division of Simon and Schuster Publishing for an ARC of this Wonderful Cookbook.
Thank you so so much to Simon Element and NetGalley for this advanced copy!
I've been following the Read Food Dietitians via social media and on their blog for years. I am an avid Whole-30 eater and mostly GF and their recipes are so attainable and easy to use. I am never disappointed. I can't wait to cook a lot of these recipes and share with friends. The four week meal plan is also fantastic!
Recipe highlights from this book (so far):
- florentine freezer breakfast sandwiches
- smoked salmon frittata with goat cheese
- mexican street corn-style salad
- ranch roasted potatoes
- white chicken chili with white beans
- Irish beef stew
- weeknight salmon cakes with lemon-dill aioli
- oven roasted tomato soup
There are some great recipes here, but for some reason, the authors did not appeal to me. I tend to avoid food blogger's turned writers or, even worse, food "influencers." Most of the time, they're not doing anything different and usually end of with recipes that might photograph well but taste like shit.
Here, the recipes I tried were mostly pretty good. I learned some new techniques for managing salt and carb consumption, so I count that as a win. This isn't one I'd buy in print, though.
There are several recipes in this cookbook that I am interested in trying. There are several recipes within each section that I could imagine making without too much difficulty. This is an interesting cookbook because of the authors and their stories about the food that they are suggesting. I enjoyed the overall set-up for the cookbook. I loved the authors’ alternatives for recipes to make them vegan or grain-free. I think these sorts of tips are very handy. I also enjoyed the tips on ways to utilize the Instant Pot cooker or slow cooker for several of the recipes.
I think my only issue, and this may be simply an unfinished eARC issue, is with the photos. I loved them. I thought they were lovely and clean, with great attention to the food. My issue is with the limited space for photos, why were some dishes shown more than once and others not at all. As I said, this may simply the result of this being an early copy of the book and will be changed later. I definitely want lots of photos in a cookbook with labels and easy to know which photo belongs to which dish easily. I also want as many different dishes to be shown as possible. This is why I am questioning the decision to post some dishes several times and others not at all. I hope that this feedback is helpful for the final version.
Overall, I definitely recommend this for everyone interested in creating beautiful dishes with flavorful meals at home. Can’t wait to start trying them myself!

While the authors are both dietitians they are also both food lovers, as is evident from this book. Being realistic, they know that all food can be incorporated into a healthy diet and they show you just what that means. Their goal isn’t to get you to stop eating a food you love, but how to work that into your diet and how to address dietary restrictions like going gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and more. If you want to eat healthier, or are looking for recipes specific to a family members dietary needs, this is a great book to explore. Delicious recipes throughout and they include tips for adapting some of them to fit different lifestyles. A great addition to my culinary cookbook collection!
This is an excellent cookbook for people with limited diets. it is easy to follow, broken down by meal type, and it includes a list of must-have kitchen essentials, which makes having the correct tools for delicious cooking even easier.
I am not very creative when it comes to Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free meals, which is the diet I try to follow. This gave me so many ideas!
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of The Real Food Dietitians.
Written by real dietitians, the women seek to create healthy, gluten free, paleo meals for those with food allergies.
Most of the recipes are easy to make and can be made in an Instant pot or crock pot, ideal for families, and those who prep their meals in advance.
There are many meat and chicken dishes so this cookbook would not be a good gift for vegetarians, but there is almost something for everyone, and as a dessert lover, I was pleased to see the dessert section contained a decent amount of recipes.
I wish there were more photos and that some of the recipes, especially the desserts, featured more paleo, grain free options using almond and coconut flour.
This is a great cookbook that is basically paleo and gluten free. Dairy is used fairly often but it's always with a non-dairy or vegan substitute offered like full fat coconut milk. The recipes are made of whole foods and are pretty easy. There are lots of Instant Pot and slow cooker recipes, and many recipes have multiple ways of making them to suit your needs. There are lots of color photos and nutritional information is provided. Most of the recipes sound pretty tasty even for those who are used to Standard American Diet kind of recipes.
Examples of the sorts of recipes included: chicken nuggets made by breading with crushed tortilla chips, baked oatmeal sweetened with banana and peanut butter, chicken and corn chowder made in the IP or slow cooker.
There is a fair amount of meat used so this wouldn't be a great fit for full time vegetarians or vegans, but it's a great resource for those who just need some plant based recipes in their collection. Most of the recipes are higher in carbs than keto folks can handle, but it checks a lot of boxes for a lot of other healthy diets. The authors are also likeable and relatable. A great cookbook for your collection.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book via NetGalley.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great cookbook. The recipes were varied and interesting. There were options for people with allergies or various other food restrictions. And the pictures were wonderful.
