A great modern and fresh take on poetry! Some of these poems hit really hard and I actually had to take a step back, as they really made me think.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the e-arc.
This anthology of poems discusses unhealthy relationships, death, mourning, self-love, and personal development. It includes themes that practically everyone can identify with, which is why I liked it, and I believe that these feelings are challenging to articulate. I also appreciated how quick a read it was—I finished it in under an hour.
This was such an uplifting read, and I found it perfect for winding down at night. It was also my first poetry collection that I've read, so it became very special early on for me. This collection explored love, loss, grief, longing, and identity, among many other important topics. I loved that this collection touched on different themes that many people could relate to, or experiences they may share. Overall, I really enjoyed how personal this collection of poems was.
The Sun Always Knows Where to Find Me struck right in my heart. It seemed as though every other poem I related to, which is not always a thing for me. This stunning poetry book had beautiful words and a great flow as well.
A great soothing read, Elodie Parthenay has a brilliant way with words. Another fantastic author and poet you need to keep an eye on.
This collection resonated with me on so many levels. It appeared to be quite chronological and gave a brief snapshot of life and love as it blooms and fades away. It felt raw and honest, and I could not help but highlight the quotes that really spoke to me. Parthenay seems to talk to you as a reader, while also talking to herself through the poetry she writes in this book. This collection is therapy, is a friend comforting you, a warm hug, a slap in the face to bring you back to reality.
At times, it did feel a little 'instagrammy' (but why should we always label that as a bad thing?) and at other times, it felt like Parthenay was taking the words straight out of her heart and talking directly to me.
I have to include a quote that resonated with me most, and made me want to cry - so don't read on if you don't want a little spoiler of the magic this collection holds:
"can you please try to be
a little gentler to yourself
you could use a little grace
couldn't we all?"
Amazing book, loved reading this. Some of the poems resignatedwith me on a personal level. I'd give this book 4 stars 🌟
In 2021, I wanted to read more poetry, and The Sun Always Knows Where to Find Me by Elodie Parthenay was the last collection of poems that I read last year. Let me tell you, it was not the best I ever read, but I will definitely check more of Elodie's work.
In a word: stunning.
Usually, when I read a great poetry book, there'll be a poem or two that really hits home. With this one, every single verse spoke to something inside me.
I don't know if I can even find the words to describe how much I enjoyed this collection... but I'll try.
Have you ever listened to a love song that has transported you back in time to a bittersweet Sunday morning, or soul shattering breakup? That's what this book did for me. It wasn't a performative painting of pretty words, it was emotional evangelism at its best.
Not only will I be recommending this to any poetry readers I know, but I'll be coming back to it and reading it again and again.
I have not read a lot of poetry books but was glad to take a look at this one. It was easy to read and a lovely introduction for me in reading something a little different.
Elodie takes us on an emotional journey yet at a steady pace so I never felt overwhelmed by the content.
Overall, a beautiful book that many poetry lovers will enjoy.
This was a beautiful collection of poetry. I particularly liked the poems about self-love. I connected with the poems even if I’ve not experienced what was being written about. The writing was simple and effective in its delivery.
I was pleasantly surprised by the poems in this book. Parthenay focuses on growth, through different perspectives, from love to loss, from lust to longing, from sisterhood to self-love. At the end of the day, there will always be bloom and learning and the sun will shine on us again (yes, this is a quote from Loki).
Each poem had a specific taste as I just mentioned, but what it was common through the book was an utter belief of hoping things will get better. Parthenay added this on each poem: never stop seeking joy. Life goes on, and even if things were not great, the awareness of our life as being humans with feelings is a powerful one. I found this collection of poetry to be uplifting, intimate yet relatable, and every single poem was interconnected into this overarching story of growth, and perhaps a starting point for us as readers to cultivate our own magic.
The appreciation of self-love as being a strong self-motivator is really empowering.
It was quite interesting that I was reading this book while listening to the album Red (Taylor's Version) by Taylor Swift which even when it's thought as a heartbreak album for me has an overarching story of growth after a heartbreak. I thought this book was a great poetry collection and definitely recommend everyone to read it!
The Sun Always Knows Where to Find Me by Elodie Parthenay was released on October 19th, 2021 both in physical and digital formats. Thank you NetGalley and Elodie Parthenay for the ARC!
I zipped through this really fast. I never felt attacked or in love with a poem. And it's not particularly memorable.
Great themes, love the visualisations, wonderful language and the poems feel like an ode to each topic but also like a conversation between two people.
Thank you for this ARC.
I don’t read a lot of poetry but I was intrigued by the cover and description of this book.
The books is broken into sections of poems and takes the reader on a journey from toxic relationships to growth and beyond.
Some of the poems were very raw, yet had a beautiful tenderness at the same time.
I enjoyed the journey through this book, and found many poems that I really cherished being invited to read.
I absolutely loved the cover and the blurb made me think this would be right up my street. I usually really enjoy this style of poetry however I just couldn't read the layout. I found it really hard to read on the app and it made the poems feel all over the place and not enjoyable to read. They are also described as uplifting but I dnf near the start and didn't agree with this. Poetry is so personal and I'm sure others will love it.
Thank you for the arc.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and honest.
I really enjoyed this book! I love reading poetry because I find it’s so easy to relate to. I also really love the cover of this book as it was what grabbed my attention in the first place. I would definitely recommend!
This book was read thanks to NetGalley.
This is a book filled with poems, that should be read with open mind and heart, you are not going to connect with all the poems but the ones that you get to connect with are going to be your favorite ones.
Thanks to NetGalley and Elodie Parthenay for this free digital copy in exchange for an honest review. This book is out now!
I have loved diving into more poetry this year! The collection was lovely--it was honest, vulnerable, reflective, relatable...just truly enjoyable to read. I felt like for a brief time, I was a part of Parthenay's life. I read it all in one sitting, in which I experienced a gamut of emotions. I have ordered a physical copy already, because this is one that I want to break down and sit with more. I just love that about poetry.
If you are a poetry fan, especially poetry centered around growth and life and female-empowerment, absolutely give this one a shot.
The Sun Always Knows Where to Find Me is a collection of poems about life, relationships and the realisation that you are, and always will be, the love of your own life. The format and style were very similar to Rupi Kaur's work, in fact, I found it a little too similar, I think poetry is such a personal thing and all about self-expression and not about fitting into norms and following a linear style and path. It was quick read and I did enjoy some of the poems but not something I'll be returning to like I do with other poetry collections sadly.
