Adeline and Mac are just perfection! I absolutely adore them together, and I appreciated the initial spark and then slow build of their relationship. There is a great mix of action and romance. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the story. The supporting characters from this series are great too, and I loved catching up with everyone. Looking forward to #4!

Ohhhh this was so good! This author never fails to keep you interested, no matter what she’s writing. When Adeline decides she needs some time away, a friend offers her their cabin. What she doesn’t know is the friends husband offered the cabin to Mac the sexiest man in the whole town. When Mac decides that a relationship might put her in danger he stands her up. What he doesn’t know is danger has found her anyway. Can he keep her safe?

Yay, another one of Katie Reus’ Verona Bay Series! Katie has the ability to pull you into the story, keep you on the edge of your seat aa and get you all hot and bothered. And all of it in a single story!

This one is about Adeline, who has escaped her violent past. Now a success- full co-owner of a pet grooming store, she is finally moving on. The only thing missing is a nice guy in her life. The first guy that finally gets her motor revving however, ghosts her after their time together.

Mac didn’t have time for dating in his early twenties. Due to the death of his grandmother, he has raised his two brothers on his own. And now that they are all grown up, but still living together, bringing in a woman in the mix could lead to something awkward. But when he meets Adeline, he is tempted to give it a try. However, when Mac gets threatened, he decides to push Adeline away to keep her safe. still having trust issues, Adeline doesn’t know how to feel about Mac. He is running hot and cold and Adeline doesn’t like that. Unfortunately, the killer after Mac already has set his sights on Mac’s brothers and on Adeline. So now, Mac not only needs to keep his brothers safe, but he also needs to convince Adeline that he really does like her. Can he keep her safe or will he be too late?

As usual, Katie knows how to keep you guessing about the ending.

I loved the interaction between Mac and his brothers and how they tried to convince him to take a chance on Adeline. Great story, I hope there will be stories for Mac’s brothers as well!

Five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc (in exchange of an honest review).

SILENT PROTECTOR is the third instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult VERONA BAY erotic, romantic suspense series. This is former US Marine turned woodworker Mac Collins, and pet groomer Adeline Rodriguez’ story line. SILENT PROTECTOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Adeline and Mac, SILENT PROTECTOR follows the building romance and relationship between former US Marine turned woodworker Mac Collins, and pet groomer Adeline Rodriguez. Adeline Rodriguez was spending her time off , her vacation at a friend’s cabin in the woods but found herself sharing said time off with former US Marine Mac Collins. Mac’s friend Derek loaned the use of his cabin to our story line hero never once mentioning the ‘guest’ with whom he was about to face down but the approach of a sudden storm turned violent forcing our couple to reconsider what’s next.

Meanwhile, Mac’s brother Joe discovered a possible meth lab on property adjacent to the family home, and with Mac’s return, a series of attacks including an explosion, fire, and several murders force Mac, his brothers and Adeline on the run. On the run, trying to stay one step ahead of a possible killer, Mac and Adeline’s relationship becomes something more, something neither one realized was about to happen. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Mac and Adeline, and the potential fall-out as a drug dealer turned killer sets his sights on our story line couple.

Mac Collins has lusted after Adeline Rodriguez ever since they met but every opportunity to get together has been cancelled by our hero, including a recent attempt at a Saturday night date. Mac knows Adeline’s past has left many scars both inside and out, and in this, he refuses to place Adeline in the direct line of fire when a killer comes gunning for vengeance and death. Adeline Rodriguez knows betrayal and abuse first hand but struggles with Mac’s on again, off again attraction to our story line heroine. On the run, and in hiding for their lives, Mac and Adeline are often just one step ahead of a man targeting their lives.

The relationships between Adeline and Mac is a sort-of friends to lovers that struggles with Mac’s inability to commit to a date. Not once but twice Mac has bailed on our story line heroine, and in this Adeline battles between head and heart believing Mac is unwilling to move forward from the past. Time spent together brings our couple closer, and with a killer on the loose, Mac and Adeline must be ever vigilant in an effort to survive what vengeance has in store. The limited $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Mac’s younger brothers Joe and Dylan,as well as Chief Robert Hayward, his son Harlan, and the return of Serenity and Lucas (Dark Memento 1), and Autumn and Lincoln (Deadly Past 2). The requisite evil has many faces.

SILENT PROTECTOR is a small town romantic suspense story with plenty of action, betrayal, vengeance and death. The fast paced premise is intriguing, inviting and captivating; the slow building romance is seductive and encouraging ; the characters are edgy and consuming.

SILENT PROTECTOR by Katie Reus is book Three in the Verona Bay Series. This is the story of Adeline Rodriguez and Mac Collins. I did feel this could be a standalone book. Adeline has come to Verona Bay to start over after a violent past. When she meets Mac she is of course attracted to him and she thinks to risk herself again with him. But he then looses contact with her making her confront him. Mac is the alpha male who wants to protect his siblings and his feels are getting strong toward Adeline but he has a danger that is making him want to keep his distance but when Adeline because a target he goes all in. I am a huge fan of this author so it was a must read and I do recommend her writing / this book.

With vivid description, thrilling suspense and action, and sweet, emotional romance, Silent Protector, Katie Reus’ Verona Bay book 3, explores the chemistry that has simmered between Mac Collins and Adeline Rodriguez since Dark Memento (#1). I’ve been waiting for this one! Adeline made a fresh start, building a new life for herself in Verona Bay. With close friends and as co-owner of a pet grooming business, she’s not the woman who fled her life, burying the secrets of her violent past. But those secrets and her past, which Adeline shares with no one, are keeping her from having a relationship. When Mac asks her out, she avoids him out of fear. Mac had reconciled himself to not having a chance with her until they were stuck alone together in a remote cabin during a storm. And, finally, just when Adeline decides to take a chance and go out with Mac, who has wanted her since their first meeting, he pushes her away. Instead of giving up on him, she confronts Mac, catching the attention of a dangerous, vengeful killer from his past.

Strong, sexy, dependable, and protective of those he cares about, Mac knows what he wants, and he’s open, honest, and straightforward about it. He wants Adeline, and he’s made no secret of that. But the last thing Mac wants is for her to be hurt because of him. So, as much as he wants her, he’s willing to let her go to keep her safe. While she is burdened still by her past and afraid of being hurt again, losing Mac, or things not working out, Adeline wants him as much as he wants her. After spending time with him at the cabin, she knows he’s worth the risk. The moments in the novel that focus on them spending time together are sweet, sexy, emotional, and filled with sparks. I loved them growing closer as friends at the cabin. I would have enjoyed Silent Protector way more if the novel included more moments like this and less time focused on the POV, mental state, and sex life of the villain,

My expectations were high. Reus delivers with the suspense, action, and overall plot, as usual. Unfortunately, however, the development of Mac’s and Adeline’s romantic relationship is disappointing because there simply isn’t enough time spent on it. Too much time focusing on the villain’s POV shortchanges that development. I had been looking forward to their novel and would have preferred more time spent with them getting to know each other better and transitioning from acquaintances to friends to lovers. Instead, they lost crucial POV time to the villain and substantial time to Lincoln, the sheriff. At least, however, his POV focuses on content critical to the plot. One thing guaranteed to turn me off in a romance is content about the villain’s sex life/sexual activities included, not to mention before/near love scenes between the hero and heroine. Mood killer! I had to take a break and get my mind refreshed and come back to finish the novel. Silent Protector is a dark, intense, thrilling, suspenseful follow-up that focuses a bit too much on the villain instead of on the protagonists and developing the romance for my liking.

Silent Protector by Katie Reus
Verona Bay Series #3

Adeline and Mac have been circling one another for awhile with Mac unsure why Adeline, who seemed interested, blew him off. In close quarters during a storm they talk, deal with the storm, and think they might try again only to have a bad guy get in the way. Thwarting the bad guy, making sure Mac’s brothers are safe, and seeing if their relationship can become more is what this story is about.

What I liked:
* Adeline: survivor, dog groomer, quilter, has trust issues, might be ready to settle down, is attracted to Mac, tutor, is a board game champion
* Mac: older brother, ex-military, finished raising his two younger brothers, businessman, carpenter, artist, is attracted to Adeline
* Dylan and Joe – Mac’s younger brothers
* The relationship Mac had with his brothers
* The small-town setting
* Seeing the couples from the previous two books
* That the bad guy was not from Adeline’s past
* That the bad guy was eventually thwarted

What I didn’t like
* The bad guy…he was off the charts evil and perhaps damaged?
* The way Mac, Adeline, Joe & Dylan seemed to want to play amateur detective and step in where perhaps they should have let the professionals do the job.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes, but perhaps not as much as the first two books
Can it be read as a standalone story? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and, Inkslinger PR for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This is the 3rd book in the Verona Bay series and can be read as a stand alone. This book has Mac and Adeline being the main focus of the story but characters from the previous books are mentioned.

Adeline moved to Verona Bay to start over away from the violent memories that haunt her. Happy without man in the picture she focuses all her attention on her pet grooming business. That was until the gorgeous, sexy Mac Collins catches her attention and vice-versa and makes her feel things she wasn't expecting. Now she has a chance at experiencing what a real relationship is like if only Mac didn't cancel their date and start ghosting her. Oh and did I mention that the last person she dated it ended with BLOOD and DEATH!!

Mac Collins has wanted Adeline since the moment he saw her so when he finally gets her to lower her guard and let him in and agree to a date he thinks things are starting to look up. But Mac's past has come back to haunt him and unfortunately that puts Adeline's in a killers crosshairs who will do anything to destroy those close to Mac.

I really liked this book thought it had a good plot and liked the characters. I liked that Adeline had a bond with Mac's brothers and that they were protective of her like a little sister. Whilst overall I really enjoyed the book I did feel that Mac's reaction to Adeline's big 'secret' wasn't really realistic as he just shrugged it off like it wasn't a big deal, IT WAS! The author didn't really expand on that so it really didn't impact the story in anyway.

I think the author found the right balance between suspense, drama, action and romance. I will definitely be reading other books by this author and the rest of this series.

A big thank you to NetGalley and KR Press LLC for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This book is set in FL and I was a bit surprised at the weather-how cold it got. Didn't expect that actually that people wore hats and scarves. Anyway, I liked the book. The main characters Adeline and Mac are strong, independent people. The story was straight forward not many twists or turns and sort of predictable but still a fun read. 3.5 stars

"Silent Protector" is the third book in the Verona Bay Series, with Mac and Adeline story. A romantic suspense that has so many great elements to their story with drama, suspense, danger, and romance that readers have come to love from a book written by Katie Reus. Without telling the story, I would say this is a must have for readers of the genre. For me, it was a page turner with so much story, I found once I started reading, it hard to put down. **I was gifted "Silent Protector" via NetGalley, leaving my review based on my reading.** 5 Stars!

Adeline is trying to overcome her devastating past and she has recently moved to town to partner with her friend Serenity in a business. When she is offered the use of her friend’s cabin she decides it is the perfect getaway but finding out that she wouldn’t be alone is a surprise she wasn’t expecting.

Mac thought he would be spending the holidays alone at his friend’s cabin so when he finds out it is occupied by Adeline, he makes plan to leave the next morning however the inclement weather had other ideas. This time together allows them to become close but when they return Mac, and his brothers, find themselves in danger which means Adeline is caught in the crossfire as well.

Both Adeline and Mac are cautious when it comes to their hearts and love but although the situation they find themselves in is not ideal it does allow them to get to know each other under the worst of circumstances and realize that they don’t want their relationship to end when the danger does.

4.5 Stars

The third book in the Verona Bay series, Silent Protector is a well delivered romantic suspense. Former US Marine, now a woodworker Mac Collins, and pet groomer Adeline Rodriguez are the stories main characters surrounded by a great cast of characters including Mac’s brothers. Action packed, with everything you need in a great romantic suspense, deceit, intrigue, vengeance, and love. Silent Protector was a captivating story and one I would very much recommend.

I loved the first two books in the Verona Bay series and expected to feel the same about Silent Protector but this book just didn’t do it for me and I think it was down to the character of Adeline, the heroine of the story. Sorry but I just didn’t like her as a character and couldn’t bring myself to care what happened to her! I loved Mac and his relationship with his younger brothers and the plot itself was promising with a vengeful drug dealer on a killing spree out for revenge against Mac but I just wouldn’t have cared if the killer had killed Adeline in the process. In fact a small part of me would’ve cheered him on! I did enjoy catching glimpses of some of the characters from the previous books but not enough to change my opinion and since I judge my level of enjoyment of a book partly on how I feel about the main characters I don’t think Silent Protector will be one I’ll be re-reading

Silent Protector by Katie Reus is full of suspense and romance, its the third book in the Verona Bay Series. This book focuses on Adeline Rodriguez & Mac Collins and could be read as a standalone. Characters from other stories are mentioned, but not having read the first two books does not impact the story. Mac and his brothers have been through a lot in their lifetime, after losing their parents, Mac gave up his military career to raise his two younger brother. Mac has wanted Adeline since the moment they met, but she made it clear that she didn’t want a relationship. Adeline is a co-owner of a pet grooming business who has a secretive past. When they are double booked at a friend’s cabin and bad weather causes them to stay together in that cabin they finally open up to their past. Mac is extremely protective of Adeline and his brothers, he was anticipating what might happen and taking steps against it. Once she was embroiled in the danger he was a force to be reckoned with as he faced it head on, determined to keep her safe. The relationships between Adeline and Mac is a sort-of friends to lovers that struggles with Mac’s inability to commit to a date. Mac knows Adeline’s past has left many scars both inside and out, and in this, he refuses to place Adeline in the direct line of fire when a killer comes gunning for vengeance and death.
While it isn’t necessary to read the previous books in this series, I highly recommend that you do so just so you can make a connection to all the characters. However, this gives enough information that you can easily follow it without feeling as though you’re missing anything. This is a small town romantic suspense story with plenty of action, betrayal, vengeance and death.

Can Mac keep Adeline safe from the dangers that are lurking in Verona Bay?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

A slow burn. Mac and Adeline get unexpectedly thrown together. They decide to date, but something happens. Together again they slowly work their way towards each other. Lots of action and drama. Sweet epilogue.

This author did not disappoint in this one. Adeline buried her secrets, for me that is a good ingredient in a book. She starts over and later tries at a relationship. The thing is he doesn't show and she wants to know why. Mac really likes her but did not show up to protect her. Danger comes anyway because of confrontation. Turn the pages to find out what plays out for them.

So I went into this not having read the others in the series as it's supposedly a standalone, which I guess in a way is true, but on the other hand I feel like so much of the female main character's back story and the horrors she went through were skimped over and I would of really of liked to learn more.
Normally I adore books by this author but overall this book felt "flat" for lack of a better word. Those who know her usual page turning reads will know what I mean. I'm a detailed thrill seeking when reading and know how well the author normally tackles that so maybe she's just raised my expectations.
Not every book is going to be for every reader and that's ok. I know many who will enjoy.

Adeline Rodriguez is spending time in a friend’s cabin, relaxing and painting when Mac Collins arrives. They each had separately borrowed the cabin, from the owners, without knowing about the other. Mac had expressed an interest in dating her, but she is still recovering from the time when she was kidnapped. Mac had raised his two younger brothers and established a well-known and sought-after wood working business. His decision in regards to a meth lab near his property ends up putting him and his siblings in jeopardy from a recently released and dangerous prisoner. Adeline finally decides to take a chance on Mac as she has been attracted to him for several years. When his home and business is targeted, he is worried that Adeline may be targeted as well. If he distances himself from her, will that keep her safe or is he too late? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
