I would like to first thank NetGalley and Random House Ballentine for allowing me to review this book. I have long been a fan of Danielle Steel and had such high hopes. This book is about Antonia, a woman who is born to an aspiring actress and a wealthy American father. Her mom leaves her dad when she is young. He basically abandons her because she reminds him of her mother. She has a promising friendship in college that I was disappointed that was dropped fast. The rest of the book is like the rest. Antonia becomes the best actress, has the best marriage, etc. I wish people would struggle a little more in her books.
Antonia loves films but she has no intention of being in front of the camera- until she meets Hamish, who becomes the love of her life. The child of a mother who abandoned her and a father who saw her mother in her and thus disparaged her, she's always done her best to be, well invisible. Now, though she's at the front in both her work and in her relationship with Hamish. They have a good one until, no spoilers, but know that Antonia has terrific kids who she treats and loves the way she wishes she had been. In many ways this is classic Steel, with a heroine who finds strength in herself after a hard time and a great love as well. I also liked the details of the movie business. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
Danielle Steel continues to write amazing stories! Every so often I read a book that is so good I know I’ll remember it for years to come; Invisible is that book! I started this book on a Friday night and finished by Saturday afternoon. The characters, storyline, and emotions portrayed make this book one of my favorite of 2021!
Invisible by Danielle Steel was a book that I read and was left wanting so much more.
This is a story of Antonia Adam’s life. She had a very unhappy and rough childhood with no real love from either her mother or father. The family she was born into was not ever a true family.
I found this book for me to be flat and not have the emotion I usually get from a Danielle Steel book. I wanted to feel like I was connected to a character in the story, but I never got that this time.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC. This is my personal review.
I received this copy from NetGalley/publishers! I can't wait for the next read and couldn't put it down..I alway love her books and always look forward to the next.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
I had not read a Danielle Steel book in several years as I had found them boring. Same theme but different characters every time. Invisible didn’t change my expectations. Main character was unloved by her father, mother abandoned the family, main character finds love, marries and love dies. Sad story but boring especially if you have read other books by this author.
What a wonderful story of a little girl who overcame a horrible childhood. Antonia was a beautiful child who was born to a woman who had no emotional connection with her. At three years old Antonia’s mother walked out on her and her husband leaving Antonia with a man so bitter he could barely look at her. Antonia went to the movies every Saturday hoping to catch a glimpse of the women who never wanted anything to do with her. Antonia persevered and made a life for herself acting and later writing. She suffered heartache and happiness. This book will make you laugh and it will make you cry. Danielle Steel has written another best seller!! Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I rediscovered Danielle Steel about 2 years ago. Her books rarely disappoint me when I am looking for a light and easy book to read. Invisible tells the story of Antonia who rises above abusive parents and finds love and a career and makes a wonderful life for herself! Although parts of the plot were predictable, the story flowed easily and kept my attention. A wonderful escape! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
3.5 stars for this one ...
The good - I enjoyed Antonia's character, for the most part. There were a few nuances that were annoying but overall she was a decent, sympathetic character. I liked her relationship with Hamish - given her upbringing, it made a lot of sense, and I thought Hamish was a good influence on her. I really enjoyed Lara's character as well, and her relationship with Antonia. And finally, I enjoyed seeing the progression of Antonia's life, and how she overcame so many personal issues to find success and happiness.
The not so good - Antonia's brief reconnection with her mother; incredibly obvious and contrived. It felt forced and fell completely flat, and added next to nothing to the overall storyline. Antonia's relationship with her daughter as she was growing up also felt forced and obvious. I ended up hating Antonia's father, which was probably to be expected, but I found myself wishing his relationship with Antonia had taken a different path as she got older.
As a final thought (and I realize that this is probably getting way too deep for a critique of a Danielle Steel novel), I felt that while Antonia's character stayed true to her desire to be invisible as she was growing up, she evolved into a strong, self-sufficient and incredibly successful adult, which didn't entirely jive with the book title and overall premise of the storyline.
Despite some of my somewhat trivial issues with the book, I enjoyed this one and would recommend it to Danielle Steel fans.
In true Danielle Steel style, this book takes you through all the emotions and feels of family dynamics. Invisible deals with the repercussions of trauma as a child.
Antonia grew up in a dysfunctional family-her mother wanted nothing more than to be an actress and not a mother and her father resented her for not being a mother to their child. Once her mother leaves to pursue her career, Antonia is left with her father to raise her, and he has no idea what to do and is resentful of it so he builds a wall up and pushes Antonia out. Antonia deals with this as she always does, and puts her nose to the grindstone at home and at school and makes herself invisible by doing everything that is expected of her and not drawing attention to herself. She dreams of becoming a screenwriter so she goes to university to study it and it changes her life. When she meets her future husband, a famous director, he puts her in front of the screen so she won’t be invisible anymore. She also meets her best friend, falls in love and it changes her future and how she looks at her past.
Thanks to Random House and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.

Classic Danielle Steele, I enjoyed the book. But didn't like the main character being such a pushover. I wish shed write a book about a badass women. Not a doormate
What a sad, depressing read. Steel has created some reprehensible characters in her long career of writing, but Brandon and Fabienne are worse than that. I spent the first half of the book wishing I could deck both of them. The main character is compliant and submissive for most of the book. This wasn’t one of Steel’s better reads.
Antonia Adams grows up in a loveless home. She is abandoned by her actress mother and ignored by her father. Movies become her comfort and Saturday’s were spent at the theater hoping to see her mother in one if the films. When she goes to college, she makes friends with Jake who wants to be an actor. Antonia has decided she is going to be a screenwriter so they have a lot in common. Antonia get an internship as a gofer on the set of a movie for the summer and returns the next summer to be a lowly assistant for producer Hamlisch Quist. He notices her and talks her into doing a walk on part in his movie. He thinks she does a great job and with her beauty is a natural for a career on the screen. She tells him that she is not interested and returns to school. He contacts her and convinces her to take the part in his movie. They begin a relationship that leads to marriage as she feels safe with him. Though she is acting she is determined to one day become a screenwriter.
Thanks to Danielle Steel and Random House Publishing Group Ballantine
What a powerful story. When I read the description, I thought it would be interesting - I didn't know parts of it would break my heart. Antonia's parents should be shot. How cruel they were.. However, she rose above it as she went to college and met the love of her life and studied to be a screen writer. She had few friends, but the ones she had were loyal. When she met Hammish, he talked her into being in his films, but she was not comfortable with it. She would rather be invisible. They were happy such a short time. She did learn so much from him in that time for being a director. Liife goes on after a horrible accident and she buys a farm in Connecticut to raise her children. She eventually finds love again, but is still very uncomfortable in the limelight.
A wonderful Danielle Steel that I will reread.
I got this book from NetGally and am voluntarily giving a honest review
A favorite author Danielle Steel. Her stories never disappoint. Invisible is another book to add to that list.
This book was so beautiful. I fell in love with it instantly. It broke my heart many times but also made me so happy. I would 100% recommend this book!! Thank you, NetGalley!
Antonia Adams is the daughter of a rich American businessman and his wanna-be actress wife. Her mother never wanted her and her dad is too busy for her. She grows up feeling that she’s been the cause of their unpleasant split. Steel does a nice job of developing her character as Antonia moves on to college and adulthood but her awful childhood may trigger some people. I enjoyed this book and thank the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I read Danielle Steel books decades ago, then I got sidetracked by thrillers and mysteries. When Netgalley had her newest novel Invisible, I was glad to read it. We learn the life story of Antonia who hides while her narcissistic parents argue; she wants to be invisible.
Steel has her own unique style of writing, and she hasn’t changed. As another reviewer wrote, there is a tragic unexpected death in the middle, so you wait with dread to see what happens. Many thanks to Netgalley and Delacorte Press for re-introducing me to Steel.
I'm thankful to Danielle Steel for being such a prolific writer. I can almost guarantee a good read.
The biggest pro for this one is the fact that I read it in one sitting.. love a story I can't put down! They seem to be rarer and rarer nowadays. Also, the "invisible" leading lady was so relatable. The reader surely knew her so much better than her own father or mother, and you'll find yourself cheering her on.
Negative comments are the too-graphic sex scenes, language (although I've read so much worse) and the fact that there's always a tragic, unexpected death in Ms Steel's books. I would have enjoyed the story more if I weren't constantly waiting to see who the victim would be.
I haven’t read Danielle Steel in years, but I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read Invisible. I’m not sure who penned the quote “from pain comes strength” but is never more clear than it is in this story.
Antonia is a girl that grows up in a loveless home. Her mother never wanted her and her father felt she was always a reminder of her mother and his failure with her. Due to all the arguing her parents did, it was easier for Antonia to disappear into herself and become “invisible”. She never wanted to do or say anything to upset either of them. When she is seven her mother leaves for good. She’s left with a father that wants nothing to do with her. When she becomes a teenager, he marries Lara, a wonderful stepmother and gives Antonia something she’s never felt, love. As she becomes a woman, she carries those feelings with her and it very much shapes her life., but it’s up to you to read the book to see what I mean.
The story is beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. Antonia is a character that you can’t help but want to love her and protect her. Life is not easy and there are heartbreaks along the way and is illustrated beautifully in the writing here. This is a book not to missed.
Thank you to #netgalley, and #RandomHousePublishing/Ballantine for allowing me to read this story.
