*thank you NetGalley for my digital ARC of this book*

okay hello hi i'm obsessed with this book please and thank you. i think this romcom deserves the same hype as books like the hating game or beach read. it's funny and heartwarming and spicy and just the right amount of cheesy. i think it was a wonderful and exciting debut. i did have some issues with the social media talk and the phrasing of it, but it definitely doesn't do much to diminish my excitement about crystal, the midsize poc leading lady we all deserve

This was a very cute story where you couldn't help but root for the characters. It was a great story to escape your life and just chill while reading something cute and funny.

Omg this was so good! I loved it! Will there be more?? Because I need more! As soon as I started reading this I knew I would love it. This debut was so well written and I cannot wait to read more from this author!

Crystal is such a relatable and lovable main character. As a curvy, biracial personal trainer and IG fitness influencer, she has had to deal with a lot of fat phobia, haters, rude comments and cyber bullying. I loved the growth of her character throughout though, and that she begins to love herself as much as she helps others to do. This book was full of lessons on self love, body positivy/respect and more.

This book is heartwarming, funny, sweet and spicy too 👀 I absolutely loved Scott and Crystal together. That chemistry though! Whether texting, bickering or working out together, the chemistry was strong from the very beginning! Speaking of Scott ..... Uhm *chef's kiss*. Funny, patient, kind and supportive, he was absolutely perfect! I would LOVE to see his POV!!

I also loved how this focused on IG jobs, comments, messages and there was even a nod to bookstagrammers! Absolutely loved that.

Read if you enjoy:
• witty banter
• slow burn
• chemistry for days
• enemies to friends to lovers

(Petition for a Flo/Martin novella?! 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️)

Thank you SO MUCH Berkeley Romance for sending me this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is due for publication 5/10/22 and I definitely recommend it!

Unfortunately, this one didn't work for me. I really struggled to connect with it from the very beginning. The writing is engaging, enough, but the pacing was very slow with a lot of "extra" that pushed it more into Women's Fiction territory for me, rather than the romance my heart and I showed up for. I also wasn't really into the "fitstagrammer" angle. On its face, it seemed like something I should have been able to connect with - but for some reason I really didn't. It felt like it was trying too hard and in the end, it felt like I was skimming too much and connecting with too little to keep going. This was a DNF for me at 25%.

Honestly didn't finish it. The author threw every trendy youth stereotype at the reader at a dizzying rate. Within the first few pages you are bombarded with social media buzzwords, and my brain immediately made everything the protagonist said sound like a question? The way women of a certain age do? I recognize I am not the target demographic, but I don't think that the young women that the book may be intended for would appreciate being simplified in this way either.

Crystal is a curvy body positivity influencer- whose focus is to promote self love, no matter your size and to ignore the haters.

Scott is a hot firefighter...🤦🏼‍♀️😂 Spoiler alert.. he isn't a jerk like you first thought😍❤️

The banter between Crys and Scott was fun. Mainly because Scott was set on winning her heart and Crys was set on keeping them apart. Which of course makes for a fun chase.

When Scott finally wins her over, Crys introduces him the her followers, and the trolls become too much for her to handle. She completely shuts down & shuts everyone out... Including Scott.

This is where Crystal learns a very valuable lesson, & I think we can all take something from it too. But I'll leave you all to figure that out 😉

SLOW BURN SWOON.

This was an amazing debut!! Incredibly heart warming and full on grin inducing. Crystal and Scott will bring the house down.

I loved Crystal. I loved so many of the conversations and topics she spoke about in regards to her identity, fitness, health and more. It was like the author was in my mind reminding me and telling me things I needed to hear. As someone who struggles (and I mean who doesn’t?) with many of the themes I loved the way this was approached.

Now, the ROMANCE. Ohhhh my gosh. SWOON. I didn’t know how much I would adore a love story primarily set-up around a gym. It was the best. I loved the instant charged connection and the subtle ways these two clearly showed their growing feelings. It wasn’t quite as angsty as I was thinking it would be, but it was gosh dang sweet. I loved the development and the banter. All of these tiny moments amounting into tender confessions. Scott Ritchie is the kind of love interest I will never tire of seeing in a romance.

A lot of the ending scenes were wonderful. I had a minor issues with some aspects, but I am all for a grand gesture so I was able to look past [most] of it. Not to mention, throwing in an it’s always been you trope had to be the icing on the cake. I can not handle another moment with Crystal and Scott because I will be in a puddle on the floor.

Please tell me Amy Lea has more books coming??

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary romance
- Language: very mild
- Romance: a few open door with low explicitness
- Trigger/Content Warnings: fatphobia, cyber bullying, racism, fitness/diet culture, cancer

Initially I was drawn to this book by the premise, fantastic cover art, and the promise of some great representation (curvy, female body positive fitness influencer).

I firmly believe that there is a reader for every book, and that not every book is for every reader and that’s okay. For me, this one wasn’t my cup of tea - it has elements that I appreciated, but wasn’t quite what I was looking for.

Highlights of this book for me were some of the great topics taken on - I love to see romcoms / romance reads that balance more serious topics with levity. In this case, I was happy to see some focus given to body positivity, wellness, self love and social media and it’s impact of mental health and wellness.

Part was the pacing, it felt slow to start (for me) and didn’t grab me initially and the voice of the main felt youthful in a way I didn’t quite connect with as well. Finally, the romance in this case wasn’t one that really grabbed me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the opportunity to try an early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Crystal Chen is a body positive influencer who insta-hates Scott, a fireman who also works out at their shared gym, Excelsior. It starts with accusations of phone swiping, and leads to pure contempt & lust simultaneously. They bond when they discover their grandparents are getting married. Is this HAWT? Yeah. Is their angst & swoon? Yes. Is there a HEA? Absolutely.

What a great debut novel!! I’d give this 4.5 stars if we could do half-star ratings! I was totally swept up in this book. I loved the characters and the love story, Scott and Crystal are perfect for each other and the chemistry and banter was top notch! I’ve read a lot of contemporary romance and I really enjoyed that this had a unique premise but still kept all of the tropes I love!

Also want to mention that I loved how it tackles some really big topics about self-love, self-respect, toxic positivity, cyber bullying and just navigating living our lives on social media and how it affects mental health.

Definitely recommend this book to all romance lovers out there!

Set on You by Amy Lea is a contemporary romantic comedy. This one combines romance and humor in an engaging and fun story. It features curvy biracial fitness influencer and personal trainer Chrystal Chen who uses social media to promote a healthy life and a positive body image no matter how you look. After a recent break-up, she finds solace in her daily gym workouts. When firefighter Scott Ritchie shows up and steals her favorite squat rack, the sparks fly.

Chrystal and Scott are both well-developed characters with a lot of depth. Both also have flaws which make them seem even more realistic. Chrystal is confident, kind, strong-willed, competitive, and challenging with trust issues. Scott is arrogant, competitive, thoughtful, and protective. The secondary characters have varying degrees of depth that is applicable for their roles in this story line.

The author provides a look at a love that blooms slowly between the two main characters. The prose is well-written, touching at times, and humorous at other times. There is a lot of focus on family, friendship, hard work, and communication with a few romantic scenes in the last third of the novel. While there is an immediate attraction, they start out as antagonists. This romance takes time to develop and flourish. Several serious themes play a role in this story as well. These include trust, cyberbullying, racism, fitness, self-control, forgiveness, anxiety, self-doubt, respecting yourself, acceptance, beauty standards, and more. My one quibble was that it was a little too predictable.

Overall, this was an entertaining, appealing, and delightful novel with some humor and laugh out-loud moments as well as some pivotal stressful and emotional times. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Berkley Publishing Group and Amy Lea provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. Publication date is currently set for May 10, 2022.

I absolutely loved this book! I love when books have Curvy or plus size MC’s and Scott…. A firefighter and he’s SWEET AS CANDY🍭🔥 I adored Crystal and her personality so much! I loved the tension and I especially loved the banter. It was such a fun read, and I caught myself laughing during some of the scenes. It focuses on important issues too including cyber bullying, fatphobia, etc. I may have also bought my first lululemon item because of Crystal🙊 overall, I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading more books by Amy Lea!!!

I really loved this romance, especially as a debut from Amy Lea! I loved all the themes of this book, ranging from body positivity, family, forgiveness/trust, and standing up for yourself. Scott and Crystal were so cute and I loved how obsessed he was with her right from the moment he saw her (the fact that he immediately bought a year-long gym membership so he could spend more time with her??). I loved the subplot between Scott and Crystal's grandparents and the touches of Crystal being biracial and what that means to her and her family was also genuine and heartwarming. I wish we got to see more of Scott's profession as a firefighter and that it had a bigger role in the novel because it's so cool for a profession for a romance male lead and I feel like I haven't read about firefighter male leads in contemporary romances often! Overall, I definitely recommend this book for romance lovers when it releases in May and I can't wait to see what novels Amy Lea has planned next!

4/5 stars!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Romance for sending me an E-ARC of this book for an honest review.

SYNOPSIS:
A gym nemesis pushes a fitness influencer to the max in Amy Lea’s steamy debut romantic comedy.

Curvy fitness influencer Crystal Chen built her career shattering gym stereotypes and mostly ignoring the trolls. After her recent breakup, she has little stamina left for men, instead finding solace in the gym – her place of power and positivity.

Enter firefighter Scott Ritchie, the smug new gym patron who routinely steals her favorite squat rack. Sparks fly as these ultra-competitive foes battle for gym domination. But after a series of escalating jabs, the last thing they expect is to run into each other at their grandparents' engagement party.

In the lead up to their grandparents' wedding, Crystal discovers there’s a soft heart under Scott’s muscled exterior. Bonding over family, fitness, and cheesy pick-up lines, she just might have found her swolemate. But when a photo of them goes viral, savage internet trolls put their budding relationship to the ultimate test of strength.

I was so excited to read this book because I had heard amazing things about it from other friends who had gotten the ARC as well. This book was so cute and so good!

I absolutely loved getting to know both Scott and Crystal as people while watching them learn to trust one another and fall in love. I loved all of the discussions around self love and acceptance in this book as well as those conversations in relation to workout culture. Crystal is working through a lot of trauma on the personal and relationship front, and it was an emotional ride watching her work through these things and let herself fall in love with Scott as well as come to love herself more.

If you love romance then I recommend this book to you. It is emotional, sexy, fun, and such a great read!

Thanks for reading!
Caden

Amy, first let me say THANK YOU for writing this book. While I am not Asian, I am plus size and there is so little representation of this group in books. You brought a whole new meaning to body respect and how it’s ok to love yourself even if it’s not all the time. You were able to put into words things I often struggle to say as a larger woman.

Now, let’s get down to Crystal and Scott. I absolutely loved them, all their flaws and baggage included. The way this couple went from enemies to acquaintances to friends to lovers was beautiful and so well written. There was just enough sexual tension and build up to keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more. The “big conflict” that always happens in romance novels did not feel forced and flowed really well with the narrative.

If you’re a fan on enemies to lovers, bad ass women, and Chris Evans book boyfriends then this is the book for you

This will definitely be a book I recommend to all my friends. I can’t wait to see what Lea writes next.
Thank you to Berkley, Netgalley, and Amy Lea for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review. Set on You is set to publish on May 10, 2022.

This is a cute romance! I enjoyed crystal's character and her realness, and her relationship with Scott was so fun. I did get frustrated for a minute when everything fell apart, I felt like she really was unfair to Scott, but she redeemed herself with a wonderful apology that both shared her thoughts and didn't blame him, which was refreshing.

This was sooooo good!!!! Omg I loved THIS BOOK!!! Plus size representation, gym romance, and personal trainer/fierfighter!!! Omg I loved this! I can't wait to get a physical copy!! Crystal is a plus size personal trainer and she meets her arch nemesis, Scott, and it just so happens their grandparent are getting married to each other. A picture gets out of them and the Internet always wants the final say. Omg I love how this book was written and handled with the social media aspects. I'm very excited to see what Amy Lea does next.

First of all, this cover is EVERYTHING. So cute and bright and just 10/10 cover art.
The things I loved about this book were: the curvy main character, the hot Chris Evans inspired firefighter, the STEAM, and the strong female friendships!
This wasn’t the most memorable romance for me, but it was still such an original premise and fun, easy read! It gets 3.75 stars from me! I highly recommend grabbing this one if you’re looking for something light that will make you smile and swoon! Thank you Netgalley and Berkley Romance for my advanced copy of Set on You! Looking forward to reading more from Amy Lea in the future!
