Elvis is and will always be the undeniable King of Rock and Roll. His life story is a fascinating tale of rage to riches and a very sad tale of manipulation at the hands of others and self-destruction. I have been a fan of Elvis since I was a child, and there is little about him I have not read, watched, or listened to in my desire to “know” him better.
I didn’t find much about Elvis inside the covers of this book. I was expecting a biography. What I got was quotes from other people about what they thought.
There were little to no details about his actual life and when it came to the parts where Elvis lost control of his life, it was just a bashing of an icon for bashing sake.
I have no disillusions about Elvis. I may have loved him, but I know he was human and imperfect. But show a little respect. You can tell the truth, both pretty and ugly, without trashing him.
Thanks to @Netgalley, Riverdale Avenue Books, and Boze Hadleigh for this Arc in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.
This book was not what I expected.
The life of Elvis is ‘told’ in four parts (with an introduction and epilogue) through quotes of family, friends, co-stars etc. I have read many oral styled biographies and have enjoyed them. There was an actual life story being told. There was consistency and a flow that the reader could identify with. Unfortunately, this felt like a ‘he said, she said’ and not my type of a read.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest book review.
Thank you NetGalley and Riverdale Avenue Books for the opportunity to read "Elvis Forever: Looking Back on the Legacy of the King" in exchange for my honest review.
I was expecting a book with details on Elvis' life. This book had none of that. It was made up entirely of quotes from people - some distantly related to Elvis, some that never met Elvis or anyone in his family. While Elvis had his faults - like everyone else - there is no need to be bashing the man and that is what this book did.
I was also disappointed that there were no photographs in the book. No new information, just things pieced together through quotes.
HE LIVES. I love Elvis so much and yes, I am only 27 years old. I grew up with an Elvis fanatic of a dad and so sharing this book with him was so fun.
Are you looking for a unique book on Elvis? Then you should definitely pick this one up! I have been a fan of Elvis for as long as I can remember, and this book was so fun to read! Filled with quotes and information, it was a pleasure to peruse this book and a delight to read!
A collection of quotes from a range of people, some with barely any link to anyone in Elvis’ life, let alone Elvis himself, this book offers little analysis or new information about Elvis or his life. It doesn’t shy away from the realities which are often excused or glossed over, but it doesn’t add much either.
I didn’t find this book enjoyable. I wasn’t expecting it to be all quotes from writers, former co-stars, former employees and the like. It started off ok but by the halfway point it turned into a trashfest. I have no illusions about Elvis or how he led his life, but this was just bashing. Advance electronic review copy was provided by NetGalley, author Boze Hadleigh, and the publisher.
