I loved this book! It actually got me out of my book funk. I kept starting and stopping books because i just can't get into them; so, I decided to go for the Lauren Layne, because she has always been a sure bet for books that I will enjoy. Sure thing, I was hooked on the first dialogue, The interactions between Violet and Cain feel so real that I was immediately immersed and feeling for them. This would probably make a fantastic audiobook because the dialogues are so smooth. Made in Manhattan is a fun twist on a classic story; a slow burn romance with sizzling chemistry and lots of character growth. I highly recommend it.

Oh so perfect! I think my heart just melted! This is Lauren Layne at her best! The story leaves you with the feeling that all will be right in the world-that love always prevails. Cain and Violet’s relationship did have a very little angst-just enough to add a little spark. You can’t help but route for them from the very start. This is a feel good book that shouldn’t be missed.

Good book! This was a very cute light hearted read! All I used to read is romance type books , well lately all I read is murder mystery! So I don't know if I'm the best to review these books! Lol I'll read one every once in a while but I just can't get back into the romance game?! But this was a cute light read! I would recommend reading it to my friends and book fam ! Thank you Netgalley for sharing this book with me!

Cute take on Pygmalion/My Fair Lady. Very readable. A book I would recommend as a light beach or weekend read.

Made in Manhattan was my first Lauren Layne read. After reading the synopsis I was excited to dive in.

I love the Manhattan setting and the look into the lifestyle of the elite the book provides. There was just a glimpse into the similarities between Manhattan and New Orleans that really got me thinking about it.

The female MC developed and grew as the story progressed. I was definitely rooting for her and proud of the fierce female she was becoming.

While I liked the male MC I would have loved to have more insight into his thoughts and feelings throughout the book. I think switching between the female and male perspective throughout could have made me love the book even more.

Lauren Layne does it again with another charming New York tale of love and loss. Violet is a New York socialite who, despite her privilege has not had an easy life. She's faced the death of her parents and her grandmother, the loss of relationships, and loneliness that can creep into her life. When Violet's surrogate grandmother asks her to help transform her long lost grandson into social royalty, Violet reluctantly accepts. She is up for the challenge of turning the country boy into a city man. As she helps Cain begin his NY makeover, she begins to realize that she may be the one who actually needs a makeover. Violet has spent her life bending to the whims of everyone around her, never wanting to rock the boat, or stir the pot. Somehow Cain brings out her need for independence and to speak her mind. For the first time in her life, Violet can decide what she wants out of life, career, family, and love.

A sweet, albeit a bit over the top at times, novel - this was an easy read with some fun nods to My Fair Lady.
*The epilogue MADE the book for me* :)

After reading the description I was excited to give this book a shot and even more excited to read it once approved!

Thank you NetGalley, Lauren Layne, and Gallery Books for the chance to read an eARC of Made in Manhattan!

Violet was a fun MC to follow around. I started off not really caring for her, but as her character grew and developed she became fierce! However, this is one of the rare occasions I would have really liked to have seen the male perspective integrated into the story.

Cain is a sharp-tongued, rough around the edges, and overall sexy man. He is book boyfriend worthy, but it takes him a little to get there. My one gripe about Cain is the whiplash he gave me. You know the song “Hot n Cold” by Katy Perry… That song was written about these two. As the southern in me wants to say, bless Violet’s heart for putting up with him.

(Now I am listening to the song, hang on….)

Ok, I’m back. Sorry, it’s catchy and I can’t type and sing at the same time. O_o

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It didn’t keep me up at night with a burning need to finish devouring it, but it was a fun read. Great for someone looking for a sweet story with a little grit in the middle and lots of character growth in between.

I have loved Lauren Layne’s Oxford, Stiletto, and Central Park Pact series, but her newest, Made in Manhattan, lacks the sparkle of her previous books.

The character of Violet was fully developed. As she sets out to makeover Cain she begins to examine her life through the lens of an outsider and sees the need to make changes.

A one sided POV hampers our understanding of Cain who throughout most of the book comes across as too brooding and judgmental until the last chapter when we find out how he really feels about Violet as he finally expresses himself.

I love Lauren Layne's NYC world. This book was everything I was hoping it would be - charming, funny, and swoony!

Violet did start out a snob, but it was easy to tolerate because you know from the outset that this is basically gender-swapped My Fair Lady. And her personal journey was lovely to watch unfold. As she grew from being a people-pleaser to listening to herself and striking out on her own, I was rooting for her the whole way!

Part grumpy/sunshine, part enemies to lovers, the romance was very fun as well. Cain is definitely a stereotypical southern country dude who hated everything New York, but it was interesting to see him come around to the family business and to Violet.

Ok basically, loved the characters, love LL's NYC setting, loved the love.

Hmm! Can you hear the ominous sound of disappointment concerto! This is the terrible voice I reject to hear but I eventually listen every time I read a book I am expecting more and at the end: I get disappointed!

When I read the blurb: I realized the author wrote verse My Fair Lady: I got so excited and when I saw the digital copy on my NG library, I was extremely delighted that I accidentally dropped off my favorite coffee mug ( thankfully I adroitly glued the broken pieces) and started my awful, embarrassing but who cares happy Nily goes lucky dance! I loved Lauren Layne’s love stories take place at my favorite place in the states so I said Hallelujah!

But… yes there are some not so positive comments about to come:

The book is shorter than original novels’ length: because it only focused on interactions between upper-class Manhattan socialite and a very direct, unpolished- denim loving hero from Louisiana!

This gives you sunshine meets the grump troupe vibes but intact this book’s main troupe is sunshine heroine who is expected to be rich, spoiled, hardly tolerable but surprisingly she’s nice and relatable meets extremely grumpy absolutely hatable and ultra punchable hero!

When you look at the original concept between snobbish professor and clumsy flower girl, you expect to hate the wealthy and posh character. But surprisingly we easily detest the hero because he treats our heroine so poorly till the last chapter which means he exceeded my douchebag endurance threshold more than thousand times! I gritted my teeth and cursed to the mother who gave birth to Cain Stone at each time he made a snarky comment to our good hearted, kind Violet whose only intention to create a well mannered gentleman from a narcissistic nasty douche.

And I also pissed off Violet’s bestie: instead of supporting her friend, she takes sides with Cain. How can you encourage your best friend to flirt with a man who treats her like a doormat. Nope, sorry, I cannot accept this!?

I didn’t have problem about the author’s way of adapting the story to present Manhattan lifestyle and the idea of reverse retelling was also brilliant. It was easy read! There were smart dialogues, palpable push-pull chemistry. I spent my time to curse at hero too much but at least I didn’t get bored! I finished it in one sit! Lauren Layne is amazing creator of fairytalish Manhattan stories give you so much quality and enjoyable time!

When I measure ups and downs of my reading journey, I finally decided to give three stars. It was still a great choice of enjoyable popcorn reading that gives you so much fun! But I wish the author would have created more tolerable hero who we don’t want to throw dart arrows at his head!

Anyways! I’m still great fan of the author and I’m looking forward to read her other stories about love in Manhattan sooner.

So many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

Made in Manhattan is such a fun story! I absolutely adored the reverse My Fair Lady premise of this book and Violet and Cain were as adorable as they were frustrating with their oil and water chemistry. Making the banter laugh-out-loud hilarious.
Just like all of Lauren Layne’s books, Made in Manhattan is full of charm, humor and incredibly fun characters. Definitely a delight to read.

Loved this! Lauren Layne owns this cute story about Violet and Cain and how you don’t have to change for someone. And yet how someone special can bring out the best changes in you that you didn’t know you needed. Loved the New York setting too. ARC given by Netgalley - thanks!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for this ARC. Violent is a well polished New Yorker who works for Edith, her adopted grandmother, at a billion dollar company. In steps Cain, a long lost grandson of Edith who needs to be prepped for the NY scene. Being from the Bayou, he is rough around the edges and Violent has been given the task of polishing those edges. If you want a cute, fun and easy read, this is a good one as all of Lauren Layne books! #MadeInManhattan #LaurenLayne #GalleryBooks #Jan2022

A quicky, easy romcom read.

Violet and Cain are fun characters, and their supporting cast is great - love Alvin! She's upper class and a bit prissy - but overcomes that and seems more down to earth in the end. He's a southern ungentleman that she's trying to corporate-ize so he can become CEO of an international company he's set to inherit from a grandmother he didn't know about.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

I always loved Lauren Layne's Central Park Pact series and had high hopes coming into this. I have a genuine love for any romances set in NYC - I think it might've had something to do with my love for Gossip Girl and SATC (both with honorable mentions in the first chapter) and knew this book was just going to be perfect as soon as I started it. Lauren Layne's formula for books has always worked in her favour so far, and this one well exceeded all my expectations.

It follows Violet, a born and bred blue blood of NYC and the expert of all things high society. She's forced to help Cale, a Louisianan man who'd just discovered that he'd inherited a multi billion dollar company, assimilate into New York society at the request of his long-lost grandmother, Violet's mentor. It's a beautiful enemies to lovers romance with the perfect amount of spice, sass and angst. Slow burns are my fave trope, and the whole opposites attract thing just speaks to me.

Made in Manhattan had the perfect balance of everything. There was enough banter to keep things light and sweet, but also had the angst that pulled at your heartstrings. I loved the chemistry between Violet and Cale from the get-go, and Edith was such a great side character. Their character arc was really well written, and I particularly enjoyed the imagery that came with living in Manhattan - get me there already :( One thing that could've been better though was the ending - I felt as if it was a bit abrupt and would've loved to see more of the two after getting together.

All in all, a very enjoyable read!

Thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Made in Manhattan is the most Lauren Layne book Lauren Layne has written so far. This book captured the essence of her other books so well, and I could literally see it was her work. If someone gave it to me without telling me a title or author, I would guess it is hers within a few chapters. She's one of my favorite authors and this one didn't disappoint.

I fell in love with Violet and Cain super fast because the tropes are perfect for them: opposites attract and enemies to lovers. Truly *chef's kiss*. I always love the combination of rough guy/soft girl (they reminded me of Piper and Brendan from It Happened One Summer so I couldn't not love them... it's the perfect combination of personalities for me). Violet was lovely and I could relate to her a bit because I, too, am a people pleaser and it's so tiring. I loved how Cain pushed her out of her comfort zone. I also liked that they inevitably hurt each other a few times but always knew when to apologize. Even though their personalities were very different, they were also the same in a lot of aspects so they were bound to clash, and I think it made the story real.

The ending was not what I expected, sadly. I'm not saying it's bad, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have taking into account how much I enjoyed the rest of the book. I still recommend it because as I said at the beginning, it's pure Lauren Layne essence, and her books are always a pleasure to read.

Thanks to the publisher for my advanced review copy!

This book was everything I’ve been looking for. Based in New York and we get to see pieces of New Orleans? I’m also absolutely obsessed with Violet and Cain. The back and forth banter, the fact that they both brought out each other’s best qualities and the slow burn romance?

The only thing that I felt was missing from the story was Cain’s pining. I would have loved to see him work for Violet’s affection a bit more.

Thank you to Gallery Books for a gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

There are certain romance authors that I know will give me easy, fast paced fluffy reads and Lauren Layne is definitely one of them. Sometimes I just want something light and Made in Manhattan was the perfect read at the perfect time. Is it my favorite book of hers? No. Is there a lot of steam? No. Is it witty? Yes! Did I enjoy the characters? Definitely! Is it worth picking up? Yes!

Made in Manhattan was an adorable, sweet, funny, and extremely enjoyable romcom. I flew through the book in one sitting - I couldn't put it down, or keep the smile from my face :). I loved the descriptions of NYC, the banter (on point as always!), the slow burn love story, and Violet's personal growth (very subtly well done throughout the entire book). I also appreciated only getting Violet's POV- that's my personal preference in romance to keep a bit of mystery surrounding the hero. I did feel like the ending was a little fast - I would have liked to see a little more from Cain as the HEA felt a little sudden (maybe because we didn't have his POV?).

I adore every book Lauren Layne writes and eagerly anticipate each new release. Made in Manhattan was a completely delightful read and I can't wait for LL's next one :)
