These is another good story by Carolyn Brown. It's about finding love when you least expect it. Wonderful characters, a big loving family, and acceptance.
Bride for a Day
by Carolyn Brown
What a sweet romance! Carolyn Brown’s Bride for a Day is a simple, but pleasing story. Cassie has had a rough life. After her mother died, she lived a dirt poor existence with her mother’s friend. When she passed away too, Cassie was left in the hands of the friend’s husband, and he is not a nice man. Sexual trafficking is the dangerous threat, but nothing graphic is discussed. When Cassie runs away, Ted, a handsome stranger in a café, pretends very convincingly to local law enforcement that she is his fiancé.
Ted’s family embraces Cassie wholeheartedly because that’s just the kind of people they are and because Cassie is gradually bringing Ted back to life again. He had never come to grips with the death of his twin brother when they were in high school.
Because this is a romance, you can imagine that what started out as a rescue mission might well turn into a friendship where sparks fly. I really enjoyed the characters. Although wealthy, Ted’s family is down to earth and supportive of each other. Even though it is clear that the setting is a small town with a quick as lightning rumor mill, the author does not dwell on that aspect. Instead, she uses it as an opportunity to demonstrate that Cassie is a strong young lady. There are some fun and surprising plot twists and a very satisfying ending. It is a quick read with lots of smiles along the way.
I would like to extend my thanks to Netgalley and to Sourcebooks (Casablanca) for giving me the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Memorable Lines:
Maria had told her that first day that breakfast was the time to set the mood for the whole day—yellow brightened the table, good food satisfied the appetite, and a loving family made the heart smile.
Ted had been dreaming of taking Cassie dancing after his boot came off and the cast on his arm, but right now he couldn’t two-step any faster than an armadillo could fly.
Evidently, she was in one of her Jesus moods, as her granny used to call them. Granny said that Cassie didn’t know what she wanted, wouldn’t want it if she got it, and Jesus himself couldn’t live with her.
Heads up to readers- quite a number of trigger warnings in this so be aware.
Bride for a Day is the story of two very young individuals who help each other learn to heal and grow. Their love was surprisingly uncomplicated considering their backgrounds and I was expecting a bit more strife. I was frustrated a little by how the subplot with her former caretaker was dealt with and managed and I had hoped for a better payout for it.
This book has been released several times. Originally published in 1997 under the title, Love is the Answer in 2014 under this title. Carolyn Brown is a go to author when you want a good old fashioned love story with strong male hero, a feisty woman with problems and a strong supporting cast. Cassie is on the run from her abusive ex-brother in law when she lands in the Arms of Ted who marries her to help protect her. She brings light into his life as he is still mourning and feeling guilty over the death of his twin brother. A good story that is fairly predictable. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This book has a sweet quality which pulls at your heart. It was heartfelt the interaction between Ted and Cassie. Basically, cowboy Ted rescue “marries” runaway Cassie from the man who sold her. This book has meddling good time folks who help Ted move forward and open his heart. I love the supportive family and friends. They make a good couple and have a great connection. This book was good -sweet romance. It is an easy flowing read. They have a sweet quality to them which pulls at your heart. I would recommend this book because this author is keeps you entertained with this enjoyable book. I look forward to her other books.
**I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.
This is a reissue/update of one of her earlier works, I really enjoyed this read. Cassie is running away from a bad situation when she meets Ted and uses him as a screen to fool the cops. When Ted's story of them eloping and she not being the girl the cops were looking for went farther than either of them expected they find themselves a newly married couple going home to his family. Sassy Cassie and Ted might rub each other the wrong way some of the time but that friction sets off sparks! Both are healing from their before life and have to figure out where they belong, should they stay married or go separate ways. Good story with humor, feels, family and love.
I loved this book, the family was amazing and so welcoming. It is about a young girl on the run from her guardian who wants to sell her for money. When she sees the police she sits with a stranger and they start talking. When questioned by the police the stranger says they we on their way to get married. There is no chance to back down because the officers offer to accompany them.
This book is a cute sweet summer read that makes you wish for a house with a double porch to spend you days on. I finished the book in 1 day it was a good escape from reality.
The family dynamic is great and the writing left a lot to the imagination. I really enjoyed this book it would be awesome for a trip to the beach.
I really wanted to like this book but sadly it was just a little flat for me; I didn't really like the 2 main characters & the whole storyline seemed a bit far fetched
Sadly not for me
Bride for a Day is a quick, clean read about a girl on the run to start a new life who ends up married to a stranger. Cassie and Ted meet by accident and he helps her at just the right moment. This is a sweet story that is all about opening yourself up to love. If you are into cowboys and small towns this might be for you.

Cassie is on the run from her foster parent. She meets Ted and, panicking, she asks him to pretend they know each other. One thing leads to another and they end up married.
I’m a fan of the fake dating trope and the small town setting so I knew I was likely going to enjoy the story, and I did. The story itself is charming and a quick read.
Both protagonists are well written and relatable; I particularly liked Cassie, her strength and determination. I would have appreciated a little more romance and chemistry between the two of them.
I liked Ted’s family and how they want to help a stranger in need.
At times, the story felt a little rushed and I did think the protagonist were a little too young compared to the decisions they made, but it was still a quick, clean and sweet story.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an Advanced Reader Copy of this ebook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a fun book with great characters and I really enjoyed it. The dialogue was witty and the characters were hilarious. It was a funny book but touching as well. If you are looking for a book with heart and great dialogue this is the book for you.
Quick short story, full of hilarious moments and unthinkable scenes, Bride for a day is the perfect read for anyone on the lookout for a beautiful once in a lifetime chance romance.
I really liked the fictional story because I doubt in reality this would happen in our today’s time. Or I just have a lot of trust issues but that’s totally on me. I wouldn’t have Cassie’s courage to escape my life the way she did and get married “just for one day” with the first stranger I would met on my way to a new life.
She’s brilliant and the chemistry and their relationship was very interesting to see evolving. Great secondary characters as well.
Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley
Bride for A Day by Carolyn Brown is a typical Brown romance. Cassie is on the run. Her mother had died and she had gone to live with a couple, Cecil and Deana that her mother had chosen. She had a scholarship to go to school to become a nurse. Them Deana got sick and Cassie nursed her, until her last day. That night Cecil had tried to crawl into her bed. She had to leave. She took her grandmother's wedding ring set and the clothing she could stuff into a black pack and took off. She knew Cecil would come after her so her best bet was to stay away from public transportation. She was in the bathroom at a cafe, hiding from the police she knew were looking for her. She took a deep breath and went back into the cafe, spied a young man sitting, sat down and prayed. Help me! and Ted did. Not only did he claim to know her, but he told the police she was his fiancée and that they had run away to get married. As luck would have it, the cop knew his dad and arranged a license, a wedding, and a motel room for the honeymoon. They were married and on their way to his home, where his uncle could get them a annulment.
These were kids, only twenty years old. His family was there for him and for her. They got her a job in his uncle, the doctor's office; they gave her a room. Being married got him a big refund on his taxes and he bought her a car. Watching them get to know one another and fall in love was as heart-warming as it gets. Watching his family come together for them and knowing why, brought tears to my eyes. This is family. Brown has done a wonderful job putting family in to words. They grew up, they wanted to be married. They had all the support in the world. What a terrific happily-ever-after.

Bride For A Day by Carolyn Brown
In trying to escape her abusive guardian, Cassie stumbles into the man of her dreams, Ted. When the sheriff starts to question Cassie, she grabs Ted’s hand and denies being the person they are looking for. Instead, she claims that she and Ted are engaged. Who is Ted to argue with Cassie, the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. This, however, prompts the sheriff to help the couple along and somehow they are “hitched” before either of them can think of a way to politely escape their pending nuptials.
This book was such a joy to read. Do you believe in love at first sight? Do you believe that God puts people in your path for a reason? Is it possible that both Cassie and Ted can help each other overcome their pasts and have a real future together?
Carolyn Brown writes country charm and cowboy romance like few others. It was with utter fascination I discovered she was reissuing her very first published books she wrote as Abby Gray. Eager to check out one of her first efforts, I dove into this engaging small town romance.
Cassie O’Malley is a young woman, reared in the foster system and running away from her loser guardian who was attempting to sell her to human traffickers. When he couldn’t get her back, he sicced the law on her by reporting her as a thief. Naturally, she is scared and gets jittery when she gets off the bus in a small town and encounters the local sheriff in the diner. She latches onto a young cowboy sitting nearby to pretend they’re together and astoundingly, he plays along even to a visit to the courthouse to give her a sort term marriage to protect her. Cassie has never encountered such a place and finds herself fitting in for the first time in her life with a family and a friendly town. Ted is pretty great, too. Too bad it’s temporary, or is it?
Ted Wellman is young, but he is certain a relationship and marriage is not in the cards for him since he is convinced that his heart is out of reach after his brother died. But, he’s not beyond playing the cowboy version of Sir Galahad to a scared young woman. He’s not worried about putting a ring on it because his uncle is a lawyer and will get it annulled when the time comes. However, his big quirky family of Wellmans have other ideas when they catch sight of Cassie and, if he’s honest, he’s not that eager to end it, either.
Bride for a Day front loads most of the excitement in that all the big moments do seem to happen in the first third of the book. In fact, some issues just seem to fade away. Then it settles into that easy, gently-paced country life and slow burn loving I’m used to from the author’s books. It was a forgone conclusion where things would end up and I was happy to go along with it. Cassie, Ted, his fun family and the town were easily lovable and I was having fun seeing his family determine Cassie was a good thing for Ted and do their darnedest to make it happen. Ted just had to acknowledge that his grief and loss from the past really didn’t stop him from loving a good woman and Cassie had to do a clean out of her past, too.
So, easy-going and light entertainment in this cowboy romance. Those who don’t mind the less dramatic and gentle-pacing of a country small town setting and characters should definitely slip this one into the reading pile.
I've already read this book. It was a reissue of another book so I stopped reading when I figured that out. I love all of CB's books so I'm sure this was no exception. It was slow to get started which is why I remembered it.
This is a Romance. This book is all about a young lady that is on the ran, Cassie and Ted a young country boy that is trying to move on after his twin brother died. Ted married Cassie to save her, but this book is more about them saving each other. I love the story line/plot, and the characters are so much fun. I loved the characters in this book, and the family was everything. This book was easy to read and was a fast read. I did not want to put this book down, and I also did not want this book to end. I did find the beginning a little bit confusing. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Sourcebooks Casablanca) or author (Carolyn Brown) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Bride for a Day by Carolyn Brown is a sweet story about a runaway who finds safety, a family who accepts her and falls in love. Cassie is on the run from the man you raised her the past few years, Cecil, when she discovered he sold her to a sex trafficking ring. Now Cecil has the police looking for her claiming she stole from him and is mentally unstable. When she gets cornered by the police she turns to a young man in a diner, pretending to be with him. Ted, a young country boy closed off emotionally after his twin brother died and struggling to move on, realizes what is going on and plays along with her. One thing leads to another and through a comedy of small town meddling, they end up married; temporarily, or so they think. While they wait to get an annulment Cassie stays with Ted and his family; helping him recover from his loss. Spending time with Ted’s family, Cassie starts putting down roots, and grows closer to them. It might have started out with Ted saving Cassie, but they actually end up saving each other.
Ms Brown wrote a delightful and sweet story filled with chemistry, supportive family, and clever banter that should not be missed. I highly recommend Bride for a Day to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Bride for a Day is a classic Carolyn Brown story. It has a strong and if you ask Ted a stubborn young woman with a cowboy who wants to help. Cassie and Ted meet by accident with his helping her at just the right moment as she is fleeing from a horrible situation which could get much more dire. Ted needs just as much help as Cassie but he would never say it. His loving family knows it al too well still they welcome Cassie with open arms.
I so enjoyed this sweet story that is all about family, opening yourself up to others and love. It is fiction at its finest. Could this story happen. Perhaps it is difficult to believe that people can be this good but I see it all around me in my small town. While not a Christian book as such it is one with some of those values in the everyday life of the people involved. It renews your belief in others and the goodness in this world.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
