“We find mates who bring out the worst in us: a partner is sent by the universe as a character test, to expose what you’re really made of.”
I don't know if I've ever hated a book as much as this one. I immediately started trying to forget it. I only kept reading it because I thought there's no way it could continue being so faux pretentious and grody but alas. The first essay was a quirky and relatable one about the strain social distancing puts on our relationships, both near and far, but the other three collapsed into pure self-indulgence and sweeping conclusions I did not agree with. I found myself frequently cringing over her stipulations about assault and consent.
