Kamila Knows Best by Farah Heron is a delightful and lighthearted romance that will captivate fans of contemporary romance, particularly those who adore Bollywood-inspired stories, friends-to-lovers tropes, and witty humor, making it a perfect fit for readers seeking a feel-good, hopeful, and humorous tale of self-discovery and love.
I’m really late to the game on this one, but I sadly did not connect with this story. I loved the cultural aspect but I could not connect with the FMC in this one. I loved all the talk of food and family and friends who become family! This was my first Farah Haron book, and I would consider trying another of her books in the future.
Great book. I enjoyed Reading it. The characters and plot were interesting life like and easy to connect with.
This was amazing. The book flowed so well and the characters were all so amazing. I loved the way Janna and Kamila became such close friends through the second half of the book. I loved this one.
I have been between like and love on every Farah Heron book I've read and Kamila Knows Best is no exception. I am a sucker for a Jane Austen remake, and I rarely feel like I find one that does Emma justice. It's just hard to do. Kamila (Emma) is soooooo hard to root for in the beginning. It really pulls me out of the story in any remake I've read. This is by no means a direct reflection of Heron and her writing, it's just a personal opinion. I think the biggest place this book suffered for me was the enormous cast of characters. I found myself asking WHO? the whole time. Overall the pace was fine and the story was good, but a few things fell flat for me.
Farah Heron's work just warms my heart.
Kamila Knows Best is no different.
A good friends-to-lovers story with the right amount of angst and longing is hard to find, but Heron masterfully tells a fun and entertaining story about two friends navigating an exciting life together. I loved witnessing their relationship evolve over time in the context of some fun situations. This is the perfect blend of light and weighty for a rom com, which is also hard to find.
I look forward to reading more from this author!
Thank you Forever Pub for my gifted copy.
It was an ok read but from the start I kind of knew it wasn’t really for me because I just couldn’t connect with Kamila in fact from the start she irritated me so it’s really just a me problem but it wasn’t a bad story. Just hard to get through when you don’t like the main character.
I have been a fan of Faron Heron since I first read “Accidentally Engaged” in April 2021, and have enjoyed all of her books since. Including this one, loosely based on “Emma” by Jane Austen featuring a young woman Kamila focused on her career and her busy social life (which includes matchmaking her friends). Enter her longtime nemesis Jana (who appears in the next book) who starts flirting with Rohan, and suddenly she can’t see him as just a friend anymore. While I can’t quite relate to Kamila’s type A personality and outgoing nature, I can relate to her care and worry for her father. I also really enjoyed her weekly Bollywood watch party scenes and the descriptions of the food, plus the Puppy Prom planning. I enjoyed this one for its humor and was cheering on Kamila throughout. If you’re looking for some romance, I encourage you to pick this one up. Thank you to Forever Publishing and Netgalley for the advanced e-copy.
"Kamila Knows Best" by Farah Heron is a contemporary romance novel that, while carrying the author's signature charm, left me struggling to connect with the characters and ultimately finish the book.
The story revolves around Kamila, a headstrong and independent protagonist who finds herself entangled in a web of family expectations, cultural traditions, and the complexities of modern romance. The narrative attempts to blend humour, artistic exploration, and romance as she navigates the challenges of love, identity, and societal expectations.
Despite Heron's usual flair for creating diverse and authentic characters, I needed help to resonate with Kamila and the supporting cast. The well-developed characters lacked the depth or relatability that I have come to expect from Heron's previous works. The protagonist's decisions and motivations felt somewhat contrived, making it challenging for me to invest in her journey fully.
While Farah Heron's previous novels skillfully explored cultural nuances and familial dynamics within the context of contemporary romance, "Kamila Knows Best" fell short of capturing the same level of authenticity. The artistic elements, while present, did not weave seamlessly into the narrative, leaving me wishing for a more integrated and nuanced exploration of Kamila's cultural identity.
On a positive note, Heron's writing style remains engaging and laced with humour. The dialogue is witty, and the author's ability to infuse fun into serious situations shines through. However, the strengths of the writing could only partially compensate for the challenges I encountered with character connection and pacing.
Quirky characters, and a dog! I love that this author is Canadian. A perfect rom-com that also showcases mental health.
She's done it again folks. I absolutely adore everything that I have read from Farah Heron. This book is no different. Absolutely loved Kamilla, her personality, her spanking, and her character!
Despite not being the biggest Austen fan, I found myself relatively enjoying this book. It has to be the Clueless references that were the saving grace. The book felt a little childish, but that definitely seems correct when Clueless was about a bunch of highschool students. The late 20s characters in this novel should probably have grown up by now, but alas, I still enjoyed reading my first novel by Heron. Will definitely check out more.
Why did I wait so long to read this one! Farah Heron does it again. This was a great read that captured my attention immediately. Could not put it down.
This was so much more then a romance - complicated family relationships, secrets from friends, falling in love with a best friend. I loved the description of the Bollywood nights and food!
Highly recommend.
I really like this author but this book was a little much for me. A lot was going on and I'm not a fan of the classics so I think that it being a remake made it even harder for me to really get that into it or the characters.
I loved this book so much. I couldn't put it down. It was such a sweet and emotional love story. I enjoyed learning more about a different culture and the side characters added so much more to it.
I've enjoyed Farah Heron's other books, and this one is no exception! The banter between Kamila and Rohan was great, and I especially loved the tension between family and what they want for themselves. I also related with Kamila in SO MANY ways, and everything coming out about her sister was so entertaining as well. Overall just a really great/fun read.
I really wasn't sure what I would think of this book. I'm all for a good rom-com, but not the biggest fan of many romances. This, to me had a rom-com feel and I'm glad I read it. It was hard to put down, read it in two days. It was fun and easy and Kamila and Rohan had a great chemistry!
Farah Heron's writing style is engaging, witty, and infused with cultural nuances. Her descriptions of food, fashion, and family traditions immerse the reader in the vibrant world she has created. The dialogue is sharp and authentic, capturing the essence of the characters and their relationships. Well done!
This is my second novel by Heron and I look forward to many more from her.

Thank you Forever and NetGalley for the ARC of Kamila Knows Best! All opinions in this review are my own.
As a romance, I didn't love this one. I think it was the slowest burn that I have ever read. However, I did love it as a friendship novel. Kamila has an amazing group of friends and I love the parties that she throws! I also liked that it explored how Kamila felt like she had to do everything and the toll that it took on her. Not my favorite romance, but a great novel in its own right!
