Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this eARC to review. Sadly the content within this book is not good for my mental health which I did not realise at the time so I am very sorry for that! I will give this 3 Stars as I couldn't review it properly. Apologies again!
Very informative book. Full of a lot of useful information. This book will also be very useful for future reference
Out of at least 3+ books I have read that delve into the world of intention with mixology, Moon, Magic, Mixology by Julia Halina Hadas has moved easily to the top of the list. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, it reads smoothly and simply in easy-to-understand terms. Secondly, the writer breaks things down into building blocks before getting into the recipes. For example, she discusses spirits in a way I haven't considered but make perfect sense! But of course rum would be used to sweeten things up as it is derived from sugar cane. Bourbon would be rich in ancestral work and vodka would be a good choice for cleansing and clarity. These are concepts I hadn't thought of but make perfect sense once read. From there, she talks about barware and then onto moon phases.
Once into recipes, she includes a chapter on bitters. I am a huge fan of adding bitters to drinks, so this was a chapter I wil refer back to again and again (and I'm especially looking forward to rhubarb season this year!).
I am happy to own a copy of this book and it is one of my go-to choices for gifting with a few nips and drinkware.
Many thanks to Netgally and Adams Media for an ARC. I couldn't wait to add the physical book to my collection and did so once release date came. All opinions expressed are authentically my own.
So I don't think I have ever seen a book like this before. It is really interesting. It starts by explaining the different kinds of liquor. Then it talks about the different moon phases, the different kinds of yeah and the 8 Celtic holidays.
The goes into the different ways the moon effects the zodiac and different spices and crystal and what they are typically used for.
I like that it gives recipes for every part of the drinks including the syrups. They are all easy to follow and can give someone the at home bartender feeling. Each drink gives and explanation, what signs in moon and what energies are best for them. But they all look like yummy drinks for year round.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I don't drink very often, but I do like a cocktail now and again. I love the moon and the power it brings. I love the names of the cocktails and drinks in this book. It was cool that there were drinks for the zodiac signs. I will try and make some of these at some point. They sound amazing.
So I've always been curious about witchcraft, especially when it comes to pulling magic from the moon or plants, so when I saw Moon, Magic, Mixology my interest was immediately peaked. So When I opened it up, I expected a cocktail recipe book, but this is so much more. Hadas provides so much information in this book, that at first it was a little overwhelming but I came to appreciate her taking the time to explain the magic behind Lunar cocktails and how it elevates them.
Overall, if you like cocktails and are interested in lunar witchcraft this is definitely a must have
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. Right off the bat, I really thought this book cover was pretty. It's minimalistic but still eye-catching. I wouldn't normally look for something like this, but I was drawn to it by the cover and the fact that the publisher often publishes very high quality books!
In this, there are 70-something cocktails. They have a unique theme of moon phases. They are designed to help modern moon lovers celebrate the moon and are lunar inspired. They utilize things like crystals, candles, herbs, aromatherapy, medications, etc. to help infuse drinks.
Alongside recipes, there are photographs and other designs. I think these are my favorite part of the cookbook.
Despite not participating in these sort of rituals or beliefs, I think that this cookbook would be perfect for those who do. It meets all sorts of requirements for good cookbooks: really great pictures, unique theme, nice artistic and eye catching layout. Straight forward instructions. All things are met here, and I really would suggest that to people who fit the target audience of this book.
Moon, Magic, Mixology is a perfect combination of the mystical, magical and alcoholic. It took the art of cocktail concoction and added a witchy twist. This book is perfect for anybody fascinated by magic and the mystical arts. I’m very anxious to begin trying some of the recipes listed!
Are you someone who likes to make every part of your life magickal? Well this book will make a wonderful addition to your collection. Why not make your cocktail more magickal? This book is full of wonderful recipes.
I really liked the descriptions and back story for the different drinks and reasons for the making of them but the drinks require a few to many unusual ingredients for me to recommend this for a library. Personal use would be great, if you can put your hands on said ingredients.
Well written and comprehensive directions through out.
This has something for everyone and is presented in such a fun, unique way! Definitely a great holiday gift for the baristas, mixologists, and astrologers in your life.
I was interested in previewing this title to see if it would be appropriate for my library's ya collection. It includes alcoholic recipes, which I should have assumed, but sometimes mixology doesn't always so I thought I would see. This title would not be appropriate for the ya crowd but adults may appreciate it.
It is a nice little addition to those wanting to add something like this into their practice or workings with the moon or add to a celebration. Some moon introductory information and then drinks divided into the seasons - which is cool.
Super cool. Way more information than I was expecting. I assumed this would be a fun book on seasonal drinks and I was so wrong. Lots of moon information and how it is throughout the year. Also information on different crystals and edible elements. That’s all before you get to the first drink. Not your typical drink book. They are not only beautiful, they sound so good. I can’t wait to try a bunch of them.
This book offers a comprehensive look at how the moon and its various phases influences so many aspects of our lives. It explores all of the phases of the moon, including supermoons, eclipses, and blue moons, to name a few.
There are a variety of drink recipes offered, linked to different moons throughout the year, as well as recipes for making the different ingredients to create these beverages. Some of them are simple to make, while others are a bit more involved, with ingredients that aren't as easily found in my pantry. But overall, the instructions are easy to follow.
The drinks themselves sound delicious and look beautiful. I've bookmarked quite a few of the drinks, and will definitely be making them as soon as I can. I would have liked for there to be more pictures of the drinks, especially since the ones that are pictured are absolutely beautiful, and I tend to like to know what it should look like, so I know that I've made it correctly. There's a comprehensive index at the back, sorted by ingredients, what moon phase and traits they're linked to, and a list of sources that the author used. Overall, this is intriguing blend of witchcraft and common ingredients, combined to create delicious beverages that anyone can enjoy - especially since many of the drinks also include non-alcoholic substitutions.
This ebook ARC was sent to me in exchange for an honest review. I loved that the book not only contained recipes, but also took the time to explain different moon phases and had drinks related to different zodiac signs. The drinks listed in this drink were delicious, gorgeous, and they were perfect for our Halloween Party. The drinks listed in this book would be perfect for any event, especially if those attending were moon/ zodiac lovers like myself. The book will be a perfect addition to a coffee table or kitchen for décor and reference. I will definitely be buying a physical copy of this book for myself and as a gift for a few friends. I highly recommend this book.
I was thrilled when I saw that Julia Halina Hadas was coming out with another book of magical libations. As with the first, this one takes the complication and the fear out of making your own cocktails at home. Full of more delicious and unique cocktails for the witchy crowd, this one puts an emphasis on the various cycles of the moon throughout the year. Ranging from drinks for every full moon, new moon, and more. Again, I find myself prepping some variety of syrup to make myself a delicious drink, which was conjured up from the magnificent mind of Julia Halina Hadas. I can't wait to add a physical copy of this to my library.
Thank you to Netgalley, Adams Media, and Julia Halina Hadas for providing me with an eARC of this book, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Part bartender's handbook, part guide to modern astrology, part witchcraft practical -- this is not one to miss! This book has a huge wealth of information to provide, not just for those practicing the craft, but for anyone looking to add a new twist to their celebrations (or cozy drinks with friends, either works). I absolutely love this book, and it will be one to keep on my bookshelf at home for years to come.
What a magical book. I am always intrigued by ingredient or method specific cookbooks and this ticked all the boxes. Crafting infusions with care to make curated cocktails or mocktails is something I very much appreciate! All of the information provided was fascinating and to-the-point in the best way. I adored this and will definitely recommend it to many!
ARC review:
This was an interesting read. Lots of information on the moon, moon cycles, uses of the ingredients. Very sharp photos of all of the drinks. Love the details in this one. It is both classy and educational. Cheers to the moon!
