LOVED IT!!! Thats all I can say really. It is so fast paced with so much going on that it completely sweeps you away. I dont think more twists could have been packed into this story but it still doesn't make it too over the top or farcical, it just makes it brilliant

This was a thriller that went from twist to twist and more twists and with some really unexpected ones at that it was full of surprises.
So we have a hostage situation with a psychopath at the helm in a radio station threatening to kill a hostage every hour if his demands are not dealt with but this is no straight forward kind of a plot at and not everything is as it first seems. I must admit this was no easy read as at times so much was going on and with all the twists I had to reread some parts a few times to get things straight in my head.
The writing was spot on and the characters were excellent, interesting and flawed.
The book was one that took some getting into but then became completely engrossing and led to one hell of a good ending that was both clever and satisfying.
So a book I enjoyed it was different and very involved and would highly recommend it .
My thanks to NetGalley and Head of Zeus for gIrving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

The storyline intrigued me and I was excited to get to read a book with such good reviews after being translated into English.

I will say the translation was fantastic I don’t feel like I missed anything of the story at all by it being translated from German to English.

The story started well with a love story, a mysterious tragedy that wasn’t what it seemed, a mad man with a radio station of hostages and a suicidal alcoholic hostage negotiator - I mean what could go wrong hey!!

I found the storyline of Ira Samin tragic and interesting and I really wanted to find out about her but also getting to the bottom why Jan was taking everyone hostage was interesting as well.

Three quarters of the book had me hooked but it got a bit off track for me and there were conspiracies and theories and who dunnits all over the place. Although I did enjoy the majority of the book the amount of extra twists that were crammed into the last 30% got a bit out of hand. It lost something for me but overall I found it mostly entertaining and very well written and translated.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, the translator and Head of Zeus for an advanced copy for my honest review.

This book is good! It's very good. Just when I thought I had it all figured out I was stumped again. From the first page to the last it grips. And it holds you tight until the very last page.

A man has forced himself into a popular Berlin radio station, where he makes a demand, live, on air. He randomly calls phone numbers, one every hour forcing the person on the other end to play a bizarre game; if they refuse, a hostage will be killed. The “game” will only stop when his fiancee if brought to him. That’s a big problem, because she’s dead. Psychologist Ira Samin in brought in to negotiate with the hostage taker, liv, on air. Dealing with a psychopath along with cops who aren’t giving her the whole truth, she has to use every ounce of her training and skill to avoid a very public bloodbath

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and I raced through this book in a day.

The book starts with a phone call between a man and his fiance. His fiance tells him not to believe what is going to come next......the door goes.....the police are there......and tell him that, sadly, his fiance died an hour ago in a car crash.......

What an excellent start to a novel and it definitely had me hooked from then on......

Eight months later, the same man is holding up a radio station with hostages and is demanding that the authorities bring him his fiance.... but how can they when the records show she died 8 months ago......

So begins a brilliant, exciting and powerful novel that is part non stop exciting, edge of the seat, thriller, but also a powerful tale of loss, grief, love, suicide and pain...

Would definitely recommend to everyone looking for a novel which will excite you and also tug at your heart strings.

Thanks to Head of Zues and Netgalley for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review
