The cover and title are what completely drew me in. This book ended up having one of my favorite things (short chapters) but they were actually too short which led to the story not flowing well and feeling pretty choppy. I didn’t connect with the author’s sense of humor a lot of the time either but I’m still glad I read this. Thanks so much to NetGalley and HarperOne for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
It takes a special writer to make anxiety humorous if not downright funny. But offbeat British author, TV producer and writer Georgia Pritchett is that special. Told in snappy vignettes, this memoir is fun and poignant in its approach to a life lived with anxiety, which she describes as an "inside-out tornado." Childhood family stories, school stories, dating, children, and the life of a writer are all framed around showcasing how anxiety can plague the mind with each encounter, unbidden but present nonetheless. My Mess is a Bit of a Life: Adventures in Anxiety is a must read.
My Mess is a Bit of a Life is intriguing, hilarious, sad, and addictive. This is an author to add to my list.
I chose this strictly based on the title. It's a great title! This was quite funny and touching throughout. Georgia is a natural storyteller.
