Coming after the success of the Bridgerton series on Netflix this is a wonderful reminder of the brilliance of the novels upon which it is based. This is a quote book from Bridgerton books with focus on each of the main characters. The characters include: Anthony, Kate, Benedict, Colin, Penelope, Daphne, Simon, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, Hyacinth, Violet and Lady Danbury. This is not a character sketch and no background is given. A quote from Lady Whistledown starts off each character. If you don't know the eight children are alphabetized A-H, with Kate, Simon and Penelope being spouses. Violet is the matriarch of the family and Lady Danbury a delightful, aged matchmaker.
This book is for fans of the novels. Full disclosure, I've read all of the novels, each books additional epilogues (that were published later) and other series by the author. I'm the kind of person who would love to read this or receive it as a gift. It really makes you appreciate the warmth and humor of Julia Quinn. Reading through the quotes in an afternoon I was instantly back in the stories and enjoying the family interactions. I would have dearly loved some new content like Violet's story when the 2nd epilogues were combined for The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After. Reading this makes me want to go back and re-read the series from start to end. Thank you NetGalley, Avon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
It’s been three years since I’ve read the Bridgerton books and of course I watched and enjoyed the Bridgerton series. I’m a fan, but I think this book is for the Super Fan. It is divided by family member with quotes from the character and the book it came from. Following this are quotes from the family about the character. Example… Hyacinth according to her family… I can see picking up the book from the nightstand and reading a few paragraphs each night. Reading it through like a novel was boring. It did bring back memories of the books and I’m looking forward to the second season of Bridgerton!
I just adore all things Bridgerton! And this little books is full of all the wonderful quips and witticisms that are sprinkled throughout Julia Quinn's novels. There is an abundance of good advice and even delicious snark (especially from Lady Danbury), that readers will delight in coming back to. I don't think I realized how witty the Bridgerton series is until I read this condensed "advice" novella. It just might inspire you to re-read the series and enjoy all the conversations between this cast of delightful characters.
This is the perfect gift to give anyone who has enjoyed Bridgerton--be it the books or the tv show. It takes the little snips and retorts that the characters say throughout the all of the Bridgerton books and puts them in one place. What makes these books so fun to read are the quick witted remarks, short retorts and true love sentiments. I love the humor that Julia Quinn so easily captures in her characters words. Not a point of hurtfulness, but showing intelligence in their quick responses to something that might otherwise be unsavory.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Harper Voyager for the advanced e-reader copy in return for my honest review.
Submitting review to IG post 10/5/21 and will review book on week of publication week to Amazon and BN.
This book is a compilation of excerpts of the Bridgerton series. I found it quite amusing.. it was great to be reminded of the characters and their interactions.
The book is meant to be a short overview of all the main characters in the books and to highlight some of the things that make each character unique. The quotes and scenes that Julia Quinn selected were perfect for doing just that. Quick, entertaining, and enjoyable, especially for fans of Bridgerton.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for the ARC.

The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is a collection of quotes about many of the characters in the Bridgerton books and series. The book starts with an insightful introduction where Julia Quinn offers an interesting perspective on the Bridgerton family and the Netflix show. After that, the book is split into chapters that highlight fun quotes and moments from the book series. Moments are included from all 8 books.
I would absolutely recommend this book to fans of the show or novels. Fans of the books will love this book because it feels like going back to visit old friends. It was also really nice to read the new Lady Whistledown introductions. I love Julia Quinn. I’ve read everything that she has ever written, and I was really looking forward to new Bridgerton content.
I really enjoyed reading this, but I wish the Lady Whistledown passages had a bit more information. The author could have included a new story about the character that didn’t hurt the plot. The introductions were nice, but they didn’t feel very new. Additionally, I’m not sure why Simon, Kate, and Penelope were the only spouses included. It would have been nice to include the others since so much other content beyond book 2 of the series.
I was invited to read an ARC of The Wit and Wisdom of Bridgerton, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley #TheWitandWisdomofBridgerton
This is a great collection of favorite quotes and vignettes from the world of Bridgerton. A great guide to new readers or people who fell in love with the characters decades ago, this book has short clips from each character's books and lives to give you a more full look at the people they are and their stories. Anthony will always be my favorite and Kate is my spirit animal, so I adored their chapters. Great for new and old fans, this book has little to no new text.
If you are a fan of the Bridgerton book series, this one is for you. I can see this becoming a must have in every fans shelf. I loved being able to have a collection of all of my favorite quotes and moments from all of my favorite characters.
The best surprise was that *SPOILER ALERT* there is a new entry from LADY WHISTLEDOWN!! I felt like I was reading a BTS on the next installment :)
I would only recommend this book if you are already a fan of the series, since you need to be very familiar with the previous works! I was a little disappointed because based on the title, I was under the impression it would be mostly new content and some inside look at the inner workings of Lady Whistledown. This basically felt like a kitschy spark notes!
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
So much fun. I love Julia Quinn since before the tv show and this book really highlights her writing.
I love the Bridgerton books. They are truly foundational texts for me as a person and as a romance reader, and reading this compendium of quotes from the eight books felt like looking at a family photo album of my own family. In addition to these quotes by and about each of the characters, we also get a new Lady Whistledown entry about each character (new Bridgerton content!!!). The page design is beautiful, and the writing is entertaining as ever. In addition to sections on each member of the Bridgerton family, we get Kate, Penny, Simon, and Lady Danbury. I would have loved Sophie, Phillip, Michael, Gareth, and Lucy, but I realize that's a lot to ask!
This is a book for lovers of the books. While there is some reference to the show in the introduction, this book is absolutely about the books. It was such a nostalgic joy to read. And now I have to go reread all of the Bridgerton books for the 80th time!
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC.
Thank you so much to Avon for the advance copy of the book- I literally squealed when I got it! I am a huge Bridgeton fan- watched the show, read all the books, and am going to a Bridgeton "experience" in the spring. This is the perfect thing to hold any member of the ton ;) over into the next season is released!
This was a lovely addition to the world of Bridgerton for the fans. I so enjoyed seeing all the pieces of these characters through the author's eyes. And honestly, it just made me want to read the next generation of Bridgertons!
I have a large number of books that need to be read before this one is published, but I couldn’t resist diving back into the world of the Bridgertons. I loved the Netflix series and I read all the books in January (and have since reread Viscount Who Loved Me because it is my favorite) so I know my Bridgertons. This book acts as a companion to the Bridgerton series providing a snapshot of each member of the Bridgerton family as well as a few of their spouses and close associates. The characters covered are Anthony, Kate, Benedict, Colin, Penelope, Daphne, Simon, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, Hyacinth, Violet, and Lady Danbury.
It should be made clear that this book is not for those who have not read the books. That being said there are no big spoilers revealed in this book, but those who have not read the books will be missing a lot of context. While this may be marketed as a character guide, it does not provide any summaries of the featured characters’ stories, rather it has a brief introduction via an entry from Lady Whistledown and then quotes pulled from the various Bridgerton books featuring the character. I believe that the Lady Whistledown entries at the beginning of each chapter are new, but the quotes are pulled directly from the Bridgerton series (with a few edits changing some pronouns to names to improve context). There is no additional information provided about the character or any insights about writing the characters / series from Julia Quinn. It really is a quote book.
I personally really enjoyed the book. It was a really quick read that I read in one sitting. I enjoyed being back in the world of Bridgerton. Several of the quotes chosen I remembered from when I read the books. More than anything the book was a reminder of the great writing ability of Julia Quinn and the humor and heart found throughout the Bridgerton series. When it is published I will have to look at a physical copy because I’m intrigued with how the passages will be presented. The eBook proof I received had some varying shades of text as well as formatting markers that will make more sense when published. Like I said, I really enjoyed this book, but I do wish that there would have been more new content (similar to the second epilogues).
