This is a unique book and I really like the take on Norse mythology and how they created a whole universe in just a few short chapters at the beginning!
The FMC is strong and persistent almost to a fault and I can see how she is going to make a great heroine in the later books!
At the end of the book, it just wasn’t really for me. There wasn’t enough “fire” in the FMC, nor enough action to make up for the lack of spice. I would recommend this for those who just purely want a fantasy book focused on Norse mythology and a heroines journey.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
I loved absolutely everything in this book. Sigrid’s bravery, her determination to better her life, Hestur’s undeniable abilities. How Mariam with time started to trust more and more Sigrid. Their journey was very dangerous and hard. But the more will come.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a FF, YA, sapphic fantasy then you’re going to love it.
I had been wanting to read this for a long time and I’m happy to say it did not disappoint! I’m always a huge fan of a Norse story and it was a fun read with all the right kind of vibes. I enjoyed the flow of the story and there were some twists that I didn’t see coming!
Sigrid is a stable hand for the junior valkyries, but all she has wanted her whole life is to be one of them. When her world falls under attack one day, she thinks this is her opportunity to prove her worth and join the fight. She tries to stop an enemy valkyrie, Miriam, from stealing the Eye, bringing it back to Helheim and into the wrong hands. When she accidentally grabs onto the Eye in the fight, it shows her a vision of a greater destiny, and she must rely on Miriam and a trickster night elf she meets along the way, Fisk, to help her get to Helheim to fulfill it. Little does she know that when she gets there, she might actually be fulfilling a more sinister destiny to unleash the dead upon the nine worlds.
Sigrid learns much about herself during this adventure from who she is, what she wants in life, and what is really most important to her, so there is lots of character development throughout. There is also quite a bit of character development with Miriam in that she is a different person in the end from who we meet at the beginning. Let's not forget about Fisk, as his confidence grows with his newfound friendships.
There is plenty of action throughout this epic adventure, and the author did a great job with the world building. The ending leaves it open for the story to continue on, and I can't wait to see what our hero and her friends are up to next in book two.
Just finished The Valkyrie's Daughter, and I am absolutely hooked! This book was an epic rollercoaster of action, emotion, and mythological intrigue. The world-building was phenomenal, and the characters were so well-developed that I felt completely immersed in their journey. The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat, and the ending? It left me gasping and desperate for the next book!
I can’t wait to see where the story goes next—it’s safe to say I’ll be pre-ordering the sequel the second it’s announced. If you love fierce heroines, Norse mythology, and a story that stays with you long after you turn the last page, The Valkyrie's Daughter is an absolute must-read!
Tiana Warner’s “The Valkyrie's Daughter” is a breathtaking and empowering start to a thrilling fantasy series. With its vivid world-building, fierce heroine, and deep ties to Norse mythology, this book is an absolute page-turner from beginning to end.
The pacing is perfectly balanced, seamlessly blending fast-paced action with quieter, introspective moments that allow the characters and their relationships to shine. Warner keeps readers hooked with unexpected twists, building tension that crescendos into an unforgettable climax.
At the heart of the story is an unforgettable protagonist, whose determination, wit, and courage make her instantly relatable and inspiring. Her journey of self-discovery and her relentless pursuit of her dreams, despite the odds, create a narrative filled with emotional depth and authenticity. The relationships she forges—whether built on loyalty, conflict, or tentative trust—are beautifully developed and bring added richness to the story.
Warner’s world-building is exceptional, immersing readers in a vibrant realm of gods, mortals, and mythical creatures. The attention to detail in the settings, magic, and Valkyrie lore creates a fully realized universe that feels both timeless and fresh.
“The Valkyrie’s Daughter” is a triumphant tale of resilience, destiny, and the courage to defy expectations. Tiana Warner delivers a story that resonates with readers of all ages, leaving them eager for the next chapter in this epic adventure. Highly recommended for fans of strong heroines, Norse mythology, and immersive fantasy. This is a book that will stay with you long after the final page.
Thank you NetGalley and entangled publishing for the arc. I loved the Norse mythology and it really helps give more depth to the characters. Both outsiders one on a road to redemption and the other following fates path. The story touches on lgbtq and gives readers a chance to explore and learn about that journey as well. Overall a wonderful story
The Valkyries Daughter is a fun adventure following Sigrid on her journey to find her destiny. While I enjoyed the overall story and the author’s take on Norse mythology, I found the protagonist a bit annoying and whiney. I also feel like the romance wasn’t truly developed as much as I would like to have seen.
Thank you to Entangled Teen for e-copy of Valkyrie’s Daughter!
3.5 stars!!
YA Norse fantasy with a sapphic romance.
This was my first introduction to this author and this series as a whole. I am interested to see where this series goes in the coming books.
This was a quick and entertaining read, and the writing style was easy to follow. I enjoyed following Siri’s through her journey and watching her growth.
As someone who is Scandinavian, this book interested me just from the title. And I ended up really enjoying it. I love an underdog story, enjoyed the world building, and was quite captivated with the story.
Sensational YA novel with Norse mythology! What is there not to enjoy?! Pure entertainment and fabulous adventure!
This was such a fun Ya fantasy read! I don't necessarily feel compelled to read the sequel but I did really enjoy it. I found Sigrid, our main character, to be quite childish, but when I think about it she is realistically written for a 16 year old.
I don't know a lot about Norse mythology but I enjoyed the elements that were included here, and my favourite part was the sapphic relationship!
I would recommend this book. I really enjoyed reading this book and couldn’t wait to see how things would work out. I am looking forward to reading more of this series just as soon as I can.
Another didn’t finish for me, I mood read so much that once attempting this for the third time, mind you I wanted this, I just want loving the characters, the concept however is sound idea but the characters were far too punishing to push through.
This book was a DNF for me. I did not enjoy the story or characters, which made it tough to want to finish the story. I got about half way and stopped. Unfortunately, not the book for me!
I love this cover! This was a fun YA Norse mythology book filled with lots of adventure. Highly recommend to all readers!
I loved this book, it gave me everything I wanted as a reader and more. I am a sucker for a cover and fell in love with the storyline and characters. Well written and kept me engaged :)
I love an underdog story.
Sigrid is a stable had with a wish to become a mighty Valkyrie. Unfortunately her horse doesn’t have wings which means her dreams seem unlikely. When she sees a vision of something more than what she is, a spark of hope is lit.
A fun journey with a girl/girl love interest.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a top 5 read of 2022 for me! Another can’t put down book, this story is a fantastic story based loosely on Norse mythology. The pacing was exceptionally well done, and while most books you can see the twists and turns coming, here, every twist was a surprise. Not only that, but the world building and journey was just magical. I was drawn in almost immediately, so much so that I bought the hardcover, despite receiving this as an e-arc.
The Valkeryies Daughter is a great coming of age book, where the strong female lead is able to go on an epic journey to truly discover herself. In a race to save everything she has known, Sigrid is able to grow into her own, while bucking tradition. The themes are fierce yet gentle, and the blooming romance is both a joy and infuriating at the same time. Basically the best mix to pull you in and keep you there. I cannot say how well written this book is.
If you are looking for a fast-paced, coming of age self-discovery novel, this book is for you. Please note that this is a YA book, and does contain mature themes. Thank you netgalley and entangled publishing for this e-arc!
