My 1st from this author. Usually, when I go to sport romances, I pick hockey, but having spent time in TX, I absolutely know how fanatic Austinites are about their longhorns, so I was curious to read this set-up in Dallas. Storyline and characters were ok and it kept me occupied over the weekend, which is what I wanted.
Review provided via ARC. I enjoyed Hit and Run by new-to-me author Tara Wyatt. Beau is a hotshot baseball player forced by his agent into a relationship-of-convenience with local yoga mogul el Piper.
The first half of the book was wonderful -- I believed the tension between the two MCs, including their reasons for not dating. At the very beginning, Beau asks Piper out on a date and she turns him down, giving him honest reasons why they shouldn't see one another. The second half of the book lost me, however. The dialogue turned from fun and believable to a little forced and stilted. The grandfather character felt like he existed only to push the plot forward to a rushed finale.
Overall 3/5
Steam 3.5/5
Relationship development 4/5
Plot 3/5
Subplot 1/5
Hit and Run was my first read by Tara Wyatt and I absolutely loved it! How I’ve never read her books before is a mystery considering sports romances are my absolute favorite. In this book sexy baseball player Beau gets his comeuppance in the shape of one sexy yoga instructor, Piper. He is a serial womanizer by choice, commitment and feelings are to be avoided at all costs. Piper is a woman on a mission. She has goals and a life plan she needs to fulfill. The attraction between the two is off the charts and their chemistry is undeniable. Circumstances bring them together and even though they weren’t supposed to, they catch feelings for each other. I absolutely loved watching them get their happily ever after, it was perfect for them. I’m giving Hit and Run the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval and adding the rest of the books in this series to my TBR list!
I love the Dallas Longhorns series and this might be my favorite. Tara Wyatt just gets better and better. I love Piper and Beau and their story!
Fake dating is my kryptonite!!!! I loved this steamy sports romance!
Hit and Run by Tara Wyatt is book five in her Dallas Longhorns series. This is actually the first book I've read by her, and I can honestly say I will be picking up her others. At no point was I lost, or confused about the other characters, so although it's a series, you can definitely start on this one if you're new to this author. This is a shorter read, but I didn't feel like Beau and Piper's story was rushed. These two had some great chemistry from the beginning. I do think their fake dating could have gone on a bit longer -- I think it would have been fun to see them have a bit more of that blurry line of fake vs real drawn out, because that's one of my favourite aspects in stories like these. Hit and Run is a book you can pick up in a reading slump and finish in one sitting. I think fans of Elle Kennedy's Off Campus & Briar U series would love this! Especially those that are looking for that sporty vibe, but maybe looking for something a little older (Piper is 26, Beau is 32).
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with the ebook. My review is my own honest thoughts!
4.5-stars for Hit and Run
Tara Wyatt has hit another home run with Hit and Run. Beau and Piper fit like Beau's
favorite glove, perfect and perfectly together. Their amazing chemistry comes through the pages to make Hit and Run a grand slam I would definitely recommend! Can't wait for the next book in the Dallas Longhorns series, Scoring Position.
Even though I did receive an advanced review copy of this book, I am voluntarily leaving my own unsolicited, voluntary opinion with this review.
Holy fuck this book was good. I have come to the conclusion that Tara Wyatt can not write a bad book. Every book I’ve read by her was either a 4 or 5 star book, but mostly 5 stars. The romance in this book was heartmelting and I did not want it to be done. Piper and Beau was so adorable and I loved how they did not deny their feelings when the realized they were in love
5/5 ⭐️ and 100% recommend this book and every book Tara has written.

This was such a fun read. I love a sports background, and I really enjoyed the story of Piper and Beau. It was a classic love story of initial attraction but keeping their distance, overcoming obstacles, a little fate pushing them together, and a bit of humor thrown in. Their connection was beautifully established and well written. A great book!
This was a super quick read for me!
So deliciously entertaining!
I loved all of the characters in this book & honestly seeing that this author is going to have more books around these characters (probably not main characters) is super exciting!
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a feel good romance.
Beau and Piper’s romance. Both have troubled childhood issues that make them nervous to have long term relationships. Flirting was common but nothing happened until Beau needed a fake girlfriend and she needed money for a startup. Nice to see them progress and grow to their HEA. Felt the bed hopping, especially after both claimed they shouldn’t do it, was a bit fast. Otherwise enjoyed this one and would recommend.
This was a very enjoyable read! Both MCs were nice people with understandable issues and reservations. It was lovely to see them grow together and figure out how to let each other in while still supporting each other's dreams.
There is plenty of steam, and it's very well written! Pick this up for a sweet, fun story with lots of laughs and heart.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Tara Wyatt’s fifth book, Hit and Run, in the Dallas Longhorns baseball series hits a grand slam (pun intended) in the romance/sports genre. Rife with palpable emotions and tug at the heartstrings moments, Beau and Piper’s story really hits home (pun unintended). The players’ banter is quite amusing, with the character interactions rounding out all the goodness the story holds.
I’ve truly been enjoying this series, each story building on the previous one(s)…yet they can be read as a stand alone…Ms Wyatt does a wonderful job with the characters’ backstories, keeping any reader confusion at a bare minimum. I’m looking forward to the book in the series, Scoring Position, Christian Hale’s story.
