Roxy and Callan are two "wingmen" for their friends at a nightclub. Instead of playing up the other for their friends, they get together. They are both a bit jaded, but experienced, people who see life in different avenues. The hockey scenes are well described and nice to see as so many "hockey trope" books have little to none in them. This was a fun read, with all the emotions.
Thank you NetGalley for providing this copy in exchange for my unpaid, honest review.
I received this book as an ARC from netgalley. I love a good hockey romance. This was the first in a new series and I was pretty excited about it. Overall I did enjoy it although I feel like It could do with some editing, it felt especially long at certain parts. It’s definitely a slow burn romance but overall I really liked both the hero and the heroine, I felt like they were well matched and I really liked their love story. There was definitely the perfect amount of hockey in here which I really liked and I will definitely read the next in the series. All opinions are my own.
I have seen a total of two ice hockey games in my life, but for some reason, I'm always drawn to ice hockey romances. There are a couple of things that really appeal to me about this particular book. The heroine is a strong woman who is determined to make her way in the world. She's also not some inexperienced type who hasn't had a lot of experience with men. So many books pair the male player with the inexperienced woman. Here Roxy and Callan are perfectly matched on that front.
I really enjoyed this romance, it is a sports romance and while there are scenes on the ice and the sport is mentioned, the key part of the story is the romance itself. Both Roxy and Callan are reluctant to become too committed, to begin with, but they seem unable to resist spending time together and it's not long before they are developing feelings for one another.
Roxy and Callan make a great couple, there are a few misunderstandings to get through first, but let's face it, you expect that in romances, but they work really well together as a couple. The way that some of the other characters are mentioned made me think that they may have been featured in previous books by this author, but I wasn't sure and I don't think that I was missing anything by not having read them. I would be keen to read more in the Atlanta Siege Hockey Romance series though.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
Enjoyable book from Raine Thomas and the first in a new series promising to be a hit, A Heart So Wild was a good choice for me on a busy weekend. I particularly liked the characters, especially Roxy in her fun unorthodox life. I could only imagine Daj, Roxy’s grandmother’s story!
This story goes to show us it’s okay to lean on each and who knows love may be just around the corner.
Callan and Roxy are playing 'wingman' to their respective friends on a night out. When said respective friends hook up after the girls are 'rescued' from potential suitors who are boring as all get-out, Callan and Roxy are left getting to know one another. They share some details but have no plans beyond that night - Callan being a known player (both in love and in the NHL) and Roxy being fiercely independent and single.
Roxy is intrigued by Callan and their meeting so visits a few places she thinks Callan might be in the hope of meeting up with him again. When luck is on her side they share a hot and heavy couple of hours together - again with no plans to see each other. It's Callan's turn to track Roxy down at her workplace.
This is a story about the ties that bind in families, the strong, secure attachments and the toxic, strained or fractured attachments. Roxy is fortunate with the former but struggles with wanting to be independent and do things her own way, without the input from her caring family. Callan is not so fortunate, having a fractured relationship with his parents, and loses his grandfather who was the single source of emotional support in his life. He's rich financially but doesn't have a secure footing within his team, has variable relationships with his team mates, and doesn't feel he is living a life of value. When Callan and Roxy begin to meet each others needs in these areas their attachment grows, both being reluctant to recognise their importance in each other's lives.
This is a reasonable length book in terms of a romance read - Callan is 30 and I was surprised he didn't really have a better handle on some of these issues given his age. Roxy is fun, charming and headstrong and struggles with acknowledging she might need help or support. I enjoyed the push and pull of their relationship, and their growth as individuals and as a couple. The grand gesture was a tad frustrating given Callan's age and how it played out, but there was some comedic relief with Roxy's family.
I really enjoyed A Heart So Wild and look forward to reading more books by the author. Thanks to Netgalley for the ecopy of this book.
A Heart So Wild the first in a new hockey romance series by Raine Thomas is an engaging tale that slowly builds into a lovely romance between two characters who come from very different backgrounds but find they have lots of similarities especially in the way they live their lives, and as a solid friendship develops and the characters grow an endearing romance flourishes.
And with great supporting characters, little drama and angst this was an easy and enjoyable read and as a new author to me I would certainly read more from Ms Thomas in the future especially when it comes to this hockey team.
This book was amazing! This is the first book that I’ve read by Raine Thomas, but it won’t be the last. This book is about Callan Murphy and Roxy Wagner. Both characters are really flushed out and likable in their own way. Roxy is trying to find her way in a new career field and Callan is trying to really commit to hockey for the first time in his like. I liked that the book had them work for these goals, it wasn’t an immediate fix. There were a few twists I didn’t see coming, and as a voracious reader, that isn’t always a easy to accomplish.I usually figure out where books are going pretty early on, so I liked not really knowing where Ms. Thomas was taking me. Well done. Thanks NetGalley for an advanced copy and a new author to add to me TBR list!
ARC through NetGalley. Hockey romance with great character development and pacing. Callan is a talented hockey player trying to rehab his image after the death of his grandfather. Roxy is a down on her luck real estate agent who has trouble accepting help. Through trial and error, they figure out that Callan learns to be the man his grandfather imagined, while Roxy learns to open her heart without losing her spirit.
A Heart So Wild by Ms. Thomas was such a refreshing change from the most recent books I've read and I look forward to reading more from this author, most especially more of the men of the Atlanta Siege Hockey team. I think it was Callan & Roxy's mature and grown-up way of dealing with the trials and tribulations of a new relationship. I loved that they became really good friends throughout their story even though their sexual connection was immediate and scorching. The well-developed secondary characters added to the overall enjoyment of the plot and story line. Callan's grandfather and Roxy's grandmother were charming and delightful! Not to mention all of Roxy's family! The emotional growth that I witnessed in Callan and Roxy is probably the reason I loved this read so much. This was quite the touching and moving read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it and I think you will too! I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
I love a good hockey romance, and this did not disappoint. Roxy and Callan are opposites in life but work so well together. I like how their relationship develops and grows. And the supporting characters are fire! They draw you in not wanting to wait for more from the series.
I really enjoyed this book. Roxy and Callan had an electric connection from the start. Theirs was such a fun story to escape into from their chance (by fate) meeting to how intensely their relationship grew. This author writes vividly and it was a page turner. A great read!
A very enjoyable read! Callan's relationships with his friends and teammates are fun and funny and it's nice to see how he grows and develops across through the story. Roxy is also a fun character--she's got lots of grit and determination and it's easy to cheer for her success.
The connection between the two is nice. Neither is exactly looking for a relationship but as they get to know each other they develop genuine respect and appreciation for each other to go with their chemistry. There's definitely some steam, but it's not overwhelming or gratuitous. It's just one (enjoyable) part of their story and it feels very natural.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
A quick, almost wholesome read! The characters are well fleshed out and have their flaws, the motivation behind their actions makes a good deal of sense, and they're just all around adorable. Not the smut book I thought the cover led me to believe, but the nice romance book with some spicy scenes I secretly needed.
A great sport star romance of hockey player Cullen and Roxy, the real estate broker. Liked this one overall, and was hard to put down. Her gypsy skills in the beginning would have been fun to continue throughout the book, and some of the angst seemed a little over done, but still worth the read. Highly recommend this one.
