This is book 1 in the Romancing the Rink series but it is an offshoot of the Heller Brothers series. Amy's life has gone down in flames and she isn't living up to the Heller name, or so she believes. And she doesn't want to deal with anyone during Christmas, so she goes to stay at a friend's cabin during the holiday in order to be alone. Ryder is a workaholic who not only wants to spend time with his family this Christmas but he wants to do it while taking some time staying at a cabin. He loves Christmas and can't wait for everything associated with it. But when he gets to the cabin he is supposed to stay in, he walks in on Amy. Amy has hated this man since she was 16 and just wants him out. But the weather has made that impossible. Forced proximity also forces them to confront their attraction.
I really liked this story! Their back and forth had me cracking up at times! There is definitely a lot of chemistry there but there is also a lot of heart to heart. I really liked that part of it. It wasn't all about the chemistry and just getting in bed together. Ryder is definitely this sweet man, and I really wasn't expecting him to be. I wish there had been an epilogue or something though as it seemed like their story wasn't fully finished. Still a great read, just felt like I was left hanging waiting for more.
3.5 Stars!
Hate Me Under the Mistletoe is Kelly Jamieson's latest book. It is replete with holiday goodness, romance, and plenty of heat. This is a nice start to her brand new series, Romancing the Rink.
It is the Christmas season and Amy needs some alone time. Her boring job and cheating ex have caused her funk. Although she loves her family dearly, she is not in the mood for any holiday cheer. So she ends up picking up some supplies and traveling to her friend's deserted cabin for some space.
Due to a miscommunication, Ryder ends up at the same cabin. Ryder is a workaholic and finally takes a vacation from his very successful environmental awareness business. Amy and Ryan actually know each other from way back when. Amy's family hosted Ryan when he was a junior hockey player. Imagine their mutual surprise when they see each other for the first time in many years. At first Amy is distant and difficult, but her barriers to love begin to melt as the blizzard outside begins to subside.
I liked this book, although the plot fell a bit flat for me in the middle. I liked how the author evolved Amy's character from disappointment into pure happiness. Ryder is a really good guy and truly goes out of his way to make Amy feel special. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Hate Me Under the Mistletoe is a cute story about two people thinking being alone in a cabin in the woods right before Christmas is the perfect getaway. Until they realize they aren’t alone! Ryder and Amy have a history from when Ryder lived with Amy’s family while playing junior hockey. Amy had a crush on Ryder and he rebuked her. And there is where the hate begins. I’m not a big fan of enemies to lovers romance but after the ice thawed and the venom was given an antidote, it became a cute Christmas tale of new love that is so special and magical, especially at that time of the year.
5 star review of Hate Me Under The Mistletoe (Romancing The Rink #1) by Kelly Jamieson
What's not to love? It's the most magical time of the year and also happens to be my most favourite holiday. I love any story that is centred around Christmas; it’s a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate life. From the first chapter to the last I was fully invested in Ryder Long and Amy Heller’s story.
Hate Me Under The Mistletoe was a well written, entertaining story that ticked all the boxes for me. Amy is fed up with life having just found out that her boyfriend was cheating on her and she has lost her job thanks to the women’s hockey league she belongs to folding.
Escaping to a friends’ cabin she has no idea how that decision is about to change her life forever. Ryder too has escaped to the cabin for some much needed down time. Imagine their shock when they come face to face and even worse find themselves stranded together by a snowstorm. Amy and Ryder have history, although he has no idea what he did to make her so angry. The chemistry between them is intense and as they re connect it was obvious that feelings were re igniting.
Hate Me Under The Mistletoe was full of so many feel good moments that my face ached from smiling so much. Could the miracle of the Christmas season give Ryder and Amy a second chance at happiness? One click and find out.

Hate Me Under the Mistletoe is the perfect, hot Christmas read. Having known each other years prior, it is a fantastic coincidence Ryder and Amy both end up at the same cabin right before Christmas from different offers. Both love hockey and have played, but go different directions in life. Amy tried to start something with Ryder when they were still teens, but Ryder would have none of it. You guessed it, Amy is still holding a bit of a grudge, does not want him staying with her at a cabin in which she is ‘hiding’ from her family, her ex-boyfriend, the world. Ryder just needs a place to stay until he goes to visit his family for Christmas.
Things definitely become complicated when they get snowed in, even as Ryder is still trying to be a gentleman. No electricity or heat, no problem. These two make their own heat. And, they have the time to finally talk about those previous events that still bother Amy. She is strong, yet vulnerable; brave, yet tender-hearted. Ryder is still as hot as ever. Apparently, Amy has grown into her own, too.
I have not read the Heller Brother series as Kelly Jamieson is a fairly new author to me, but I am definitely going back to read them.
If you love hockey romances and the magic of the holiday season look no further than Hate Me Under the Mistletoe. I picked this book up and there was no putting down until I had read the final word, I was captivated and engrossed in Amy Heller and Ryder Long’s story and honestly I really didn’t want this book to end.
Amy’s life is being turned upside down she has lost her job in woman’s professional hockey due to the league folding and then she finds out her boyfriend who was meant to spending Christmas with her family was cheating on her. She decides to miss Christmas completely and head to a friends cabin in the mountains, she intended to veg out alone but just when she thought things couldn’t get any worse another person turns up at the cabin.
Ryder is on his way to spend Christmas with his family but some chilling out is needed first and he stops off at a friends cabin in the mountains, what he didn’t expect was to have company and when a snowstorm traps them, things start to get heated and real interesting. This couple have history, he lived with her family for a while back in his youth hockey playing days but he has no idea what he did to make Any so angry towards him…….
Christmas is a magical of year so has fate put these two together for a reason, will Christmas work it’s magic and will this couple get a second chance. Guess you need to read this book to find that out.
Kelly Jamieson is bringing on the sweet and sassy in this stranded at Christmas novel! With the first book in the Romancing the Rink multi-author series Jamieson reunites former teenage frenemies and we get to watch the fireworks as old attraction flares to life amidst a winter wonderland! It wasn't as well developed as most from this author, but it was a whole lot of fun none-the-less and I'm looking forward to digging into the next to come in the series from Tess Thompson.
Amy Heller is down on her luck and relatable as all get out. Who of us haven't been hit upside the head by life a time or two and just didn't have the energy to put up a cheerful holiday front? I loved seeing her get to live a little.
Ryder is enjoyable from the very first time he shows up in the book. He's sure of himself and wants to reconnect with Amy much more than she wants anything to do with him. I enjoyed their banter very much.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced, stranded at the holidays romance with laughter, passion and an all around family holiday feeling.
I enjoyed this holiday romance between opposites, Ryder and Amy. When Ryder was a young hockey player he stayed with Amy's family to be near the rink, so he thought of her as an annoying little sister. Amy had a big crush on him but when Ryder rebuffed her, she decided she hated him. Now, Amy finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her and can't face her happily paired-up family at Christmas so she decides to stay at a friends cabin. Ryder is a workaholic who lets his friends pressure him into taking a few days off before joining his family for Christmas. As luck would have it they have borrowed the same cabin without knowing it. They end up stranded in a snowstorm for several days together. Amy is miserable company and hates Christmas this year. Ryder is a big fan of Christmas and is impressed by Amy. Together they manage to overcome their past and look forward to a great romantic future. Recommended.
I adored this book so much! Hate Me Under the Mistletoe is a fantastic, read in one sitting , holiday romance!
This book touches upon some of my favorite tropes, but with a twist.
It’s a hockey romance. He used to play hockey and she is a female hockey player turned coach.
It’s a grumpy versus sunshine romance. Except he’s the big ray of sunshine and she’s little miss Grinch.
It’s an enemies to lovers/second chance romance. He lived with her family when he played junior hockey and she crushed on the older boy. She was off limits and he went out of his way to keep it that way. This made her hate him, but not really.
This book is all these thing and so much more. I enjoyed reading it and it put me in a prefestive mood! I’m giving Hate Me Under The Mistletoe the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
Ryder and Amy’s story is a story of chance and fate stepping in and bringing two unlikely people together.
Stuck together in a cabin Ryder and Amy find themselves at odds but then a comprise is reached when things start getting worse! Amy is a headstrong, stubborn but independent woman while Ryder takes life at a totally different pace!
The two bind over ice hockey and conversations by the fire but is there enough there for it to be more?
A hilarious story with some great characters!
Hate Me Under the Mistletoe is the perfect holiday treat. From spicy attraction to heartwarming romance, Jamieson sets emotions ablaze. When Amy and Ryder take a stroll down memory lane, fireworks are sure to follow. A temptation that proves itself to be an endearing yet frustrating ride.
This book really is the perfect holiday read. And it sure doesn't hurt that it involves a younger generation of one of my all time favorite hockey families - the Hellers! Amy is a daughter of a family of hockey royalty. She is having a really horrible start to her holiday season with some major betrayals from her boyfriend. The one she was planning to bring home for the holidays. Her family is definitely filled with hockey over achievers and a lot of happy couples. Losing out on that happy romance and potentially losing out on her dream job in the NHL leaves her feeling much more grinchlike than santa. When her friend allows her to use a family cabin for the holiday - she seizes the opportunity!
Ryder is Amy's childhood crush - who left things badly with her. He billeted with the Hellers while playing junior hockey - during a difficult time in the family's life. He knew Amy had a crush on him - but being two years older and living with her family, he did not want to mess anything up. So he purposefully ignored the crush and dated other girls. This hurt Amy in a big way - and she is now very determined to hate Ryder in a major way.
Their relationship development is really sweet and Ryder has definitely grown up a LOT since he and Amy last saw each other. The only thing I didn't love is how grumpy Amy was at the start. I totally understand she had a LOT to be unhappy about and just wanted to wallow in her self-pity (she's honest about it at least!) - but the way she treated Ryder was seriously childish and rude. It did give her a lot of room for growth tho - so there is that.
This book does truly bring home the holiday feelings of family and love more than anything else. And the end really is just perfect. Overall I recommend it - and it definitely got me in the mood to read the other connected stories about Garland Grove!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own!
I can't think of anything more romantic than being stranded inside a beautiful cottage in the mountains with a sexy guy while a blizzard is taking place:) At Christmas time, no less! The only problem is, Amy wants to be alone and certainly doesn't want to be stranded with Ryder, a man she's had a crush on since they were both teens. A man she's also hated for years!!
This was such a great story and I just loved Amy and Ryder's characters. Little do they realize how much they really do need each other and it's a joy to watch them start understanding what happened in the past and getting to know each other as adults. I also loved Ryder's family, what a hoot they are:)
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
When life starts pelting her with lemons, Amy decides she cannot do Christmas this year. Luckily, a friend offers her the perfect getaway. Then her fortress of solitude is infiltrated by her none other than her teenage crush, Ryder. The awkwardness of their reunion gives way to sparks as these two find the holiday spirit together.
Having read other books featuring the Hellers, it was great catching up with the family and getting to know Amy. One thing you need to understand is that Amy was not in a great place at the beginning of this book. After several life failures, she finally thought she was living up to her family’s high standards. Then it all came crashing down right before Christmas. I felt for her and sort of understood why she could not deal with a family holiday celebration.
At least fate brought Ryder back into her life. He had a love for Christmas that rivaled small children. His joy and excitement was contagious. It was really sweet being with him and his family too. They were not going to waste the time they had together and packed it with lots of fun and cheer.
Though there were some festive times when Amy and Ryder were snowed in, the real fun began when they arrived in Garland Grove. I was head-over-heels for that town. It was the sort of place my Hallmark dreams are made of. It was Christmas to the Nth degree there, and I could not wipe the grin off my face as I got to explore the quaint and charming little village.
It pained me to see Amy suffering so much at the beginning of the book, but it warmed my heart when Ryder was able to restore her holiday spirit. The ending was picture perfect for me as well, and I was left happy and sated.
Super enjoyable read. If you are looking for a feel good holiday book pick this up and you will be happy.
I thought Ryker and Amy were well suited and made a nice couple.
It is a light touch and shorter book so is probably a bit light on character depth. If you have read any of the other books in this series then you will really love this one, but it’s totally stand alone.
While I do love a good forced proximity romance, the heroine kept me from liking this one. There’s nothing wrong with this book per say but there’s nothing that really sets this book a part from any other romance and that’s what I’m looking for these days.
Amy acted a bit immature for my tastes in holding Ryder’s (smart) actions against him for when he was 16 and she was 14. Ryder seemed like a nice guy but neither character really grabbed me.
If you’re looking for a quick, sweet romance with very little drama but with a holiday feel then sure give this a go. I unfortunately found myself wanting to skim to the end.
*Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
Amy has had it, with her ex- boyfriend cheating on her, her job, having a successful family. All she wants to do is be miserable this Christmas. When her friend offers the family cabin in the mountains, that will now be empty, she jumps on it. All she wants is to ski, read, and relax.
Ryder loves everything about Christmas. He’s been a workaholic to his growing business, that he hasn’t had time to spend the holidays with his family. Well that will definitely happen this year. But first, a family friend offers him a cabin in the mountains that will be empty, so he can unwind before he visits the family. All is good, until he walks in on a naked Amy dancing. These two have known each other since they were kids. Ryder lived at Amy’s house training for hockey. Amy always had a crush on him. She’s hated him for rejecting her affection, one night when she made her move.
Amy wants Ryder to leave since she was the first one at the cabin. Ryder doesn’t understand her animosity towards him. Then a massive snow storm hits and they are stranded for days. Now they have lots of time to get to know each other and sparks fly. But what happens when they go their separate ways.
This was a great romance story!
Hate Me Under the Mistletoe is the perfect holiday read. I loved every moment of this one. You have a little bit of Christmas hate mixed in with that Christmas love that will put a smile on your face. Amy and Ryder are fabulous. I love the flirtatious hate that goes on while they are stranded in a snowstorm together. Ryder will put a smile on your face as he works to figure out why Amy hates him so much. Amy is wonderful even with the as she is not really in the Christmas family mood. I love how these teenage friends come together after years later. It is such a cute read and I could not get enough of this one. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the ladies bring to the Romancing the Rink series.
This was an entertaining read to get you in the Christmas spirit, even though Amy has absolutely NO love for Christmas this year. But, Ryder has enough for both of them! Amy wasn’t my favorite character at first, but as I got to know her and her reasons for her feelings, I could understand where she was coming from. This was a feel good, get in the mood for the holiday read!
If you are looking for a quick holiday read that packs the same heat as a story twice its length, look for farther. Two people who haven’t seen each other in years, forced proximity, and thoughtful holiday gestures that made my heart race made this a perfect read in one sitting pick.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
