I love anthologies. They offer so much in such a short time, but I joylessly need to say that this one did not hit the mark for the biggest part. I always give books more than a chance, especially in the case of anthologies because they collect a spectrum of voices and while I may dislike some, I am bound to find one I enjoy; and that happened, but only partially.
This was a really fun anthology of astrology-themed stories from some of my favorite current YA authors. I enjoyed some stories more than others, but it was still a really fun spin on an anthology!
Not going to lie, I am not well versed in anthology, which, oddly enough, is why I was so intrigued by this anthology. But considering the amazing author list, I knew I had to read it and take a chance. One of my favorite elements of this anthology - besides the author list - was the genre mixing of fantasy, contemporary, and romance all blended into one.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.
“But her mother taught her that shame belongs only to the shameful, and her existance was to be celebrated, not hidden away.”
Is there anything better than an anthology? How about one based around astrological signs that gave us ALL the representation? “All Signs Point to Yes” is a collection of short stories that gives us the full spectrum of relationships from romantic, platonic, friendship and familial all wrapped in an adorable package.
Anthologies have always been something I am drawn to as it is an easy and cost effective way to get to meet many authors quickly. I know from experience that a short story is more than enough to get a feel for an author’s writing and can ultimately lead to a new favorite! I have no doubt that this will be the case for anyone who makes the wise decision to explore “All Signs Point to Yes.”
It most anthologies there is a central theme and all the stories have similar storylines with each author’s unique spin, but that is not the case here. The astrology theme does not hold the authors captive to a singular plot device and we are given a wide array of stories from fantasy to YA romance to a bookstore Witch that stole my heart.
I was overly impressed with the diversity that was included throughout all the stories, we are given characters with a myriad of backgrounds and many colors of the LGBTQ rainbow. They started off with a bang with the first story being a short, high-fantasy with a non-binary love interest and from there we were off on a rollercoaster ride I was thrilled to be on.
It is inevitable that there will be some stories that stand out more than the rest, but the beauty of a collection such as this is that they will be different for everyone as we connect with the characters in our own ways. This was a book I found myself turning to in-between other reads for a quick story that would keep a book slump away. There is literally something for everyone so there is no excuse to not pick up this fun anthology!
A YA anthology where each story is based on as astrological sign!
This one was alright for me. As always with anthologies, I connected with some more than others. Surprising no one, I found the contemporary ones to land better for me than the fantasy ones. It’s so hard for fantasy becomes there’s a certain amount of world building that needs to happen and quickly to make the short story work. Those for me didn’t do exactly what I wanted or needed to be fully into the story.
The good thing about this is that there really is something for everyone, regardless of star sign. They might not all be for everyone, but there’s something in there for each reader.
3.5 stars rounded up
The stories overall were a bit of a miss for me. I can't say that any one truly stood out to me, and as time has gone on I have forgotten them. I do love a queer short story collection so this does not deter me from trying more, but I don't recommend this one.
This was a good compilation of short stories - and I found a couple new authors that I'm following for more of their work. I also thought the thread of the different star signs was a neat way to organize the stories and give them some sort of connection (even though they're all very different and unique).
I think the challenge with any group of stories is the varying strength of the individual stories and the varying styles of storytelling. Short stories are a difficult medium to hook a reader and give them enough to feel something and some stories in this collection were more successful at that than others.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book for me to read and review!
This book was OK. It had a cute premise: contemporary romance for all zodiac signs. But it fell short for me. I didn't feel engaged with any of the characters or stories. I enjoy anthologies because I get introduced to authors I might not have read before, but I didn't feel any story standing out to me.
I don't think it was a bad book, I just think it wasn't to my taste, and that is why I am giving it 3 stars. It was fine, and that is all.
My thanks to NetGalley and Inkyard Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was given to me by netgalley and I did not request it. I did not read the book so I am not in a position to review the book.
Love the way these stories were compiled together! It made for a good read! Anthologies are sometimes iffy because I’m never sure what I’m going to get but this one exceeded my expectation as!
3.5 stars!
Anthologies are my go-to when I feel a reading slump coming on, so I was excited to read ALL SIGNS POINT TO YES which features such a great collection from many multicultural YA authors to break up my reading.
I listened to the audiobook format, and found most of the stories to be heartwarming and just what I hoped them to be.
*many thanks to Inkyard Press and netgalley for the gifted copy for review
This book made me ask myself, why don't I read shirt story compilations more often?? All of the stories were very sweet and heartwarming but the bookstore witch one especially resonated with me! I truly cannot emphasize enough how much this book made me love the short story genre. What a great book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review
Maybe I’m just not into astrology enough to really get this book, or maybe it’s because I have read books by almost any of the contributing authors, but this book just really wasn’t for me. I usually pick very carefully with what anthologies to read. This just wasn’t my thing!
I’m not having the best of luck with reading lately. I tried reading this book from front to back, then I tried reading some signs out of order thinking of story just wasn’t it for me. But the entirety of the book just right click with me.
I might try this book again later on, but I didn't actually end up finishing it. I read 3 of the stories and really was not interested in the anthology and didn't understand what really held the stories together and kept them cohesive - it wasn't enough ABOUT astrology for me...
one thing about me: i love astrology! so it was only fitting that i got an arc of this book! i love short stories anthologies! i get to read stories from authors whose book i didnt pick up for various reasons and get introduced to new ones.
this anthology had some great stories and i can say i enjoyed most them!
Lots of representation; variety of genres — lots of love. This will be a good addition to my romance section.
A literal star-studded anthology that delivers a love story for every star sign straight from the hearts of thirteen multicultural YA authors
All Signs Point to Yes was, in short, a joy to read. There was such a variety of love stories, all about overcoming the fear and uncertainties of love, and saying yes.
I will say that I don’t think anthologies are for me; it threw me off a bit to read so many different genres consecutively and for that reason I couldn’t get into the characters as much as I wanted to.
Overall, most of the stories were cute and unexpected, but some fell flat and felt rushed, again because of the length of them.
