I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A big ship has been compromised and a tug is needed. Great illustrations that go with the easy text.
This beautifully illustrated story tells the story of what happens when a cargo ship runs aground. A crew steps into salvage the damaged boat and this very interesting story explains how that happens. The art work has an Art Deco feel to it and does an amazing job of showing what the excellent text means. Lots of people are going to enjoy reading this action packed book.
A great book explaining how a big ship is rescued from a treacherous situation. I love that the salvage boat captain is a woman. Very great representation. If your kids love stuff with engines, this is a must read.
So much to love here! A female front and center, great art, respect for the environment, and a whole new topic- I knew nothing about ship rescue!
Also a very heartwarming ending,
Can't wait to show this one to my son.
Thanks for the sneak peek!
This is so cool! I didn't know much about how ship rescue and salvage worked and this was an exciting, compelling story. Young kids are going to be fascinated by all the machines and big jobs. The illustrations really bring the story to life and have lots of fun little details as well.
I LOVED that the Salvage Master was female and that it was completely incidental. It's so rare for girls to see themselves on the page in charge of rescue operations or engineering projects and they will definitely notice and be excited about it. It's just as important for the boys to see this normalized too. I can't wait to read this to my classes!
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
A storm has caused the ship Goliath to wreck, endangering the crew and requiring a rescue. Enter Salvage Master Miley with her tugboat, the Mighty Mackerel. Along with her salvage team, Miley unloads the cargo, refloats the ship, and restores order.
This is a fun rescue book, particularly for children interested in ships and boats. There’s a good bit of descriptive detail about the specifics of the rescue, such as the tools and methods used, which may be advanced for some children. But it’s a great learning opportunity and the author does an excellent job of making the process fairly easy to understand. I especially loved the illustration at the end of the book with a diagram of the tugboat which identifies parts of the boat. Very neat inclusion.
I wish the illustrations of Miley and other people were more expressive, shapely, and consistent. Miley looks different in almost every page. However, overall, this is a great book for ship or transportation enthusiasts and to teach children about ship rescues.
