When I read a YA book, I try very hard to keep in mind the demographic that it was written for.
That said, even by young YA standards, this book was tedious. It was disjoicofusongif it had any depth at all, it would have been downright confusing. There was just too much crammed into a short book and none of it was cohesive.
Multiple romances that, for some reason, at too many moments, took precedence over the actual murders. Too short POVs so you never really get attached to any one character.
I genuinely didn't even care when one of them nearly died because her character was so shallow. Not even shallow as in lacking depth as a person. More like, we get so little of her that she's just never fleshed out properly.
Absolutely no one could be surprised by the killer, who was obvious as soon as he popped up on the scene.
It was just an underwhelming mess.

The premise of this book was so cool and spooky, and I was excited to dive into this. Unfortunately, the plot fell flat and just wasn’t as intriguing as I’d hoped.

I found this, despite the interesting premise, to be quite boring. The characters were one-dimensional and didn't add much to the story, and the mystery element was also pretty obvious to figure out whodunnit. I wish it had been more creepy and less adventure-y.

thank you to Netgalley and Random House Children's for the e-ARC. it was provided in exchange for an honest review.

while Horror Hotel didn't stick with me long after the final page, it still was an edge-of-your-seat thriller that left me reading frantically all the way to the end.

Not the best haunted hotel book I’ve ever read, and I’m not sure tying in Elisa Lam was a fantastic idea. But I did like the Scooby Doo-esque twist.

I liked this one and think it will be an easy sell to students. However, I thought the character development could have been better, and I ultimately didn't connect to any of them.

Well, it was definitely creepy and bloody. I suspected who would be the killer half pages in the book but it was still a good read. I loved the Ghost Gang and their divesity.

I enjoyed this book's take on what happened at the Cecil Hotel. They obviously changed all names, but if you're a true crime fan, you know. Alternating points of view is nice, but sometimes I got a little confused on who exactly was talking. It was a quick read, but perfect for YA fans of horror and mystery. Thanks to Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am sorry for the inconvenience but I don’t have the time to read this anymore and have lost interest in the concept. I believe that it would benefit your book more if I did not skim your book and write a rushed review. Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience.

I really enjoyed this book about a group of ghost hunting teens making a movie at a very haunted hotel. I'm fascinated by the stories about the Hotel Cecil and this book seemed to be a fictionalized case of it. It definitely held my interest and just the right amount of creepiness not to keep me up at night.

Amateur teen sleuths, a historical hotel with a terrifying past... there was so much I wanted to like about this book. Unfortunately, the characters didn't seem fully developed and the plot felt haphazard at best. This book has a great cover, which is what drew me in, but a poor execution. Bummer.

Fun, spooky, twisty, and entertaining! I think my students will love this book full of relatable characters, technology, and full of spooks and twists!

Besides the obvious Elisa Lam storyline, I found this book to be really enjoyable. I would have preferred fewer parallels to the real life death, but I thought the authors did a good job of writing and interesting and spooky YA story. I can’t wait to see what they do next!

This was a quick read with some light spooks. It was actually spookier than I was anticipating for a YA novel. This book followed an ambitious group of YouTube influencers that make videos about haunted places and occasionally contact spirits through their clairvoyant friend, Chrissy. When they visit a particularly gruesome LA murder hotel, trouble unwind and they are roped into solving the hotel's cold cases.

I really enjoyed the alternating perspective of the characters and their unique relationships with one another. I also really enjoyed the plot twist, even though it was a bit predictable. It was still a fun and I think this is a perfect starting point for anyone wanting to get into the horror genre!

This fun YA Horror story has it all:

- great characters
- sweet romantic crushes
- lgbtq+ representation
- sarcasm
- paranormal events
- creepy old hotel with lots of ghosts
- murder
- a bit of gore
- some really creepy scenes
- mystery
- serial killer
- stupid decisions made by main characters
- excellent, creepy cover
- revenge!

I mean, what more could you ask for in a YA Horror story? I loved it. It was a lot of fun! Not too long so I read it in a day and the action taking place is a total page-turner.

I definitely recommend this fun read!!

I thought the book was just okay. I wanted to be really be a lot more creepied out. And I guessed whom the killer was. I haven't reviewed it yet, when I do I will update my review with the link. Thanks so much for the opportunity to read and review the book. I would give the author another shot because I didn't enjoy the writing and it was easy to read.

I really enjoyed Horror Hotel. It was a fast and fun book. I probably shouldn't have been reading at midnight while all alone because some of parts of it really creeped me out and had me looking over my shoulder lol.

I am quite familiar with the Elisa Lam case and they definitely took a lot of inspiration from that. However, I felt they did so with respect and care.

This is a story about being haunted.

If you enjoy paranormal horror- this is a fun, vaguely creepy, but not too serious read! I enjoyed the character dynamics & banter in the found family group, and I would definitely pick up a sequel. I especially loved the youtube ghost hunter element- a very good time!

Thank you so much netgalley & Random House Children’s for the eArc!

I thought this was going to be a fantastic book. The cover, the synopsis, what could go wrong? I feel like the book was poorly executed, it was VERY middle-grade feeling for a book with older teens as the main characters. I was very disappointed in the "horror" for the most part. A few sections were very well written and created great images in my head and I would have loved to experience more of that. Overall, I would like to see these authors grow a bit more. I will try their books in the future and hope for the best.
