ER nurse Jessie Novak who works alongside the police on investigations is thrown into a disturbing new case when a woman falls from a building. Suicide is ruled out as the woman was dead before she left the roof...
Her Mother's Cry is the third book to feature Jessie and I have previously read and reviewed the second book in the series The Frozen Girl. There are mentions about some aspects of Jessie's personal and family life but no plot spoilers from the previous books.
Jessie's character is staunchly determined to care, support and find the truth. Her relationship with Sam is strained at times as she heads off in her own direction with little thought for her own safety. She acts from the heart and often on impulse which frustrates Sam as he plays by the rules and is worried about compromising the investigation.
The book is written mostly from Jessie's perspective but we also see some chapters from the killer's viewpoint. This allows us insight into his motivation and increases the tension as we anticipate his next grisly move.
I felt that there was a slightly political side to the plot as the first victim is identified as an illegal immigrant. Yet Jessie treats the woman's friends as equals and respects their choices and background. This shows her natural humanity as well as makes a wider statement about respecting others regardless of their circumstances. In contrast the killer has no respect for human life.
I enjoyed the forensic detail and the police procedural elements of the book. Neither seemed too gruesome or graphic yet they conveyed the medical and investigation sides to the plot with appropriate depth.
Her Mother's Cry is an entertaining crime thriller with a very strong female lead character who is unusual due to her nursing background.

I do really enjoy this series but I am still a bit baffled by Jessie’s role. She’s an ER nurse who also works in the ME Office as a forensic nurse, as well as, being a liaison between the police and the ME. I also struggle to believe that she always finds the clues that the police and forensics miss. That being said it is a nice easy who dunnit read with some great characters, especially Jessie’s neighbour Rufus. This is the 3rd book in the series and I did guess who the killer was as soon as a certain character was introduced but I still enjoyed seeing the case come together. If you’re looking for a crime thriller that isn’t too heavy then definitely check out this series.

I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I can easily see why they say this is completely gripping - it is so true!
A mystery thriller that I have no hesitation in highly recommending to you.
When a young woman falls to her death some wrongly decide
That she'd actually killed herself, committed suicide
But forensic nurse Jessie Novak looks at the clues
And a murder enquiry quickly ensues.

A narcissistic serial killer is on a spree
Watching young women die gives them glee.
The story has parts told from the killer's point of view
These are so revealing and give such an insight, too.
As more victims are killed they up the pace
Stopping them soon is becoming a race.

Jessie and Sam and the rest of the team are there
But who is next planned victim is they're unaware.
With evidence, hints, clues and more
They try to identify the perpetrator
The ending is a genuine chiller
And this story a gripping crime thriller.

The plot is enthralling with lots of twists
Keeping you engrossed as you guess what's been missed.
The characters are great and there's even possible romance
If only they have time to give their love a chance!
The team are great, with interactions that feel
As if they are true and everything's real.

My complementary copy I didn't want to put down
Any interruptions to reading it being met with a frown.
I thoroughly enjoyed this riveting read
And now the next book in this series I really need.
This is my honest review of this brilliant book
I hope it'll encourage you to also give it a look.

This is the third book in the series featuring Jessie Novak but reads well as a stand-alone. Jessie is an ER nurse at a Boston hospital but also assists as a Liaison Officer between the police and the morgue. An unidentified woman falls from the roof of a car park. Everyone thinks it’s suicide but Jessie is suspicious as there appears to be no blood loss and concludes that she has been pushed. When another young woman’s body is found after a similar fall Jessie realises that a serial killer is among them and unbeknown to her he has her in his sights. This is growing into a fantastic series, with interesting characters and plenty of tension that will keep you gripped until the end, I look forward to the next book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This author is wonderful and with every book she gets even more better than before, if that's possible. I have loved every book in this series, all five star reads and this one just raises the bar! Wow! Wish I could give it ten stars!

Jessie loves being an ER nurse - but the thrill of being a forensic nurse calls her.
Jessie is called to the scene of a young woman - an unidentified woman jumped from the roof. With a possible pulse, Jessie follows the victim to the ER, where she is declared deceased.
Leaning towards suicide, the autopsy shows the woman was dead upon hitting the pavement. Bruising on her wrists. Torn fingernails.
Several cases of women committing suicide within months. Jessie is convinced there is a connection.
Great story and suspense. Relatable characters.

I’m really enjoying this concept of an ER nurse helping to solve crimes! Great characters with good development. I’m looking forward to more.

Another great story from Roberta. I am really loving this series following the life story of Jessie and Sam. Great storylines and some lovely sub plots with Rufus.

This book is the third instalment in the Jessie Novak series written by Roberta Gately, set in Boston, Massachusetts. It was a compelling read and I was soon wholly absorbed in the storyline. Jessie is edgy, sharp and a little different to your average protagonist. I like forensic nurse Jessie's intelligence, astuteness and keen sense of observation. As well as Jessie's take, the reader is treated to the viewpoint of the unnamed killer. It was so good and I can't wait for book four!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

It was my second book in the series and I was looking forward to read where the next case will lead us. ER nurse Jessie Novak is trying to help the forensic case between the morgue and Boston PD.

What looks like a suicidal crime soon proves to be a serial killer investigation, as there are more similar cases where our heroine takes part in.

Many twists along the investigation, some rushed decisions from Jessie’s part, lots of going back and forward between each new clue revealed and lots of “I know best and I’m always a step in front of you all” from the killer.

What I liked the most is that we get a feeling of the killer’s POV as there are a few brief chapters told from his thoughts and actions.

It’s always interesting to see how some stories conclude and how the killer’s identity is revealed in the end. Why I knew who he was from early in the story, I enjoyed the book with all the characters and their traits and similarities to real life persons. I liked that while the heroine made some mistakes; she learned from them and I’m looking forward to read the next books in the series.

Forensic nurse Jessie Novak is examining the latest body that came into the ER. The first thing that concerns her is that although the victim was claimed to have jumped to her death, there is definitely some foul play. She is fairly certain that the victim was dead before the supposed jump but she hast to let the medical examiner give the official answer. Forensics might start to answer questions about this death and possibly two others.

While Jessie looks for answers about the woman, she is distracted by a little boy who ended up in the ER. He was all alone and he snatched her heart. In addition to that, Jessie's relationship with Sam is moving forward.

All while Jessie and and her team, as well as Sam, an attorney and the man that just might be her future, look for answers, the story has an unnamed narrator with his nefarious activities towards his victims. He has nothing but negative things towards those to whom wants to harm. Will Jessie end up in the killer's crosshairs?

What a thrilling story and a perfect addition to an already exciting series. I cannot wait for book four to see what Jessie has in store, and this includes her relationship with Sam.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Her Mother's Cry' by Roberta Gately.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Roberta Gately, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 1st November 2021.

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in the 'Jessie Novak' series. I have previously read 'The Frozen Girl' which I also recommend anyone read.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated thatthid book is 'Utterly addictive reading for fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Melinda Leigh.' I am a huge fan of Lisa Regan and Melinda Leigh so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Roberta and if this is half as good as 'The Frozen Girl' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 65 chapters. The chapters medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Massachusetts, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Jessie Novack and the unsub. The benefits of third person perspective especially with multiple points of view are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

Another heart racing page turner from the extremely talented Roberta Gately!!!

This book is well written with good descriptions to help the reader imagine what is going on to the point where you could feel the chill in the morgue making the hairs on your arms raise. The synopsis, title and cover work perfect with the storyline.

This series is unique in the fact that not only is Jessie a nurse but she's also working with the police so you get the benefit of seeing both the medical and police side of things. It is very fast paced with lots going on to keep the reader absorbed throughout. I cannot say I was surprised when it came to the end which was a shame but I figured something wasn't right with a certain character from pretty much when I met them. However, please don't let this out you off as I read several crime novels a week and get pretty suspicious pretty quickly!! Although I wasn't shocked I still enjoyed reading this book and do believe Roberta did alot of medical research which is great to see so congratulations Roberta as several authors don't do their research which can spoil a storyline. I also feel that Roberta has definitely improved her writing technique and picked up the suspense rate from her second book. There is alot of suspense filled momenta in the book and I was on the edge of my seat on severs occasions. It is filled with murder, romance, suspense, tension and friendship. I love that we get to see from the perps perspective and get to learn more about them, finding out why they are doing what they are and what their next move is going to be. I also love the fact that all medical and police terminology were explained in Layman's terms. The chapter numbers also include the dates which make the book more realistic. It is also handy to know the time line of events.

Although this is the third book in the series readers will have absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader

The characters were realistic and strong and I really enjoyed meeting them all again. I also enjoyed getting to know more about Jessie and Sam's characters and watching their relationship develop. It will be interesting to see what happens with them in the next book in this series. I also really enjoyed getting to know Roger , Tony, Donna. Eddie and Rufus who all stood out for me, each their their own unique and likeable personalities. Rufus is such a sweet character and I am really invested in his character. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens between Jess and her mother and seeing if a relationship develops.

Overall an intriguing and page turning crime thriller novel with the perfect mix of police and medical scenes.

Genres covered in this novel include Thriller, Mystery, Romance Novel, Suspense, Noir Fiction, Psychological Fiction, Police Procedural, Urban Fiction, Crime Fiction, Medical Thriller and Medical Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Melinda Leigh.

333 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 4/5 (I LOVED it but due to working out the perp can only honestly give a 4 instead of a 5) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Mother’s Cry,
This is the third novel to feature forensic nurse, Jessie Novak, who splits her time as an ER nurse and liaison between the morgue and Boston PD. Until I read this series I didn’t know this role existed, but it does it does put a different slant on the investigation. Jessie seems to look at things from another perspective which gives a new angle to the enquiries. Jessie gets in some difficult situations due to her independence.
A good read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love this series and with this new book in the series I was overjoyed to read this.

It pulled me in from the start with all the tension and suspense it kept me glued to the edge of my seat all the way through.

The main character is a forensic nurse which is original.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is part of a series. I have not read any of the others, and was able to understand everything. Maybe some of the dynamics would be more understood but it does read well as a stand alone. I found it hard to get into, seemed slow at the beginning and I never understood the title. I did like Jessie, she has so much energy! Seems really good at her job. Not sure about her relationship with Sam. I did like the others involved. The mystery was okay. 3.5 stars I would read other books in this series.

"Her Mother's cry' by Roberta Gately is the third book in the Jessie Novak series. With every book I see the growth in the confidence and the change in character of Jessie and it is so much like seeing a friend blossom in personality right in front of me.

A young woman falls down from a parking garage and due to the circumstances she is taken to the hospital where Jessie is working in the emergency and although the death seems to be a fall, she seems to notice a few injuries or marks that are not coherent with the fall. Jessie also gets offered a job as a nurse investigator due to her past help to the police department. Amidst all these events there are two more cases of young women falling to death. Jessie's observant eye and brain find out a few similarities to a few cases that have happened earlier elsewhere and that is when they realize that it is a serial killer. The whole journey of investigation and also a few changes in her personal life make this a truly interesting and a gripping read.

The story is fast paced with parallel lines of Jessie's personal story. Her battle with her insecurities and also the heart and mind that she brings to the cases. The story follows very well along with clues and the thrill is in guessing who the possible culprit could be.

If you love to read mystery thrillers and also love protagonist with a keen observant mind who bring in heart and soul to the cases that they solve then you will love this story of Jessie Novak.

I thank Bookouture and Netgalley for approving my request to read and review the story and all the opinions expressed are solely mine.

This is turning into a fantastic series which is going from strength to strength.

The characters within this series work well together and it's great to see them and their personalities develop throughout the three books.

An addictive faced paced plot which I found hard to put down had me hooked from the first page to the last, has all the ingredients that is needed for a mind blowing crime thriller.

I absolutely adore this series and always find each book is better than the previous. This is well- written and addictive.

I have devoured this book in just one sitting, I have enjoyed revisiting the familiar characters present in this one.

This is filled with some dark and creepy characters. Gately has a talent for creating this type of individual within her books. I have been completely immersed into this one, unwilling and unable to put this down.

This has a fantastic opening and as always Gately has kept me guessing throughout. I absolutely cannot wait for more in this series.
