Jessica Millstone, while walking her dog Roo late at night, notices unsettling signs from her neighbor, Barbara Draper. Barbara's harsh outburst and Roo’s strange behavior are followed by Barbara’s mysterious death, deemed an accident. Soon after, Jessica’s young daughter Isabelle faces a series of unfortunate incidents, and Jessica starts receiving menacing messages on the neighborhood app.

The novel presents an intriguing concept with its anonymous threats and the idea that not everything is as perfect as it seems in a seemingly idyllic neighborhood. The author excels at depicting the community and its hidden secrets.

However, I found the pace a bit sluggish, with Jessica’s repetitive internal monologue detracting from the suspense. Additionally, the motivations behind the threats felt somewhat flimsy, which impacted my overall engagement with the story.

Despite these issues, there are compelling elements, and if you’re a fan of the genre, it’s worth exploring. I look forward to seeing what the author comes up with next. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Well I’m a little bit speechless. What an absolutely brilliant book from the beginning, right up to the end!

A gripping and compelling read that is difficult to put down. Good characters and plot. I'm new to the author but will look out for more.

This was a fun read. I enjoyed myself while I was reading it, but there were times when I felt like the actions of our main character were a little unbelievable. I think that the plot of the story was interesting but I also felt like the foreshadowing was a little heavy handed. I think that the miscommunication trope was a little excessive as well.
I did have fun reading this story it was an absolute page turner I read this in the whole of 24 hrs which is a feat as a stay-at-home mom of 3. I think that this is a great book for someone just getting into the mystery genre. I also think that if you have read books by this author before and loved their writing style then you will probably love it as well.

This book didn't keep my attention. I found myself putting it down and not picking it back up for days. There were some twists in the end that made it enjoyable.

I really really enjoyed this.
It was very intriguing, mysterious and secretive.

Others might have secrets but……what if you had them too!

I was totally fooled when the author started to reveal certain things, I had several suspects (as you do) and was wildling them down one by one……
Did I prove to be a good detective? Did I heck!

Totally absorbing.

The narration bits set scenes and observations brilliantly and not going overboard.

Fab rounded out characters each totally relatable.

I absolutely love suburban psychological thrillers, this one has been added to the list of those I will recommend! Such a great book!

When a neighbour is murdered, and Jessica Millstone starts to get some odd messages through a local neighbourhood app, it is apparent that something odd is going on. The suburb is full of all the stereotypes: the social-climbers, the nosey, the annoying, the suspicious … Jessica grew up here but doesn’t feel she quite fits in after returning to live in her childhood home. Can she figure out what’s going on?
The story line starts well, but it’s a slow-burn and I just didn’t connect with the characters – Jessica is naïve, gullible and too trusting. In many ways she acts like a teenager rather than a grown woman who has had a career & is now a mother. I found some of her actions unbelievable. I also did not warm to her husband and the best friend who both seemed selfish, untrustworthy and devious and Jessica’s mother was odd. The ending was nicely wrapped up, almost too well, but the final “reveal of the mystery” was weak & not very realistic. There was also quite a lot of repetition – I guess it was meant to mimic Jessica’s thoughts going round in her head as she pondered them, but it made it too slow for me with not enough suspense.

We Live Next Door was my first thriller from Laura Wolfe but certainly wont be my last! She took a unique approach to this using a neighborhood app almost as an additional character in the book .The use of this made this thriller totally unique and kept me on the edge of my seat. I read this entire book at the beach in one day because I couldn't manage to put it down. The characters are so interesting and devious. Despite the long list of characters, Laure Wolfe does an excellent job of introducing them slowly so you can get to now them all and keep them straight. I really liked how she continued to develop each of the neighbors throughout the book so it made it hard to figure out who to trust and who not to trust. There was a massive number of red herrings thrown in here so my mind was constantly reeling. This was a fantastic thriller and I look forward to more by Laura. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

While I was not a huge fan of the plot of this book nor any of the characters, this was an easy read. I was hoping for a thriller that was very suspenseful but I was presented with a story that fell short of my expectations. I felt the character development was not enough to present in the 200 pages the book was written as. I would have liked for the book to be longer in order to adapt these characters and fully personify them further. All in all, I was not the biggest fan but it does not deserve anything less than 2 stars. Hopefully this will appeal to more readers.

I really enjoyed this book, found the story to progress well and the characters were easily likeable. I did have an inkling as to part of the story but I didn't see it going where it did! Very well written a good read! Everything I want in a mystery book

The chats included from the neighborhood app had me cackling, so realistic and captured every neighborhood app perfectly.

The book starts off with a neighbor dying, that one neighbor who hates everyone and everyone hates them. It kept me guessing until the last page!

This book was well written but wasn’t my cup of tea. I tried to get into it but sometimes you can’t force it. Will give this author another try.

How safe is your neighbour hood? Scary psychological thriller with lots of twists, secrets and lies. Who can Jessica trust?

This story really made me question how well I know my own neighbours, I live in a small cul de sac of only 20 houses and the truth is I don't actually know anything about 99% of them!

Definitely a slow burn but once it fully grabbed my attention I was all in, fully captivated and couldn't put it down.

We all know about these neighbourhood apps. Posts about missing cats, bin days, parking wars etc (I deleted myself 🤣). The main character Jessica and her neighbours are all signed up to The Neighbours List app.

When the death of the streets busybody Barbara happens, Jessica starts receiving strange messages via this app which are then promptly deleted. Jessica then starts to question her own relationships and friendships, who can she trust?

This is a classic "whodunnit" with a great twist that for once I didn't actually guess!

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Wow what a book! When a neighbour is found dead it’s ruled as a suicide. But Jessica seems to think that there is more to this than the police think and she tries to do a bit of digging herself. I really enjoyed this book - I really struggled to put it down if I’m honest. I really enjoyed the premise of the ‘neighbour list’ which was a bit like Facebook but for neighbourhoods and how this was brought into the storyline. It really had the theme of who do you trust and can you really trust your neighbours, your friends and even your husband? I especially liked in this book that each character had a flaw and this really led to the whodunnit. This is available on kindle unlimited and I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

Laura Wolfe's We Live Next Door is a book about Jessica Millstone and her family. She moves into her childhood home along with her husband and daughter. Full of secrets, murder, intrigue, the past, and suspense, this thriller will keep you guessing and questioning until the very end. Things and people aren't always as they appear. The main question of the book – do you really know your neighbors? Great read!

We live next door by Laura Wolfe.
You think you know the people next door… What if they know you better?I always dreamed of moving back home to Ridgeview Pines, with its white fences and sloping lawns. I wish it had happened under different circumstances, but now I’m here I feel safe and ready for a fresh start with my little family. The first thing I do every morning is pick up my phone and check The Neighbor List—our local message board. Maybe the people next door know a little too much about where their neighbors are and what they’re doing, but it’s safer that way, isn’t it? And my husband—he wouldn’t dare sneak behind my back with so many eyes watching.Just when I’m beginning to relax, a woman I’ve known since I was small is found dead on the white tiles of her bathroom floor. I watch messages of condolence flood my screen. No one else suspects a thing. But I know that among all these friendly people, watching out for one another, someone knows more than they’re sharing. And I wonder—how far back do they remember, and who’s next?
A good read with good characters. Likeable story. 3*.
