This is the first book I read from this author. The story kept me guessing and the characters were believable, but I thought it was a little wordy. The twisty didn’t surprise me, but overall it was a good read.
This was an engrossing psychological thriller centered on Jessica as she tries to figure out which one of her neighbors is a murderer after a neighbor is killed. I really enjoyed the setting of a fictional suburb; it created a feeling of safety and calmness until something feels just a little out of place. It was satisfying to see the pieces come together at the end! Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for an advanced reader copy of this book for an honest review.
There's a death on the street and Jessica cannot accept that it was an accidental death. There were too many strange things going on leading up the night that Barbara died. Too many neighbors that had been on the receiving end of Barbara's wrath, who might have had it out for her. Laura Wolfe has written a thriller full of twists and turns that hit you when you are least prepared for it! If a suspenseful thriller rifled with neighborhood busybodies is your jam, add We Live Next Door to your list today!
When Jessica moves back to her childhood home with her husband and young daughter Isabelle, she hopes this will be a fresh start for them all. But when her neighbor Barbara dies in her home from a fall, Jessica is suspicious considering she last saw her looking distressed through an upstairs window. Since Barbara was disliked by the neighbors, they have motives to cause her harm. Soon she's caught up with trying to help Barbara's drug-addicted adult son Paul find out what really happened to her. What she discovers is that danger is a lot closer to her home than she realizes.
This is my first time reading this author's books and I thought it was a good read. I love mystery/thriller books that take place in a neighborhood setting. This one has your typical nosy neighbors and ones that have a grudge with others. There were other issues on the side that were intriguing and added to the story. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book.

You will suspect everyone in this book there is that many twists
Thanks NetGalley
It's a good story. Though I did find it a bit slow at times it has some good twists which make it interesting. This genre is by far my favorite so I am always looking for a good puzzle.
Jessica lives in a neighborhood where on the outside, looks like a perfect place to raise a family. However, within the community there is more going on than what meets the eye.
The story follows Jessica who becomes slightly obsessed with a death in her community, believing that it was a case of murder rather than the 'slip and fall' the police state. I was hooked in the beginning of this book, a great foundation was supported with believable characters. I did feel this slipped though, the author followed a script of telling us everything rather than showing us through her writing. At times I did feel a little like the author thought that I, the reader, was dim and needed reminding of what had happened. I didn't feel any shocks or feel myself thinking 'ohmigosh who did this!!' because everything was given to me. I think this author has huge potential though, and I really look forward to her books in the future.
This is a book about Jessica and her family who moves back into her childhood neighbourhood. She is happy being in a safe neighbourhood until something changes. Barbara Draper, one of her neighbours, is found dead. While the police rule it a suicide, Jessica thinks it to be a murder. Thus, the story revolves around her trying to find out what happened to Barbara.
All of her neighbours are hiding secrets and so many people wanted Barbara dead. The ending was something that I didn't see coming, so that was good.
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions mentioned are my own.
Wow, another thrilling ride of a read by Wolfe! Kept me on the edge of my seating, wanting to know more about this deliciously dark family and what they were hiding! Full of fun twists, chilling chills, thrilling thrills, and gasp worthy shocks! Well written, with amazing character development which will grab you by a chokehold and keep you there until you finish! Highly, highly recommend!
Another twisty read and dark secrets that span decades by Laura Wolfe that will have you thinking about how well you really know your family and friends and the people that live in your own neighbourhood!
After moving back to her childhood home with her husband Mark and daughter Isabelle after purchasing it from her mother, Jessica feels safe and ready for a fresh start with her family.
That is until one of the neighbours, Barbara Draper, the neighbourhood whiner is found dead on her bathroom floor. While it is ruled by authorities as an "accident", Jessica is not so sure! She saw something that night and won't let it go... and then the threatening messages begin. Maybe Jessica is on to something and it seems someone isn't happy about it!!
So many red herrings in this one and my mind was reeling with scenarios of whodunit?! While a particular neighbour did raise my suspicion more than others, I absolutely did not see that ending coming!

There’s just something about small town, cosy neighbourhood thrillers that I enjoy reading. The seemingly perfect families and small community where everyone knows each other, but every family has a secret.
This story follows Jessica Millstone who suspects that her neighbour, Barbara Draper’s death is not an accident. She is convinced that someone from the neighbourhood has something to do with this. But who and why? The atmosphere gets eerie as Jessica gets closer to solving the murder but she is also putting herself in danger. On top of that, she has to juggle with her own trauma and family relationship which is taking a toll on her mentally. Who can she trust?
This was off to a great start with the suspense but the plot is pretty underwhelming and repetitive when it comes to Jessica’s thoughts. The reasoning behind the murder was quite weak and also a little far-fetched. Jessica is the epitome of a nosy neighbour who would not let things go. Usually that is fine, but she got annoying after a while.
Overall, there are some parts that I enjoyed but I am not wow-ed by this. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.
We Live Next Door by Laura Wolfe was a really good read and I enjoyed it. This book was fast pace throughout with lots of twists and turns that had me guessing till the end!
I highly recommend this new book by Laura
Big thank you to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily,
This was a good story where Jessica moved back to her home town and murders started occurring. The story was interesting but the thoughts were repetitive, and the pace was slower than what a thriller of this caliber normally ought to be. Overall, it was interesting.
"Perfect for fans of The Couple Next Door, The Woman in the Window, and Behind Closed Doors."
This book was right up my alley, building the perfect amount of creepy suspense with just enough to mess with your head. It's such a question of how well you really know your neighbors, and it's enough to put anyone in a neighborhood into a tailspin.
However, I will say this felt a bit more like Behind Closed Doors. For me, it was predictable with some characters that I just couldn't buy into. The scenarios were a bit too far-fetched to be believable in a "contemporary" type of story.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of "We Live Next Door" in exchange for an honest review.
Overall, there were some good twists and turns in this book. At times I couldn't put it down, but then it seemed to slow down and I lost interest. I definitely did not see some of the events happening, but the ending left me wanting.
Thank you #NetGalley for the Opportunity to read a free e-copy of #WeLiveNextDoor for my honest review. This is my first book by author Laura Wolfe.
Laura Wolfe is an excellent writer, the storyline was intriguing full of twists and turns, secrets and great characters.
A great murder mystery.
2.5 ⭐
Small town and neighborhood murder mysteries are my favorites. I just love the idea of a community of people where no one really knows about the others as much as they think they do - such a great premise for a mystery.
This book started great and I really though I am going to love it. The narration was good and it quickly pulled me in.
But the more I got into the book, the less I believed the story. Someone dies and Jessica and others just start to jump to conclusions even though there was absolutely no reason to suspect a foul play. And that wasn't even the only way in which character's behavior fell short of convincing, just the most obvious one.
Though the story wasn't bad, there were too many far-fetched theories for my taste. The author sure struggled to make of it the most she could. But it just wasn't believable. Not the whole thing, but the way the characters handled it.
All in all, this was an ok book, but not one I’ll remember.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of We Live Next Door by Laura Wolfe in exchange for an honest review.
We Live Next Door is a phycological thriller set in what seems to be a welcoming neighborhood on the outskirts of Detroit. Jessica Millstone and her husband have moved back to her childhood home, buying it from her mother when she was ready to downsize. She thinks she will be able to give her daughter Isabelle the idyllic childhood she remembers having on this street. But the murder of a widely disliked neighbor, Barbara, sets Jessica to wondering whether life is actually so idyllic on Mapleview Lane.
The author uses the device of texts from a neighborhood thread called The Neighbors List, similar to what we call Nextdoor where I live, that allows neighbors to communicate with one another. Here we find out more clues about neighbors, as well as it is used as a way to threaten Jessica. I thought it was a clever way of breaking up the first person dialogue, and it really captures the various characters you find on these sorts of threads: the neighborhood do-gooder, the nasty ones, the angry ones, and the one who tries to keep everyone in line.
I got strong vibes of Desperate Housewives from Jessica, who was very plucky in her pursuit of crime. We have other characters who we are not sure of their motives: her husband, her best friend, her mother, the babysitter, and the new neighbor next door who is too good looking. I especially liked the way the author handled the relationship between Jessica and her mother. I thought it portrayed all the emotions well: the love, the irritation, the role reversal, and the support.
There are plenty of red herrings during this neighborhood mystery to set your suspicions off in the wrong direction. I enjoyed reading this fairly light mystery. It was a pleasant change of pace from some of the more grim and gory mysteries I've read lately.
Thank you to NetGalley, author Laura Wolfe, and Bookouture for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love small communities, with their perfect picket fences and gossip and imperfect secrets, so I was immediately drawn to this book. The book could do with faster pacing and less repetition, but it was a good psychological thriller nonetheless.
Just adore this author. She delivers with every book. This one was just sound tinglingly thrilling. So so good. I read it in one breathless sitting. Just absolutely brilliant.
