We long to be seen, soothed, safe and secure.
This is Curt Thompson’s premise in his latest book.  He encourages us to look for beauty in our daily routines, but perhaps even more so in our relationships.

The first half of the book was especially helpful and I was really struck by his people experience and knowledge as a psychiatrist keen to see creative renewal in people’s lives.  The book leans heavily on the importance of group engagement or as he terms it, “a confessing community.”  As such, the reader often feels like a fly on the wall in a group therapy meeting. 😬 Still, we learn from others and that is exactly why the vulnerability of each other is a gift to ourselves.

I've read many psychology books, but no Christian ones before! It was great to finally read one!

I especially enjoyed the cases and learning about how he councils.

Main learnings:
Seen, soothed, safe, and secure.
Boundaries.
Psychology. God-focused.

Absolutely loved the art he references by Makoto Fujimura. I'm really going to need to read one of his books too!

This was a really great read!

Finally, a book that’s in-depth in both Christianity and psychology. I didn’t feel I was reading a book that was half one or the other-yet a beautiful dance while incorporating two worlds into one.
