Good book! It took me a minute for this book to get there, but once it did! The book was great! This book had suspense, intrigue, and lots of twists and turns! Like I said , I kept coming back to the book because in the beginning in kind of went a bit slow but I'm glad I finally read on! It ended up being a really good book! I definitely recommend reading this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
The things that I liked about the book were that the story was quite intense and kept me on the edge. I didn't want to put the book down. It might seem that the culprit is obvious but then more information is introduced and it made me doubt it so it could have gone either way. It was easy to read and relate to most of it except with the below. There are some holes in the story and a similar plot has been used by many British crime novelists but I have still quite enjoyed it.
The things that I have not enjoyed were how insecure and selfish Ginny appeared to be at first. In the first chapter her insecurities and whining are so extreme that it is hard to continue and it made me doubt whether I will find her likeable at all, but she gets better than the story goes on. Perhaps more attention could have been given to explain how women could be traumatized by pregnancy. Did she really have a PTSD?
I prefer to connect and sympathize with the main protagonists but sadly despite some sympathy due to his love of his daughter in some chapters, Cameron never truly redeemed himself in my eyes. I wouldn't want to be married to someone like him.
Thanks to NetGalley for the free copy in exchange of a honest review.
An ok read but a bit of a slow burner for me. I guessed the perpetrator which was a disappointment but it still had a few twists which kept it interesting and it picked up pace which was good. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

Missing Daughter by Kiersten Modglin is an unputdownable domestic thriller that is the perfect fall-time read! You might be wondering why I would refer to this book as a "comfort read." The reason is, Kiersten Modglin has become my favorite author in the thriller genre! I recently blew through a ton of her books, including her bestseller, The Arrangement. Although they are thrillers, her books also have a comforting quality that is very rare to find. When I saw that her new book is coming out, I knew that I had to read it right away!
This book revolves around a normal, everyday couple: Ginny and Cameron. Ginny is a regular mother and wife whose daughter Skylar goes missing one day after her birthday party. After her daughter goes missing, Ginny starts to wonder how this could have happened. If her daughter was taken during the night, she would have cried out, and Ginny would have woken up immediately. But is her husband Cameron hiding secrets from her? Can Ginny be trusted herself? Or is someone else to blame for their missing daughter?
Here is a chilling excerpt from the Prologue:
"I took her because I had to.
Because I had no choice.
No one would understand it, I know that. If anyone found out what I've done, they'd hate me. Blame me. Want me to be taken away.
If the truth came out, it would be the end of everything for me. The life I've built, the happiness I'm working on, the family I envision for myself. In the blink of an eye, it would all be gone.
I can't let that happen. I won't.
I've come too far. Sacrificed too much."
Overall, Missing Daughter, par the course for Kiersten Modglin, is an amazing domestic thriller that lives up to the rest of her ouvre. I am not kidding when I say that she has become my favorite author in the thriller genre. I a now a lifelong fan and will read anything that she writes in the future. One highlight of this book, as mentioned previously, is the amazing, comforting quality of this book. I loved sitting on my couch with a cup of hot chocolate, ready to devour this amazing plot! Another highlight was the plot itself, which has plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of domestic thrillers in general, you won't regret checking out this book when it comes out in November!
Missing Daughter by Kiersten Modglin is an entertaining if not pretty predictable domestic thriller that follows three characters after the disappearance of the main character’s three year old daughter.
This is my third Kiersten Modglin book and I turn to them as reliable, entertaining reads that I usually finish in the same day. She has a very easy reading style that tends to lean toward the “tell” vs. “show” which can sometimes slow down the pacing and suspense because things are just described, rather than how the characters feel or interpret them.
The book explores, what I felt as someone who had postpartum depression, a character struggling with the onslaught of emotions that come from a challenging birth and the new role of motherhood. As someone who also experienced a very difficult pregnancy and subsequent PPD, I felt the portrayal was accurate.
All three character POV’s are pretty unreliable and are all hiding secrets from each other, though it becomes pretty evident what has happened with the missing daughter about half-way through the book, though Modglin does throw in some distractions to have you questioning your guesses.
I found this book not as fast-paced as some of her other books, but was still engrossed and killed this book in a single sitting. All in all, I found it an enjoyable escape and a solid addition to Modglin’s growing cannon of thrillers. Thank you to the publishers at Bookouture and Netgalley for this e-ARC of Missing Daughter.
This psychological thriller kept me anxiously turning the pages as the plot developed from page to page! The characters were so well detailed that I had a very hard time putting this fantastic read down! I always enjoy reading what this author writes!

Missing Daughter is another spectacular novel from Kiersten Modglin.
In the state of Tennessee, a small family lives on the edge of the tree line, surrounded by acres and acres of forest. Ginny, her husband Cameron, and their daughter, Skylar, are celebrating Skylar’s third birthday with their friends and family. But later that night, after an excellent day, Skylar is kidnapped straight from her bed. But the doors and windows were locked. Only Ginny and Cameron had access to the house. Who took Skylar, and why?
As Ginny and Cameron struggle to find their missing daughter, we are transported back in time, prior to the kidnapping, and it is here that we will begin to understand what led up to this point.
Told from alternating POVs, I wasn’t sure who to trust, if anyone at all. But while I wasn’t completely surprised by the ending, there were definitely a few unexpected twists, and as always, the ending leaves you hanging at all the what-ifs!
I really loved the therapist aspect of this storyline, as well as the attention it brings to how severe and debilitating postpartum depression can be. If you or a mother you know is suffering, please reach out for help. Thank you for another excellent and well told story, Kiersten!
Missing Daughter releases November 8th!
Missing Daughter has all the necessary components for an entrancing read. Ginny has struggled in her relationships with her daughter and husband. Her friend and therapist Alex has been right there for her. Except now her world is crashing, her daughter is gone and the two closest people around her have lied to her. I was suspicious of one character from the first but had not expected the full scope of,the story. I also predicted the end because well, I knew it couldn’t end in one way. It’s a good story about trust, betrayal, believing in yourself, and relatives. Some people you must cannot get away from.
This story is more than a thriller. It shows the struggles some people go through in their lives due to things that have happened to them. There are three main characters in this book...Ginny the mother, Cameron the father, and Alex, Ginny's therapist and friend. Ginny has been struggling with motherhood since giving birth. She tries, but things don't work out well for her. Cameron is also trying to do everything he can to help out, but the pressure is getting to him also. But when their daughter becomes missing is when, I felt things really start coming 'out of the closet'. Let's not forget Alex, the therapist. She is also a friend and Ginny depends on her more than her husband. But where is the daughter? An eye opening story to be sure! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Let me start by saying that I love Kiersten Modglin’s stories, she ALWAYS delivers! Her books are all so different; some are compulsively fast reads with twists to knock your socks off, some are romance that rival Colleen Hoover, and some require a little more thinking because there are some underlying messages being revealed which is the premise for this one and I loved every powerful word! In this story, Modglin tackles mental health issues, women’s health issues, motherhood, marriage, and trying to put on a “brave face” in a highly competitive society. Heavy right? But in true KMod style she explores these issues in a page flipping thriller about a every parents worst nightmare. Another winning story with an a** kicking ending, but I expect nothing less when I open a KMod book!
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture, and Kiersten Modglin for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

After almost 30 books from this author, I felt confident I knew where she was going with this one...a mother struggling to bond with her young daughter after a difficult birth, a deep postpartum depression, and just a general awkwardness with the whole motherhood thing...this child isn't "missing"; she's dead. Or so I thought. Kiersten Modglin isn't called the Queen of Twists for nothing. This book took me on a ride I wasn't expecting.
MISSING DAUGHTER had a more somber, introspective tone than her previous books. The story begins in present day with Ginny and Cameron celebrating their daughter Skylar's birthday party with friends and family. Skylar is an exhausting child who, at three years old, still wakes up almost hourly each night. Ginny is still struggling to bond with her, recalling that most days, she felt like an outsider looking in. She is resentful of Cameron's close relationship with Ginny and has turned to therapy to help her cope.
The morning after the birthday party, Skylar is nowhere to be found. Cameron and Ginny accuse each other, and while the desperation to find Skylar builds, Ginny's therapist Alex takes a more active role, urging Ginny to stand up for herself against Cameron's accusations. The tension builds to a shattering and devastating climax that will leave you questioning just what it means to be a mother.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book. I wanted to read this because the author gets accolades on Facebook. I'm sorry to say the book didn't really grab me. The characters were not likable at all! Maybe I read too many thrillers, but nothing that happened in the book surprised me, and the story was so-so. The POVs were all in the first person, so there was a lot inner dialogue but not much action or insights. 2.5 stars rounded up to three. I will try another book by this author to see if this one was just not to my taste.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an eARC of Missing Daughter, Kiersten Modglin's newest book that comes out on November 8th.
KM is an auto-buy author for me, so I was ecstatic to see her latest on NetGalley and to have the opportunity to review it before pub day.
Like all of her other books I've read, I was immediately immersed from the beginning and couldn't put the story down until I finished it. It's rare to not read her books in less than 24 hours, and this one was no exception. I did manage to guess a couple of the twists, but as always they were perfectly thought out and placed. Parents, beware, this one will give you the creeps!
Psychological thriller that is more about the mom than the crime. A lot of time is spent on the background of ‘the adults in the room’ with several paths presented. The author does a good job of choosing a twisty one before we get to the end.
I really enjoyed this one! Kiersten Modglin has such a talent for intrigue. I felt this book gave a unique platform to postpartum depression through a thriller lens. I felt so much for Ginny and knew she wanted to get better but was fighting her body daily and it's never just black and white/right or wrong as it can often be portrayed in media or talked about by mom groups who want to parent other people's children. I enjoyed that we got to dive equally into the characters of Ginny and Cameron and see what their reactions to each other were and their progress in communicating. Sometimes Kiersten really shocks you with a twist and sometimes it's more of a slow unraveling to be savored.. This was in the savory category to me. In my opinion the book was more about unraveling of family secrets and trying to unite as partners to save their daughter and learning who they were after trauma and it was a journey. I would recommend!
My Review:
I could not put this book down for the life of me. Be prepared to get nothing done while reading this one. I became obsessed with this author after reading Just Married. That one was a total mind bender and I was hooked on this author after that. She’s like a drug that you try to get off of but just can’t do it. She is now one of my favorites and I’m determined to read every last one of her books. When the Cover Reveal took place I just knew I had to read this one. The Blurb had me hooked from the very first sentence. I love missing kids stories and this one sure did not disappoint. Some of the characters were unlikable at times but that’s what made this book great. I always look forward to reading about someone else’s problems that are not mine. I got so lost in this book that time stopped. What made this book truly special though was that ending. It was the last few pages you are like what, what, what!!!!! I even reread it to make sure I was right. Could not believe it. This is why I like this author so much. She surprises me at every turn. I can’t wait for her next book.
Lastly, the characters, plot, and the ending of this book made this an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend this book and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Missing Daughter by Kiersten Modglin
A roller coaster of a great read about what must be every parent worse nightmare. Your child has gone missing , arguably the terror for every parent.
Brilliantly wrote about by this author , fast paced , heart thumping , full of suspense. It will keep you gripped to the very end.
Let me begin by saying that Kiersten Modglin is by far one of the best writers in the mystery/thriller category. She knows how to write a creepy plot that keeps the reader hooked. Missing Daughter is no different! The plot of a missing child may seem overdone (I was skeptical at first), but this story is unlike others. This book includes mental illness, complicated relationships, & an ending that is most likely to surprise even the most read reader. I highly recommend reading Missing Daughter (and all of Kiersten Modglin’s other books!!)
This breathtakingly good psychological thriller is as heart-rending as it is shocking. Dealing with the horror of a missing child this story will resonate not only with parents but with anyone who has ever had the responsibility of looking after a child. The author had me hooked by the end of the first chapter and I was unable to put the book down until the very last line. This was the first book I have read by this author but I plan to check out her back catalogue while keeping my eyes peeled for her next novel.
Kiersten Modglin has written another great book
am I surprised?? no.
This had me thinking I knew what was going on and even though I kind of did..there were so many twists that kept it great enough to shock you.
She never fails to make the story line go off to somewhere to wouldn't think of.
Another fantastic book.
