I have read and loved a lot of books by this author but this one was only so so. I couldn’t really relate to the main character.

It was the title that grabbed me with this novel and it does not disappoint. The book is gripping from the outset and without wanting to give away any spoilers, I was already on the edge of my seat.

We meet Ginny at Skylar’s 3rd birthday party, where I had an instant connection with the character. It’s clear Ginny struggles but particularly, since Skylar’s birth, she’s struggled to make a maternal connection with her daughter and with this comes a bagful of guilt because her husband and her daughter have bonded and she clearly feels excluded.

The chapter where Ginny realises Skylar is missing is just so beautifully and simply written but the impact is monumental.

The book does not slow down as you are taken down the rabbit hole of Ginny and her husband Cameron’s life since the birth of Skylar, the depression Ginny has suffered from since, the frustration of Camerons and Ginny’s growing friendship with Alex. I loved the character of Ginny. She makes no bones about life and her simplicity and flaws is on display for all to see. Likewise, the characters of Cameron and Alex are both honest and at times quite humbling and feel very real.

I was completely immersed in the story as it gets to the revelation.

The authentic writing style is fast paced and totally page turning stuff. The ending felt as though it was full of suspense, most definitely keeping me on my toes.
All in all, a good read that I would recommend.

Missing Daughter, Kiersten Modglin (356 pages)
Genre: Psychological thriller, domestic suspense, domestic drama
Rating: 3.5 stars (rounded up)

Kiersten Modglin is the bestselling author of over twenty-five books. Missing Daughter is her latest standalone thriller. This is the second book I’ve read by this author, the first being The Missing.

The plot follows Ginny and Cameron, parents to three-year-old, Skylar. On the morning following Skylar’s birthday party, Ginny and Cameron wake to find her bed empty and their daughter missing. I went in expecting a mystery thriller but instead got a complex, layered and emotionally intense portrayal of the complexities of motherhood and marriage. How well can we trust those we are closest too and how well can we trust ourselves. To find their daughter, Ginny and Cameron will need to confront their own struggles and do whatever it takes to save their child.

Told in alternating chapters from Ginny and Cameron we get to learn about and hear of events from both sides of the marriage. Both characters inner thoughts, motivations and actions are unique, relatable and sympathetic. I found I couldn’t choose who I connected with more.

The pace I found a little slower than I’d have liked. We get a lot of back story of events around Skylar’s birth and early years and of the six months leading up to Skylar going missing. While this was important to the plot, I would have liked to know more about the actual events of her going missing before diving into the history.
The plot was a little predictable at times and I found I guessed early on who the culprit was if not the exact motivations. There were some minor red herrings and distractions to keep you guessing. There was one final twist which I didn’t see coming and lead to a satisfying ending.

Overall, this was a solid domestic/family drama with some elements of mystery and suspense. It was easy to read with thoughtful themes that while sensitive were done well.

Trigger Warning: Post-natal depression, mental health

Thank you to the author, Keirsten Modglin, the publisher Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book.

Wow! Kiersten Modglin’s Missing Daughter was packed with family drama, tension, and many unexpected twists! I could totally relate to Ginny, who is struggling to balance it all - be a fun, exciting Mom to her daughter Skylar, a good wife, and happy with herself. I’ve never read a thriller that really touched on mental health issues, especially postpartum depression. I thought it was really interesting. Many women might be able to relate to how Ginny was feeling, and wanting to be 100% for her family. Ginny’s therapist, Alex was pretty likable at first, but she’s got some deep dark secrets that come to light towards the end of the book. Cameron, Ginny’s husband wasn’t my favorite, but kept my attention because he was hiding many secrets of his own. My anxiety level was high and I was on the edge of my seat speed reading to find out if they were ever going to find Skylar. This book had so many plot twists it was incredible! I’ve read one other book by Kiersten Modglin, and this one by far is my favorite!
Must read this intense psychological thriller!!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this e-ARC!

I will be posting my review on Instagram @thrillersandcoffee

I have lost count of the number of Kiersten's books I've read this year! This one had a delicious slow burn to the domestic suspense, making you question everyone and everything! Towards the end, I thought I had figured out the ending but the typical Kiersten twists just kept coming and I was left shaking my head at her amazing imagination! And the ending. Man. I shivered from the creepiness! Fans of The Push will love this one.

Expecting the usual thriller plot with twist I settled down for a good read, thinking I knew what was going to happen. But Wow- what a read, what a pace and what a twist.! I was hooked from the beginning and did not see it coming. It certainly stands apart for me from the usual pyschological thriller. Definitely one of the best I’ve read in a while. Highly recommend it.

“When I wake up with the sun in my eyes the morning after my daughter’s birthday party, I know something is very wrong. I go straight to her room but feel a surge of panic when I see an empty bed. Downstairs everything is totally quiet, and the front door is locked. Why didn’t I hear her scream? Who took our little girl? “

Another thrilling, page turner, twisty ride with Kiersten Modglin!! This story unfolds perfectly as we experience the kidnapping of Cameron and Ginny’s daughter Skylar on the night of her third birthday party and then immediately go back 6 months alternating POV between the couple and Ginny’s new friend, Alex. As we learn about the couple and try to figure out what could have happened to their daughter, everybody is possibly a suspect. Ginny, a stay at home mom struggling with postpartum depression and to connect with her three year old daughter, befriends Alex at the park who quickly turns into her therapist. Cameron is the bread winner who has been working from home to help raise their daughter and provide support for Ginny when she is having a bad day. Alex is a friend, turned therapist who meets Ginny and Skylar every day for a play date with her niece. The more we learn about all of these characters, the more muddled the narrative becomes and everything and everyone is in question.

As a huge fan of domestic and psychological thrillers, this book delivered! The characters were likable and I even felt manipulated by them! Every time I thought I had something figured out, the next page would prove me wrong. The short chapters made it hard to put down! It was an exciting, compulsive read that I have come to expect from the queen of thrillers, Kiersten Modglin!

Thank you to netgalley and bookoutoure for the digital ARC! Make sure to get your copy November 8.

This is a psychological, suspense story that quickly escalates and you are on the edge of your seat not believing what is happening!
Ginny has had postpartum depression ever since she almost died giving birth to Skylar almost three years ago.
She is trying to feel better and resume some normalcy. It is not easy when all she wants is to sleep.
When she starts therapy, she finally feels that she is being helped. This therapist actually feels like a friend. Things are getting better, so they seem.
But....
On Skylar's third birthday, following a birthday party, Ginny looks in the bedroom and Skylar is gone!
Where is she and could someone have gotten in the house and actually kidnapped her? Why?

This is an amazing twisted journey we take and one that you will never figure out until this book is almost completed!
It is definitely a quick read! Well done!

This was the first book by this author that I was able to somewhat predict the ending! As always, she did a great job, however, this one didn't have as many twists and turns as her other books.

holy moly! Kiersten never disappoints and Missing Daughter is no exception. This book took so many twists and turns, your head just spins for a few hundred pages! Even if you can guess the whodunit, Kiersten always paints a wild backstory and I will always read her books!

I have always been a huge fan of Kiersten Modglin and thankfully the queen of psychological thrillers pumps these books out so fast I never have to wait to long for the next book. As always, Modglin never disappoints. Modglin has always been an auto buy author for me and even after concluding Missing Daughter, I know I will be buying this hard copy on the release date to add to my collection.

Missing Daughter is a heart racing novel filled with twists and turns that you will never be able to prepare yourself for. What happened to Skylar?

How far will a mother go to save her daughter? Or is it the daughter that needs saving from the mother?

I cant even begin to describe how incredible this book is. I literally chewed my fingers down to the skin.

I am sure I am not alone in my love for Kiersten Modglin and if you havent read any of her novels you are missing out. I highly recommend Missing Daughter but also all of her previous novels as well. 5 stars !

The Queen of thrillers has done it again! I love Kiersten’s books. Her writing is just the way I like it, keeping me page turning and always surprising me with her twists.

The chapters are written mainly from the point of view of the main characters, Ginny and Cameron. Written in present day and a few months earlier, the chapters flowed well and tied the past and present together perfectly making it easy to follow.

Ginny is suffering from post natal depression and struggles to connect fully with her daughter Skylar. Cameron is not a very supportive husband and doesn’t seem to understand Ginny’s state of mind. He suggests therapy for Ginny but she tries a couple of therapists and doesn’t go back. She then meets Alex at the park and they become friends. Ginny finds talking to Alex is really helping her and it soon becomes clear that Alex is actually a therapist so she agrees to talk to her in her professional capacity.

After Skylar’s Birthday party, the little girl goes missing and the race is on to find her. Will they find her in time and who has taken her?

Although I guessed some of the storyline, I wasn’t expecting the twists. I certainly didn’t see the ending coming so thanks once again Kiersten for writing yet another jaw dropping story. Can’t wait to read the next one!

If you haven’t read any of Kiersten’s books then I suggest you start now.

Many thanks to netgalley, the publishers and the author for an arc.

I love Kiersten Modglin's books, and I was happy to have the opportunity to review one of her books prior to the public launch.

First thing I'll say is I knew something wasn't right with Alex. For a therapist, she had an issue with establishing boundaries. I didn't like that she started seeing Cameron as a client.

I figured she had something to do with Skyler's disappearance, but I didn't anticipate the twist about Alex and Ginny being sisters.

Overall it was a good read, and I enjoyed it. However, Cameron doesn't deserve to be forgiven for cheating a second time. Kick that guy to the curb.

Reading Between the Wines book review #112/115 for 2021:
Rating: 3 1/2 🍷 🍷 🍷 (rounded up to 4)
Book 📱: Missing Daughter
Author: Kiersten Modglin
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES on November 8, 2021!!!

Sipping thoughts: When Skylar goes missing from her bedroom in the middle of the night, I couldn’t help but accuse Ginny-the mother with extreme post-partum, Cameron-the dad that seems too attached to his daughter, the therapist, the neighbors, the grandparents, the aunt, the uncle, heck even the mailman for that matter. This is what KMod makes you do-second guess yourself. But honestly, this time the person I chose as the guilty party ended up being correct but WOOH, I did not, COULD not guess the reason. Another great KMod book and can’t wait on the next one!

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @KierstenModglinAuthor and @Bookouture for an advanced copy of @MissingDaughter.

I've heard so much about Kiersten Modglin in different Facebook groups so when I saw she had an upcoming release on NetGalley, I decided to request it. I liked the writing style and tore through the book very quickly. Unfortunately, it was pretty predictable, although there were a few good twists. And I thought the ending was great. So I will definitely check out more of her books.

"If I'd known that those moments might've been my last with her, you couldn't have pried me away"

Once again, Ms. Modglin delivers an amazing thriller that keeps you glued to every page!

My heart broke for Ginny and how hard she was struggling and how committed she was to healing. I went back and forth with my emotions toward Cameron. He was a doting father, for sure, but he got on my bad side a bit too. I'm sure you'll figure out why. As a parent myself, I can't imagine the horror they were going through, but the mystery remained - what happened? Well, you'll have to read it to find out!

I'm not going to give away anything here, but needless to say, you'll be shocked by the ending! Who am I kidding, I'm shocked at the ending of every one of Ms. Modglin's books!! She truly is the Queen of Twists and Turns!

If you haven't read any of her books, you are missing out. BIG TIME! Don't wait another minute and grab this one! Heck, grab any of hers!! You won't be disappointed!!

“Missing Daughter” is another head scratching thriller from Kiersten Modglin. I was afraid to start reading because anything to do with missing children makes me nervous. I felt sorry for Ginny who was still suffering from postpartum depression three years after her daughter Skylar was born. She had so many thoughts swirling around her mind that some days it was hard for her to get out of bed. Ginny was at her wits end until she met Alex, a therapist, at the park one day. Alex began treating her and she was the first person who really understood how Ginny felt. Alex seemed too good to be true and as their sessions continued, Ginny became dependent on her and the time they spent together. I kept my eye on Alex throughout the book because I sensed that she was becoming too close to Ginny, and I wanted to know why.

Ms. Modglin captured Ginny’s pain and her husband Cameron’s confusion over the circumstances surrounding their missing daughter. I read this compelling story on a sunny, Fall afternoon and I was hoping for a happy ending. I was afraid as I turned the pages and I found myself reading as fast as I could towards the final outcome. My mind was racing as I put together what I knew so far with what I thought would happen. I analyzed every conversation and sly glance between the characters so I could determine who took Skylar and the reasoning behind it. Once again, I was stumped by the author who surprised me at every turn. All the characters seemed guilty to me and I didn’t trust them, but it wasn’t until the final scene did I understand what had truly transpired.

Yet another page turner from the queen of twisty thrillers, I swear I can always count on KMod when I’m in the mood for an unputdownable thriller and this was no exception. Missing children stories are nothing new but the author puts her own twisted spin on things here and I am into it! When a child disappears the police always look at the parents, much like when a married person vanishes the spouse is always the first suspect and the added tension this added to Ginny and Cameron’s already contentious relationship was so great. I had the who figured out fairly easily but I wasn’t too bothered because the why was so well done, it was emotionally charged and complicated and ultimately satisfying. She’s a go to author for me like I said earlier and this didn’t disappoint!

3.5 ⭐️

I struggled to get though this book. Whether it was a me problem or a book problem, I’m not sure. The synopsis had me so excited, but it was just kind of boring.

Ginny and Cameron’s 3 year old daughter goes missing the night of her birthday party and the rest of the book takes place over the course of a few days while they try and find her. There were some flash backs to a few months prior which I did enjoy and have the story more substance.

I felt like the plot was pretty predictable and I knew about half way though what was going to happen, but overall, it was a good read and Kiersten Modglin’s writing was amazing like usual. I can’t wait to read more by her.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
