This is a good psychological thriller with hidden truths, betrayals, lies, jealousy, a kidnapping and quite a few twists. Ginny is suffering from post partem depression, resulting in her not forming a strong bond with her daughter, frustrating her husband. How will this effect her life? In walks a new friend, but is she really friend or foe? The book was well written but felt it started out a bit slow paced, then everything goes into chaos. At that point, couldn't put it down. Character development is excellent. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my honest voluntary review.
While Missing Daughter was an entertaining read, I found it quite predictable. There weren't many twists or reveals that I didn't see coming. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I did not find the ending as shocking as some other readers seem to have found. About 2/3 into the book, the pace slows significantly before finally picking back up towards the end of the book. Overall, it wasn't bad, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped.
Wow! I really did not see that ending coming. I thought I had the plot figured out multiple times but the twists kept coming. This is definitely a book that you will not want to put down.
This started out promising with what seems to be 2 unreliable parents narrating and a third we don’t know until later. Toward the 3/4 mark is where it both slowed down and sped up. I was frustrated with the arguments because they were so drawn out but they were finally being had which was leading to secrets coming out. I figured out the twist which isn’t always a deal breaker for me but it just seemed to fall flat after the drama and lead ups. This is great if you prefer domestic thrillers as it was laid out and wrapped up neatly. But if you’re looking for something crazier and even more thriller rather than suspense then this might let you down like it did me. It wasn’t bad I just wasn’t totally hooked however I do believe anyone who loves domestic thrillers will feel much differently. I did read it fairly quickly and was invested in the story but just wasn’t an absolute favorite.
In Missing Daughter, we meet a young couple whose three-year-old daughter disappears the day after her birthday party. Ginny (mom) and Cameron (dad) have had their ups and downs throughout their marriage, but they do love their daughter, even though Ginny has problems showing her affection due to postpartum depression.
Throughout the book, chapters written from the main characters' points of view, make it a gripping read. There's truth, lies, and more.
This is the first Kiersten Modglin book I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks, Bookouture and Netgalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I JUST read my first book by Kiersten Modglin and I can finally see what all the hype is about her! I've heard SO much about her and wasn't sure how this one was going to go but holy fluff flying animal crackers! I get it!
This book was unbelievable. I was sucked in from the beginning. The turns and twists were countless and just when I thought I had it figured out (three times I might add!) the ending was unreal! I felt so many emotions reading this. I couldn't turn pages fast enough. Absolutely brilliance! One of the best psychological thrillers I've read. Has everything and more you look for! Taking mental illness and a missing daughter to new heights! Question everything. Ahhh! Loved it!!
Thank you to NetGalley to read this before the release date of November 2021.
This was 5 / 5 stars for me!
I received this arc through netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
What can I say, wow what a great book I stayed up late into the night to finish it.
We meet Ginny, her husband cameron and their daughter Skylar, Ginny suffered with depression after a difficult pregnancy and birth. Along comes Alex who is her friend and therapist, but is Alex all she seems?
Missing Daughter by Kiersten Modglin was an enjoyable fast-paced psychological thriller. Told from alternating perspectives of a Mom and Dad, the storyline unfolded in a way that kept me turning pages until the end. Full of flawed characters and damaged relationships, the book illustrates how easy it is to not appreciate what we have until it is gone. I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable read and would recommend this book to a friend. I look forward to more by Kiersten Modglin.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Bookouture and #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Thrills, turns, suspenseful, twists.
Missing Daughter by Kiersten Modglin
I give this book 4 stars
When I wake up the morning after my daughter’s birthday party, I know something is very wrong. I go straight to her room, I see an empty bed.
My husband says I’ve been struggling since Skylar was born and that sometimes I forget things.
My therapist says I need to stand up for myself. She wants me to confront my husband. Is he hiding something?
But as the hours race by I soon realize I was totally wrong about everything that happened that night. All I know is this: I’ll do whatever it takes to save my child.
Will you believe me?
This is a twisted domestic thriller, involving family, marriage, secrets and mistakes. The books past and present storyline alternates between Ginny,Cameron and Alex points of view…….but who is telling the truth and what’s being hidden!
This was a great read with short chapters that make you want to keep turning the pages
With thanks to Netgalley, Kiersten Modglin and Bookouture for my chance to read and review this book

I was awake whole night.
The story revolves around Skylar, a young girl of Ginny and Cameron, a happily married couple with their day to day life problems, to whom Skylar is adorable. After the birthday celebration party, she goes missing. Someone has taken her. But who and why?
Are there any secrets in their marriage? Or someone wants something else from them?
Told from three POV's of Ginny, Cameron and Alex this story is gripping enough to make a reader intrigued about what will happen next.
I loved the characters of Ginny and Alex. They were superb. Others were ok.
What I Like?:-
1 Narration, it held me till the end.
2 Characters, Alex's character was really creepy.
3 The ending, it was interesting.
What I Don't Like?:-
1 The concept. Although the story was good but this missing concept is often used.
2 Some chapters could be more crispy. Therapy sessions were making it a little bit boring.
Overall it's a good novel and I think everyone can read it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy of this psychological thriller.
I read this book really quickly in one sitting, I just couldnt put it down. It was tense, twisty and unpredictable and when I thought i knew where the storyline was going it changed and left me with my mouth hanging open. I really enjoyed it

I discovered Kiersten Modglin during lockdown and must say I have really enjoyed most of her books, they are nice, quick easy thriller reads that don't mess with your head too much. Some of the twists and turns the reader guesses and sometimes not. I was thrilled to receive an e-ARC of Missing Daughter.
Missing Daughter isn't my favourite book by Modglin but was still a decent thriller read. When Ginnys daughter goes missing after her 3rd birthday party, Ginny and her husband Cameron don't know what to think it who to trust. Missing Daughter is told from both Ginny and Camerom viewpoints, the first half of the novel is the months leading up to Skylars disappearance when Ginny started seeing a therapist - Alex to help her with her post natal depression. All of the characters are unreliable, making it hard to determine who is telling the truth and what secrets they are all hiding. I enjoyed trying to unravel everything that was going while at the the same time trying to put all the pieces together and figure out what happened and who was telling the truth.

While we still have the same fast paced mystery building we’re used to with Kiersten Modglin, I felt like this one touched base on real life a bit more than her usual stories. It also had a bit slower build. A good first 45% of this book had us hearing the thoughts and feeling and therapy sessions of our main character. Though it wasn’t as crazy and dramatic in the first half as I’m used to with this author, I really appreciated the character build this offered. It set the tone for me to wonder how deeply she is affected with post-partem depression and mom guilt. The pace and crazy twists really start to build during the last 40% of the story and kept me turning the pages trying to figure out how the little pieces would fit together. It was quite a crazy build and ending to a story that touched a bit more on real life experiences after having a child.
I have heard so many great things about Kiersten Modglin books and this was my first one by her and it did not disappoint! This was a page turner I couldn't put down. It kept me guessing (and second guessing) myself through the very end. I can't wait to read more by her! Highly recommend!
This is a hard review to write because I am feeling SO many emotions after reading this book. Kiersten Modglin has won the title of The Queen of Twists because she nails that "sucker punch" in every book, even the few that are more on the romance side.
I loved her series, The Messes, because it touched on so many obstacles people face but don't always say plus it had all the twists and turns. Missing Daughter is thought provoking and raw, just like that series, but with a little extra spice.
We meet a mother, Ginny, who is battling postpartum depression basically alone. She has no family nearby besides her husband. She is struggling and to top it all off....her child goes missing. I do not normally reach for the books where children go missing because it is my absolute worst fear as a mother but as a big fan of Kiersten Modglin....I had to read her spin on it.
Missing Daughter has a little bit of everything in it. It has the twists, it has the mouth on the floor "WHAT?!" moment, it brings awareness to emotions that parents feel and it hits you straight in the gut. I can absolutely see this as a movie because it really does hit hard. I am amazed that an author can touch on mental health, motherhood, overwhelming expectations and so much more while wrapping it all up in thriller paper with a terrifying bow.
This is hands down the longest review I have ever written but the book left me feeling a ridiculous amount of emotions and I think that was the authors plan. I am off to go replace all the locks, update my security system and install some home cameras!
5 stars! Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I’m proud to say I’ve read each and every one of Kiersten Modglins books and I’m finding they are getting better and better. I had quite a few books to read before this one but pushed this to the top of my pile!
This book was so intense and full of secrets!
I loved how this book captured my attention in the first chapter, the author went right in and she did not slow down til the last sentence. I loved the characters and really enjoyed how it was written! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you so much Bookouture for Modglin newest book!
I loved and couldn't put down
The Mother In Law And The Perfect Getaway
So this was a awesome surprise to see Missing Daughter by her!
I will read anything this author writes.
She is just that good.
Modglin does it again. A fast-paced thriller, original and interesting story!
I don't think I've ever swiped pages so quickly before on one of Kiersten's books!
This one was high stakes, hugely plot driven, and with such a tense atmosphere,
This is an intense ride from start to finish.
There are so many intricate twists and turns; it is practically impossible to decipher which way is up
The characters are so beautifully written and incredibly developed.
I was compelled to read until I got to the truth at the end.
Ginny and Cameron are the parents to Skylar who goes missing one day after her birthday party.
Who is to be trusted here? You have to read this domestic thriller to find out!
Thank you again Bookouture, NetGalley and this amazing author for this eARC!
I will post to my platforms closer to pub date!
I really enjoyed this book. It was similar in style and tone to Liane Moriarty or Gillian Flynn, where it kind of starts off with a dramatic event, then goes back in time to recount the events leading up to it. Sometimes that sort of ordering annoys me, but I think this book did a really nice job revealing new information consistently without making it feel like they were "avoiding" the issue at hand. I was interested in all parts of the story for this couple.
The ending was definitely interesting. I thought I knew what was happening but then it went to a different place. I was a little disappointed that the epilogue was undone by the last two sentences, though I understand it's likely to set up a sequel of sorts. If no sequel comes then the ending is pretty frustrating, tbh. However, I appreciated that there were shades of gray in essentially every character in this and how that impacted the story. Overall highly recommend this story and this author.
