Very enjoyable read! Avery is an antiques appraiser who is called to appraise a large manor house on the Hudson. river. There are people living in the house, and things start disappearing, and some fine art paintings might not be what they appear to be. Some people come to a bad end, and the house is an enigma, with hidden walls, staircases, and it’s all very mysterious. I read this in several sittings. I didn’t realize this was part of a series; I would like to read more about Avery and her adventures. If you like old homes, antiques, sleuthing, colorful characters and twisty mysteries, you will enjoy this book.
Thank you to Gardner, Netgalley and Crooked Lane Books for an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the second book in the series and I hadn't read the first but felt it didn't matter. In fact if you'd read the one before you might be eye rolling at the amount of explanation the author does about the previous story and characters if you read them straight after each other but for me it was helpful!
Overall a cosy, if predictable murder mystery. I liked the main characters and will be looking out for further books in the series.
Thank you for the arc.
Avery Dons The Sleuthing Hat….
The second in the Avery Ayers Antique Mystery series finds Avery and associates heading to what is, potentially, their most exciting and glamorous appraisal destination to date. A grand Manor House sitting on the banks of the Hudson River. Needless to say, things do not proceed to plan and it’s not long before a death occurs, mayhem begins and Avery is donning her sleuthing hat once again. Enjoyable mystery with a likeable protagonist, a colourful supporting cast and a fun storyline.
Murder, antiques and family all in this fun cozy. Peril at Pennington Manor is the second in the Avery Ayers Antique Mystery. It doesn’t disappoint. Lots of twist and turns leaving you wanted more.

In a modern day castle setting, Author Gardner pens another stunning cozy mystery showcasing the thefts of valuable antiques. Avery Ayers of Ayers Antiques and Artifacts Appraisals heads the team to appraise a treasure trove inside a three-story castle. The owner, Duke Nicholas Pennington, is a friend of Aunt Midge’s from London. He and his dysfunctional family are currently in residence at the castle. Minutes after the Duke starts showing Avery around, a valuable gold pocket watch in a locked glass case is discovered missing. The Ayers team begins the job only to be sidelined when a horrifying, fatal accident takes place. The question is…was it an accident, or murder?
The story is exciting and full of plot twists. Hidden staircases are located, and several more stolen antiques are noted that have been taken right out from under the owner’s nose. I thought the identity of the thief and killer was well-hidden in the twisty plot. Detective Art Smith, Avery’s Beau, is on-site, working undercover to provide protection for the Ayers employees. Cute pets make for several ‘awww’ moments. Light humor eases some of the tense moments. This is an entertaining series and readers will enjoy!
I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books. All opinions are my own. Thank you.
Lots of suspects keep you guessing on this quick fun filled cozy. Love the antiques. Character development is good. Looking forward to the next in the series. Thanks #netgalley and #Crookedlanebooks for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
I loved this sequel. I enjoyed better than the 1st book actually.
Avery’s relationships with her father and sister develop and it is really sweet how her relationship grows with Art.
The mystery is very intriguing and kept me guessing.
I am expecting a third book and curious what shenanigans Avery and Art will get into next.
Thanks NetGalley for this ARC.
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
This cuz they definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more. I definitely didn't know until the very end what was going on.
Avery Ayers and her coworkers Micah Abbott and Robert Lane are hired by a friend of her aunts to do an appraisal at a manor in New York. Nicholas Pennington IV, the Duke of Valle Charme, an island kingdom off the coast of France, has decided to sell the family vacation house in the Hudson Valley which resembles a castle. Avery and Micah are amazed at the antiques in the house but quickly discover a family heirloom has been stolen and a few others are have been replaced with fakes.. There are many family members and several staff members who could be responsible. Then the danger increases and Avery's sometime date Art gets permission to work with the investigating officer. In this second book readers get to know more about the characters and I look forward to the next book. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Really needed the respite of family and romantic entanglements to act as a breather between the investigation and danger! Come for the mystery (which is really well done!) but stay for the education into high end antiques appraisals and lessons in gemology and more (like polo). The due diligence is not only about solving the murder with the many suspects, but also about the theft of very valuable antiques with solid provenances that were illegally sold to esteemed museums across the US. The publisher's blurb is a good start, but most of the things that might put a reader off really are explained in this story. It really can stand alone. I loved it!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Crooked Lane Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
I enjoyed this book. I liked the main characters. I found it to be a fast read. The killer was a surprise. #PerilatPenningtonManor #NetGalley
I believe I am in the minority with this review, thus far. This book just didn’t keep my interest. I found myself not even trying to figure out who the “bad guys” were! The characters, in my opinion, were lackluster and humdrum. Some of the ancillary personalities, throughout the read, added nothing to the story line. A few just disappeared. At times, I also found the dialogue to be stilted. I do not want to create any spoilers, so I will not elaborate. Thank you NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this opportunity to read and review this ARC.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Crooked Lane Books and #NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Peril at Pennington Manor is the second in the Avery Ayers Antique Mystery cozy mystery series. It’s an excellent series with a delightful lead character. I highly recommend this one and the other in the series.
I appreciate the publisher allowing me to read this book. This was a good mystery that kept me glued until the end.
This is an exciting cozy mystery that kept me guessing until the reveal.
I'm a big fan of cozies that involve antiques, so this book appealed to me right away.
When it's discovered that precious valuable antiques have been stolen and replaced with fakes, it up to Avery to help sort through the clues and figure out whodunit.
I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.
Peril at Pennington Manor by Tracy Gardner is a wonderful cozy mystery that is the second book in the excellent series: An Avery Ayers Antique Mystery. I just love this series!
I just love Avery. She is such a great character to lead this book. I also really enjoy the murder/mystery concept with the antique appraisal and historical aspects of the novel. I got to learn a bit more about antiques, the business of appraisals, and the artifacts that surround it. The author does a great job in balancing the two, keeping the narrative swiftly moving, all the while keeping me interested and engaged.
Plenty of twists, turns, and a few surprises also kept me coming back for more.
I am really looking forward to what is in store for us in the future books of this series. I highly recommend.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Crooked Lane Books for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.

Avery and the partners are appraising a whole manor full of antiques. Before they even get started the Duke discovers that an item is missing. The appraisers also discover several other items that seem to have been swapped out with replicas. Even more concerning is death of the housekeeper, who falls from the parapet…and is proven to be murder.
With a house that holds a murderer and a job that needs to be completed, Art joins Avery and the case undercover to not only find the culprit, but protect Avery from a murderer. Will Avery finally have stuck her nose in one too many times or will they catch the killer before they strike again?
The second entry in this series and it’s great! Lots of red herrings and twist and turns to keep you guessing right up until the end.
Thank you #Netgalley for the advance reader copy of Peril at Pennington Manor by Tracy Gardner in exchange for an honest review. Avery Ayers moved home to take care of her parents antique business after an accident. Avery and her father meet with a Duke to look at Pennington Manor to appraise the antiques. Then the housekeeper, Suzanne, falls from the roof of the manor. It might be murder.
Tracy Gardner holds the reader's interest as one crisis after another occurs. I can't wait for the next Avery Ayers story.
This book was sent to me on Kindle by Netgalley for review…it is a quick read with entertaining characters…fun…mystery…intrigue…
