Curl up under a warm, colorful afghan...enjoy a cup of steaming tea...add a buttered scone...read this cozy book...it is charming...the characters are likable and change throughout the story...I liked this book. I enjoyed this book. Such a change from murder and mayhem...from language that is often off putting...I can't wait to read more books from this author. Don't miss this one...a long lost father...a love that was NOT NICE...a new love...good friends...a toy store...a little girl...tea parties...the ocean...what more could one want for an enjoyable afternoon. Don't get me wrong...this is not fluff...there are underlying themes of discovery and trust...this book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review. I liked this book. I say it again...
THE VIEW FROM CORAL COVE by AMY CLIPSTON is a happy romance novel with some undercurrents of heartache, indecision and fear of being hurt.
Maya Reynolds comes to Coral Cove, a place which is rich with her childhood memories, to take up the inheritance her aunt CeCe left her - a valuable property which includes a toy shop. A runaway kitten leads to her meeting Brody Tanner and eight year old Ashlyn, and the scene is set, but there are stumbling blocks in the form of ex’s, an excessive feeling of respnsibility towards Ashlyn on Brody’s behaf, and Maya’s determination to be married wth a family before she is much older. In amongst all this is Maya’s mother’s secret regardng Maya’s father which finally comes to ight.
It is an enjyable read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
When I have to mull over what I want to say in a review, it's because I am having a hard time finding the right words to express my opinions. I've been stewing over this one for three days, and I'm still having a hard time with it.
Amy Clipston is best known for her Amish fiction, which she writes quite well. This is not Amish fiction and the story itself is not really in Amy's wheelhouse.
Maya has inherited a toy shop from her Aunt CeCe in Coral Cove, North Carolina. She is moving on the heels of a bad break-up with her fiance, Kyle. Among the first people she meets in Coral Cove are Brody and his rather precocious daughter, Ashlyn. An instant rapport with Ashlyn captures Maya, and to a degree, initiates a friendship with Brody.
What I wish had happened in this book:
Maya created a princess room for tea parties for little girls' birthdays. What about the boys in Coral Cove? Could she not have also made a room for boys' parties? She was needing to create more income for the store and she missed half of the children who would have helped her with her income woes.
Maya's and Brody's relationship seemed to grow organically except that Maya still seemed stuck on Kyle. Brody seems to be a rebound relationship and when Kyle shows up, Maya's feelings flip flop so much as to give the reader whiplash trying to keep up. I wish Maya's feelings for Kyle had been fully resolved.
The story is a typical formulaic romance, with fun parts to keep the reader engaged. The sad thing is that this is not Amy's best offering. Three stars.
Thomas Nelson and NetGalley.com provided the copy I read for this review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a romantic tale. There are the usual breakups, dumping, and making up.
There are a couple of different aspects in the storyline which make for a more intriguing read. A single uncle who has adopted his niece and the main character searching for, and discovering who her birth father is.
The characters are well developed and emotions run high, but are accurately exhibited and described.
This is an enjoyable read.
Romance author Maya Reynolds is getting over a failed romance and broken engagement. Her great aunt dies leaving Maya a toy store with an apartment above the toy store. Maya who is suffering with writer’s block moves to the seaside town of Coral Cove and takes over running the toy store.
A romance story about friendships, family, identity and secrets.
Coral Cove is the ideal place to begin anew with a quaint town, a beautiful ocean coastline, and amazing townsfolks. This is exactly what romantic author, Maya Reynolds, needs after her broken engagement and loss of her dear great-aunt. Suffering from writer’s block and lacking inspiration, I was happy to see that Ashlyn decided to keep the town’s toy store going. That seems like it would be so much fun!
The story was made complete and heartwarming with the sweet, adorable, Ashlyn and her amazing dad, local veterinarian, Brody Tanner. Both Maya and Brody are afraid of taking a chance and getting hurt, but taking small steps and trusting one another has a way of breaking down walls. I enjoyed reading their story because they deserved happiness.
I recommend reading this book if you like Christian romance stories. It in encouraging and uplifting. I was given an advanced electronic copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review; all opinions are my own.
I really enjoy reading anything by this author whether it be contemporary fiction or Amish fiction.
This story takes us to the town of Coral Cove where Maya goes to take over running her great aunt Cece's toy store. The fun begins when a little kitten comes in to the store followed by little Ashlyn and her father, Brody, the local vet. This was such a fun story for me that I finished the book within 24 hours! There was one part in the story where Maya was given something and the tears just flowed for me, which doesn't happen often from a book!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a great book. The two main characters are Maya and Brody. Maya is an author and toy store owner and Brody is a veterinarian and father to a girl. They meet when a kitten runs into her store and Brody’s daughter runs after the kitten. They start seeing each other all over town. The have lots of issues from two ex-finances, a long lost father, recent death of her great aunt, and trust issues, but they work them out and fall in love.
Amy Clipston ranks up towards the tip top of my favorite authors list! I love all of her Amish reads and her contemporary romance books are incredible! This one is SO sweet! I love the characters and the sweet, clean way she writes and develops them. I also foresee a potential book #2 with a certain “Gayle” and a father…but alas, no spoilers! Grab a copy of this one - it is excellent and will keep you guessing!
So so good! I couldn't put it down! The author is good at telling a story whether it is Amish or contemporary fiction. Coral Cove sounds like wonderful place to live. I really hope I get to visit it again. I hope there will be more from Coral Cove.
I highly recommend
A well written and really sweet romance and family drama which reminds me somewhat of a hallmark movie. Not a bad thing. I would enjoy the movie. I gave it four stars because the dialogue sounds good to my reading ears and nothing happened that yanked me out of the story. Really good likable main characters too.

This was an endearing story full of loss, love, charm and rebuilding. I loved the storyline and the growth that characters went through to reach their happy ending. I was hooked from the first page.
I always enjoy Ms Clipston’s books about the Amish so I was hoping to like this one with no Amish references. And I did. I loved the relationship between Maya and Ashlyn . It was a very special part of the story. Also the friendship with Brody. I really liked his character.
I will recommend this to the patrons at our library.
This is a lovely romance based in a small beach community in NC.. Maya Reynolds comes to run the Toy Shop she inherited from her recently deceased Great-Aunt CeCee. Maya is an author who writes romance novels but she has reached a block since her own relationship ended abruptly when her fiance broke up with her.. She meets a local Vet, Brody Tanner and a friendship develops. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story but it is just a sweet tale throughout. Amy Clipston is one of my favorite authors and she has not disappointed this time.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
Fantastic story, I rushed through the whole book in one day!
Her characters are fully fleshed out, real humans with flaws who have to overcome real challenges.
Amy Clipston and her writing and I just am so glad I got to read this and cannot wait to read more of her work.
The entire concept pulled me in and kept glued the entire time.
It combines everything I love about adult contemporary romances.
I enjoyed the premise and love every aspect of the characters.
I can totally relate to how they feel.
It was a sweet and quick read with such a great story
This book did not disappoint.
