Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs wasn't my favourite book in the series so far, mainly because again; it felt like there was too much focus in American people. There needs to be an increase in the amount of people from the other countries in the world. Maybe go for someone who comes from a country who isn't that well known out of their country more often?
I will say however, I was utterly fascinated by the Inuit throat dancers, mother and daughter, Kayuula and Shina Novalinga. I knew of them through seeing the occasional video on social media but that was it. They're incredible and their throat singing was something to behold after searching for a video.
This is what I love about this series and why I believe them to be a valid educational tool as well as enjoyable read. They're designed for children (specifically girls obviously) but anyone who picks them up can and will learn something. They're concise in their storytelling manner of telling you about someone's life which is great as an introduction to a specific topic or person. I'd highly recommend these to be in school libraries or on a child's bookshelf at home.
The Rebel Girls books are quick, interesting reads with one-page bios coupled with portraits of each woman (in this case, each mother-daughter pair). I loved the diversity of each pair and their profession. There were well-known celebrities as well as lesser known women. The book covered women of many different age ranges, ethnicities, and interests. The bios are also written in a very interesting and captivating style. All in all, I definitely recommend this book!
This was my second Rebel Girls book, and I loved it as much as, if not more than, the first!
All of the Rebel Girls books I've read so far have been well-written, informative, and beautifully designed, and this was no exception. I especially appreciated that so many of the girls and women are still active today and that they do such a wide range of activities from barrel racing to science to fashion.
I'm such a big fan of Rebel Girls! These books are so inspirational. I wish they had been around when I was younger, but I love buying the books to the young girls in my life. Powerful Pairs presents the stories of mothers and the daughters who have achieved remarkable accomplishments. From familiar names like Beyonce and Blue Ivy Carter to women who may be lesser known but not any less inspiring, such as Lauri and Arianna Strand or Leena and Bhakti Sharma, these stories are short, easy reads sure to influence and motivate girls. I love the addition of the activities at the end of the book, as well.
I am so grateful to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Rebel Girls: Powerful Pairs.
I loved this so much! Such a nice change to some of the others that just focus on one person. I loved seeing the powerful duos and I can just imagine mothers and daughters sitting down to read this together and feeling a lot of empowerment from it
Needless to say that I love the Rebel Girls series! I have featured and talked about so many of these books and I know I will continue to talk about them.
This particular one is now definitely one of my favorites with its inspiring and heartwarming portrayal of mother-daughter rebel girls! As always, I knew about some of them, but again, as always, I did not know too many of them and I am so very grateful for the chance to learn about them through this book.
Like with other books in the series, the mini-biographies are perfect, both in terms of the amount of information (that informs and inspires readers to learn more) and audience-appropriateness; the illustrations are vibrant and full of those quirky details that appeal to everyone!
Whether or not you have read (or love) the Rebel Girls series, if you have not checked out this title yet, do so now!
Disclaimer: Thanks to Netgalley for the digital review copy of the book. These are my honest opinions of the book.
a great addition to the rebel girls series and a lovely read to bond with family members. I particularly liked this one as the partnerships and relationships added to the storytelling
Thank you so much Netgalley and Rebel Girls for this amazing title in exchange of honest opinion.
I always pick up books of this series with high expectations and so far, they've never disappointed me! If I have to choose some of my most favorite series ever, Rebel Girls series will certainly make it to top 10. I love getting to know people intimately, to read about their passions, struggles and what inspired them in the first place. But due to short concentration span, I can't read nonfiction books. Rebel Girls has solved this problem for me! As there's only two pages dedicated to each person: one with highlighted parts of their lives and the other with their stunningly illustrated portraits, I can easily read them. I get to know about so many motivating figures without having to force myself to read boring books. It's really amazing. I especially love this one because mothers and daughters share a beautiful friendship, one that has the power to withstand even the worst kind of pressures. To see mothers and daughters from all of the world team up and work towards their dreams have been a great journey. Lovely Lovely book. Highly recommended!
I liked this one because it showcased mother and daughter pairings. You had pairings of individuals that readers would recognize from social media/the news and then you had pairings of people not as familiar. This would be a sweet read for mothers and daughters (or equivalent relationships) to read before bedtime. I gave this collection 4 stars because I really liked it, but the sports collection is the absolute best collection I have read so far.
This was a great addition to the rebel girls collection. Powerful pairs of strong women who have helped shape the world. I love these books and sharing them with my kids.
Rebel Girls has made a name for itself by creating bright, colourful books which highlight the accomplishments or marginalized individuals who have made an impact on our world. While the stories of these amazing people don’t go into a lot of detail, they are a great way to introduce children to an array of greatness. One of the newest books, Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs, focuses on dynamic mother-daughter pairs. This is a great addition to a Rebel Girls collection, adding in names and faces which will be new to many readers and emphasizing intergenerational greatness.

I love the Rebel Girls series and I am going to hide it.
This one was kinda different cause it was not only about a great girls but also about a strong bond between mother and daughter.
It was so inspiring especially that I have a daugter on my own. I know how important it is to find something in common, to show the world to her and give an example to follow.
This book is not only a great women who achieve a huge successes but also a mothers who supports her daughters, to be there to motivate them, be for them if needed. I think it is also a great advanatage to have such persons in the life.
Many pairs were unknown so we have a chance to get to know some more facts, figures, and feel inspired to do more, to find more joy and hobbies to fullfil our days
Thanks to NetGalley

2.5
Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs features 25 stories of powerful mother/daughter teams in the world.
Each story of each pair is accompanied by an illustration of them, which is bright, powerful and very much so beautiful.
This would be a great gift for any middle schooler and for all the moms with little girls. Perfect for children and for adults, I absolutely loved this this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Rebel Girls for providing me with an ARC of Rebel Girls: Powerful Pairs
I enjoy the Rebel Girls stories. Powerful Pairs felt fitting to read with Mother's Day coming up this Sunday. I enjoyed the artwork and learning about these mothers and daughters.
This is an interesting compilation of creative nonfiction showcasing mother and daughter pairs, with illustrations by different artists. There are some really interesting stories here, and some have codes embedded to learn more in a Rebel Girls app. I would have liked to see some of the celebrity pairs replaced by other women, as I found more inspiration from the non-celebrities (with the exception of a celebrity author.) As with other Rebel Girls books, there are some creative activities at the end.
'Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs' introduces us to twenty-five powerful mother-daughter duos who has changed the world for the better in one way or the other. With it's perfect and beautiful illustrations, to the well-crafted pieces; this rebel girl book is another gem in the rebel girls series.
This rebel girl book features a diverse list of mother-daughter pairs, from all over the world- scientists, entertainers, swimmers, dancers, singers, actors, producers, authors, advocates, humanitarians, etc., every story is special. From Beyoncé and Blue ivy, Prue Leith and Li-Da Kruger, Niveditha Hegde and Ishanvi Hegde, Marie Curie and Irene Joliot-Curie, we see some widely-known mom-daughter stories and also stories that aren't. And that's the most unique thing about this book.
Perfect for children and for adults, I absolutely loved this this book. Thanks to NetGalley and the Rebel Girls Team for this wonderful read.
Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs features 25 stories of powerful mother/daughter teams in the world. Each biography of each pair is accompanied by an illustration of them, which is bright and powerful. This would be a great gift for any middle schooler!
This is a collection of one-page biographies of famous mother-daughter pairs around the world from all walks of life: science, business, sports, activism, etc. Some are well-known "classic" names, such as Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters (suffragettes) and Marie and Irene Curie (scientists), but most are lesser-known women like Leena and Bhakti Sharma (swimmers) and Karen and Mina Hawk (home re-habbers). This is a good reference as a starting point to look up information on modern famous mother-daughter teams including pop culture icons, but not so much for historical women. I was very surprised that this book did not include historical pairs like Mary Wollstonecraft and Mary Shelley (authors). The illustrations are good representations of their real-life subjects, and enrich the value of this book.
Again this book by Rebel Girls is very inspirational, I find myself wondering whether me and my daughters will be similar to the pairs of mother and daughter in this book. I like that it is colourful, and the illustrations added another layer to the stories, it also have audio story linked to certain pages by app (I haven’t tested that feature yet). There are activities suggestions (seems suitable for all ages) at the end of the book as well which enhance the bonding experiences between a parent and child.
Many thanks Rebel Girls for this digital review copy via NetGalley.
