Dallas has been rescued but he can't stand being around people and he certainly can't stand touch. That is until a wildcat, Rachel, tries to take his head off with a tree branch. Surely this stranger doesn't belong here.
While he tries to figure this out he also has made several new discoveries. Read to see what happens when Rachel and Dallas try to navigate around each other. Rachel has a killer after her, can she keep the people she cares about most safe?
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I couldn't bring myself to finish this book, so I don't have much to say about the storyline itself. The writing (especially of the hero) is so misogynistic and sexist that I only made it about two chapter. The heroine seems to have absolutely no skills or strengths and is more or less helpless, even though she is a professional stunt double. Overall I'm just confused why a woman would fantasize about such a clearly sexist hero (maybe he does actually come to like the heroines personality as well but mostly he just likes her because she's a damsel in distress and states at her tits and ass because "he's a man"). I am really disappointed because the blurb was very intriguing and I heard good things about this author. I'm still giving two stars because someone might be into the book or storyline. It just really wasn't for me and I found it problematic.

A story about a navy seal recovering from ptsd and a woman on the run from a murder. They meet unexpectedly and slowly develop a friendship while trying to figure out how to keep her safe.
Once again this talented author delivers a story that not only grabs your attention from the first page to the last, but also is filled with heart.
We are back in Asheville, North Carolina with the former SEALs that are creating a safe haven for those veterans that return needing a place to recover while also getting a service dog that could change their lives.
Dallas Manning, a friend and teammate of the founders Jack and Noah, has gone to hell and back after not only being capture for two weeks, but also torture and scarred to almost death. He needs a place away from the family and the Montana ranch he called home. Being touch after his torture is another type of torture, and he just wants to be left alone.
What he never expected when he goes to the isolated cabin for his R & R , is stuntwoman Rachel Denning. Rachel is hiding from a murder and thought the cabin would be the perfect place. From the moment Dallas meets “the wildcat”, something inside of him changes as well.
As the danger increases , so do feelings. But both are afraid to express those feelings. Besides, their lives are in different parts of the country and truly, Dallas still thinks of himself as a broken man.
Will they survive the danger? Will they get a chance of finding their HEA or will each go their separate ways?
It was bittersweet to see this series come to an end, but it was also heartwarming to see how these brave men found happiness with their soulmates.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley an Carina Press. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
“Mountain Rescue”, by Sandra Owens (HARLEQUIN – Carina Press), is a very enjoyable read, with a cast of characters you grow fond of and who share affection and love copiously.
Dallas and Rachel relationship begins in an unusual, slightly dangerous yet fun way and its development continues to exhibit those initial features of mutual amusement, surprise, and also a growing fondness.
The interaction between them is a joy to follow, with all that banter and provocation, but also tenderness and real caring.
I loved that Rachel and Dallas talk, communicate, and that there’s no unnecessary drama, besides the obstacles caused by each of their circumstances.
As in the previous stories in the “Operation K-9 Brothers” series, Dallas and Rachel are lovable, relatable characters, people you feel you would like to know or be friends with in real life. Owens writes about the heroine’s joy of life, how “she was at heart a happy person” and often shows Dallas’ sense of humor and I find myself again enjoying so much this author’s fictional universe and how her stories and characters have an undercurrent of good vibrations and optimism.
I liked that the attraction and chemistry are instantaneous but they take their sweet time until sex. Readers watch the growing affection slowly build along with the gradual physical closeness, the kissing and all that playfulness. There’s an underlying sensuality and eroticism in this gradual process that are very compelling.
Dallas has gone through a gruesome ordeal and is suffering from lingering mental effects besides the physical ones. There’s an interesting twist in the psychological scars that I really liked.
The scenes with the animals were heartwarming and touching; having a tough SEAL blurting out something very personal to a frightened, abused dog, trying to make her trust him, leaves a smile on your face.
I’m not sure whether some things happening in the suspense plotline would be plausible with former SEALS or military personnel involved.
Mountain Rescue is a fabulous read it's fast paced and with delightful surprises. I devoured every word and Judy could not stop reading. Loveable characters, and great HEA.
Must read.
I would now like to move to Asheville, North Carolina and volunteer at Jack's organization thank you very much.
Dallas is a Navy Seal on leave recovering from the brutal torture and kidnapping by the Taliban. He can barely stand to be touched and suffers from very bad nightmares. He's in Asheville to see the Operation Warriors Center his friends Jack and Noah are working on. Jack, of course, has the perfect dog for Dallas to help him recover. He also gives him a place to stay - not knowing that Jack's wife Nichole's best friend has been hiding out there after witnessing her friend's murder. Rachael is a stunt-woman and has empathic abilities. She is smart and tough. She's hiding from her her friend's killer and doesn't want to draw in the others - but Dallas won't let her hide. She and Dallas are great together - and really are very complementary personality wise -and clearly love a lot of the same things.
That being said, I didn't' love this one quite as much as the others - and I think it primarily lost a star for me at the end when Dallas and Rachel have their own drama (after the external stuff ends). <spoiler> Rachel overhears Dallas saying he wasn't sure about things - and needed some time to think. So Rachel pretty much freaks out and tells Dallas she's not going to wait around while he figures it out. Not unreasonable right? Except - dude they've known each other for like a week. A very intense week - but in any normal relationship you would take time to work through things together. She basically runs away and then they don't talk for awhile. Dallas lets this happen - which is really following Rachel's request. But Rachel gets upset during their break because he didn't contact her. Well, um, you kind of told him not to. Anyway - I know that we have to have some tension between the characters to resolve - but this was just...Dumb. And they never really discuss it (on page at least) other than Dallas coming for Rachel and telling her he loves her and wants to be with her. I felt let down by the conflict and the resolution. </spoiler>
Overall though, I recommend the series and this book as a great romantic suspense featuring damaged heroes and strong women.
I received the book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
Loved this book! The characters were engaging and quickly drew me into their world. I especially loved Dallas's character - he's the perfect damaged hero who struggles to make sense of his new life.
This is a fast paced story that quickly drew me in and kept me hooked until the very last page. I even fell in love with the animals in the story.
If you enjoy the genre, you will love this book. While part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, its so good that you really owe to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors' list.
Five stars + for this exciting and intriguing book by Sandra Owens. You'll have a hard time putting it down.
Mountain Rescue tells the riveting story of Dallas, a NAVY seal whose scars run deep. Dallas is staying in a remote cabin, owned by his friend Jack, while recuperating from the brutal torture from the Taliban. The problem: Rachel, a friend of Jack's wife, decides to hide out in that same cabin while running from a man who wants to kill her. You can imagine what happens when their personalities clash.
This thrilling book has everything, including an adorable dog, Bella, and her "kitten", Blue. Plus, unforgettable characters from other books in this series make an appearance, including Dirty Mary and her special brand of naughty humor. And, of course, a romance or two.
Read this book. You won't be sorry.
Dallas comes to the cabin near Asheville wanting to get away. He’s a Navy SEAL who was held hostage by the Taliban and he is scarred by the experience. He comes to the cabin wanting to get away from people and their pity for a while. Rachel comes to the cabin trying to outrun the person trying to kill her. They both think the cabin will be empty and are unpleasantly surprised to meet each other there. But things heat up between them quickly. She’s on the run and he is going to protect her.
This is an engaging and charming tale. It is fun to return to the Operation K-9 Brothers world of the author. Rachel and Dallas are delightful. Although the consummation of their attraction happens quickly it is still well written and believable. You’ll be introduced to a wonderful quirky dog and it’s kitten. They are an adorable addition. I would recommend this book to my patrons.
