Our Little Secret? Perfect title for this book! SECRET galore! Not one character in this book is without a secret.
The twists just kept coming and coming! I was getting whiplash from this Audiobook! All of the characters were also horrible in one way or another. I didn’t like a single one! But it worked for the plot.
If you’re looking for a short, suspenseful, twist story, this is it! Look no further.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.
Our Little Secret by Kiersten Modglin is a psychological thriller that revolves around six friends who live in a gated community called Cason Glen, where nothing bad ever happens. Or so they think. When one of them goes missing and another one is found dead, their perfect lives start to unravel and their dark secrets come to light. Who can they trust? Who is lying? And who is the next to disappear?
Modglin delivers a fast-paced and twisty plot that will make you question everything you read. The characters are well-developed and complex, each with their own motives and secrets. The narration alternates between the six friends, giving you different perspectives and clues along the way. The writing is engaging and suspenseful, with a touch of humor and sarcasm. The ending is shocking and satisfying, with a final twist that you won't see coming.
Our Little Secret is a gripping and addictive read that will keep you guessing until the last page. If you enjoy psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators, hidden agendas, and surprising revelations, you will love this book. I highly recommend it to fans of Liane Moriarty, Shari Lapena, and Ruth Ware.
A twisty thriller that is a quick read. Couldn’t put down. Lots of unreliable characters. Small town everyone thinks they know everyone. Thanks NetGalley for the audio eArc
Oh my!!! This book had many twists and turns and just when you think you have it figured out, BAM you don’t. Was a quick read wanting to know more.
Once upon a time, I requested OUR LITTLE SECRET by Kiersten Modglin from @netgalley when I was just getting a feel for the platform. The next day (or so I will attest) the title was archived and I felt sad and like a failure. Then recently, I saw this come up on @chirpbooks and for a fantastic price, so I grabbed it up and had a great time listening to this twisty suspense with the stormy skies overhead!
We find out that Stephanie is struggling raising her older teen boys, especially with the disappearance of their dad, the beloved history teacher, Ted. Michelle is the neighborhood gossip, and with her Sheriff husband, she is privy to a fair share of information. Enzo is the Mayor who lost his wife in a recent tragedy.
And they all have secrets.
I enjoyed the multiple POV's voiced by Mandy Kaplan and Wyatt Baker. The women had enough differences that I was able to tell them apart even without the chapter titles stating the name, though I think that is always helpful.
This was a fast-paced story that quickly reveals that there are things that everyone is hiding. I was in the mood for a quick, entertaining story and this delivered. It was clear no one in this tale deserved to be believed and the secrets kept getting deeper. All the way to end.
Thank you NetGalley for trying to share this with me! I have learned my lesson and download immediately now! Thank you to Chirp for offering this @orangeskyaudio title for a great price! I am glad I got to listen to it!
After keeping this audiobook on my NetGalley shelf for way too long, I finally had the opportunity to listen to it recently.
Told from a few different points of view, Our Little Secret is about a small town where EVERYONE has secrets. Even the people you think are telling the truth are hiding things. It makes you think about what you’d do to protect the people you care about.
I think this is the second book by Kierstin Modglin that I’ve read, and I have enjoyed both. I like when an author can quickly introduce a compelling plot and equally quickly wrap it up. Sometimes I wonder if authors feel like they need to make their books 350+ pages. This book is short (under 6 hours via audio) but it is still packed full of twists. I hated all of the characters but had to keep going because I couldn’t figure the plot out. Thanks to OrangeSky Audio for the ALC via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Cason Glen is a small town where most who live there grew up there as well. They went to school together, played sports together, partied together and eventually, married each other and had children. Everyone knows everyone and pretty much everyone's business. But there are secrets hiding under the surface.
Jude is the town sheriff. He is married to Michelle and they have one daughter Caroline. Stephanie is married to Ted and they have twin sons. But Ted went missing a couple of months ago and Stephanie and the town don't know if he ran off with another woman or if something else happened to him. Enzo is the town mayor. His wife was killed a few years back when she interrupted a burglar or at least that's what the police decided.
Jude gets a late night call that takes him to the lake. Stephanie reported that coming home from work she saw a car driving into the lake. That wasn't true but what is true is that the lake holds secrets. Secrets like a gun used to kill Enzo's wife. Secrets like bodies that have remained hidden but are about to be revealed.
This is my first read by this author. There are lots of twists and turns. I grew up in a small town like this one where everyone knew everyone else and what they were doing so I could relate to the claustrophobic feeling of a small town. There are lots of twists and turns, some the reader can predict and others they can't. This book is recommended for mystery readers.
Someone’s missing. Someone’s dead. Everyone’s lying. In a town full of masterfully woven webs, six friends are about to watch their world unravel. And, if they’re not careful, one of them might be the next to disappear…When everyone you know is a liar, how do you decide whom to trust?
This is only the second book I've read of this author (although I pretty much have them all on my tbr list!) Her books are renowned for being short, sharp, punchy and full of twists and this certainly delivered. I read it in one three hour sitting (when my toddler was in bed) because I couldn't put it down. Almost every chapter leaves you in suspense and I just didn't have the will power to stop reading.
The twists, the shocks and secrets in this book were brilliant. Every chapter spoon fed you piece by piece with an extra part of the puzzle, but then just when you think you have things sussed ... BAM! The ending basically knocks you back down to earth and I was left thinking...what the f**k just happened. Amazing!
I know I gave this book 4 stars so that means there was something that didn't make it perfect. That, for me, is the fact that I feel like some of the characters could have been developed more and and yes, there were a lot of shocking twists, but at times I felt these could have been described better, but other than that I thought it was brilliant. On to the next book!
Quick and easy to read but unlike The Arrangement which I think is her best yet, this is not my favorite but if you are looking for a thriller and page-turner read, you can never go wrong with Kiersten Modglin.
I’ve read some of Kiersten Modglin in the past and I had Our Little Secret on my @netgalley list since last year. 🫣 The audio archived before I could listen, so I finally checked it out from the library and listened the past day. This is definitely a typical psychological twisty thriller you’d expect from Modglin and I really enjoyed it! I really liked the different narrators. I never can guess all the twists she comes up with and enjoy her quick reads!
I may be in the minority, but I like books where all the characters are unlikeable for some reason or another. With everyone in the town holding onto a secret that could destroy everything, they will go to any lengths to protect what is theirs. With multiple secrets, a missing person, and a woman dead, there are plenty of twists for anyone who enjoys thrillers.
This author never disappoints! Every time I thought I had this story figured out, things took a turn!
I listened to this on audio books and the narrator had a southern accent that was easy to understand and kept me interested. I felt this was also the perfect length for an audio book!
Our Little Secret is probably one of my favorite thrillers so far this year. I love books that revolve around small towns. I think that's partly because I have lived in a small town so I enjoy reading about them. Granted our small town wasn't as crazy as this place but I get how it could be. And I get how outsiders can see it that way.
There are so many twists and turns in Our Little Secret and I loved it! The character was well done and the story was pretty fast-paced. I can't wait to read more by Kiersten!
As always, this author’s books are quick, engaging, tense and entertaining. I seem to especially like them on audio and this was no exception.
It’s about a small town, full of secrets. But, when one of their residents goes missing, the lies start slowly surfacing….. 👀
This one is out now and definitely recommend!
Thank you @netgalley for my ALC
The narrators are fanatastic
I really enjoyed this one on audio. I binged it in one day. I could not stop listening and needed to know what was going to happen next. I always appreciate that about this author. Quick bingeable twisty little thrillers. I would recommend to a friend easily. Thanks for the copy. Sorry it took me so long to upload a review. I think it got archived and i wasn’t able to find it.
I really loved this murder mystery, which is set in a small town called Cason Glen. A man goes missing, but where could he have just disappeared to? There are so many secrets, twists and turns in this book, and it is just really amazing. The audiobook is fantastic, and I really enjoyed listening to it. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and kept me engrossed, waiting to find out what happened next. Great read, and highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley, for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher/author for providing me with an ALC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was exactly what I wanted it to be! I loved it. I will make sure to check out other books by this author. When I requested this I was just intrigued by the concept of it and I loved how it turned out. This story had a great plot and if you have read this and enjoyed it, This was so much. It was such a great story. I would say give this one a try. I will continue to follow this author. Way to go to this author for not letting me down.
So this book was not my favorite..I heard so good things about this author, but this was just not for me. The story was pretty straightforward and it’s pretty evident from the title and first couple of pages that there is a “secret”.
However, the story lacked depth and instead of the story unfolding in a way to allow the reader immerse themselves in the story and learn that there is a secret between the group of neighbors, I felt like every other page where readers were listening to the thoughts of the characters they kept mentioning “a secret” and I was like..wait is this a joke. You’re just going to keep telling me there’s a secret. The plot twist was pretty predictable, now I will say there were several secrets and one of them did catch me by surprise. But quite honestly it just came out of nowhere so it’s not like it felt melded into the rest of the story it just sort of happened. Again I have heard great things about this author so I’d be interested in reading some of her other work. Thank you to NetGalley for an arc copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first book by Kiersten Modglin! The characters drove me crazy. The twists were good! I’m looking forward to reading more books by her.
I am a recent fan of Kiersten Modglin and picked up this audiobook again after reading some of her more recent work. (Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT miss The Arrangement and its sequel, the Amendment!) Here, while not as nuts and frankly batsh*t as some Modglin’s other works (note: batsh*t from me is a compliment!) , I enjoyed the juicy story, the scandalous characters, and the twists that Modglin excels at so very well. I was not a huge fan of the female audiobook narrator, which showed my progress on the book initially, but upon taking a break and revisiting I was able to put those quirks aside and fully embrace the fun.
It’s official, I will read and enjoy any book Kiersten Modglin puts out. Keep ‘em coming!
