Thank you to Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine and NetGalley for the arc of this lovely book!

This was the first Josie Silver book I have read. I hear a lot of good things about her books, but they’ve never interested me. But this one took me by surprise!

It definitely had a slow start, but I was very invested once it got going! I related to Cleo and was heartbroken for Mack.

There was insta love and a bit of enemies to lovers at the beginning, but what ended up happening was a beautiful love story with two people who supported the other.

Let me begin by saying that I've never really gotten the draw of Josie Silver's books because One Day in December bored me to tears. But I liked the premise of this one, and in the end, I'm quite glad to have given her a second chance because One Night on the Island is so, so, so much better. The chemistry between Cleo and Mack leaps off the page; the other residents of Salvation Island are quirky and kind. A true joy to read, and I read it in a matter of hours because I truly did not want to put it down!

Some small critiques: I don't love the title because it feels a little too much like the publisher is trying to harken back to the success of One Day in December...but alas, that's the nature of publishing. I would also note that the whole "self-coupling" storyline is very cringe, and not particularly current, but I did actually enjoy Cleo's "ceremony" and the emotional breakthroughs the experience allowed her to have.

4.5 stars
In short, I loved this book. It's super fast-paced, and I devoured the whole thing in two sittings. It's not your typical romance novel at all- yes, the heroine is plucky and the hero is handsome, but there's so much more going on here. I don't want to spoil too much, but I will say that the ending was not what I expected, but it fit the plot and the characters perfectly, and I was very satisfied. The message about finding your flock and not just your flamingo really resonated with me.
I loved this book and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

I loved One Day In December and The Two Lives of Lydia Bird so it is no surprise that I absolutely loved One Night on the Island. This was a highly anticipated read for me and it did not disappoint. Josie Silver has a way with words and a way of so accurately depicting and displaying emotions. Cleo Wilder, approaching her 30th birthday and a dating columnist, is sent to a remote Irish Island to take a personal leap for herself and her career. Cleo is more than surprised to learn that Mack Sullivan, who is also in desperate need of time to find himself and sort through his life, is booked to be in the same cabin at the same time. If you are a fan of the same bed trope - you will love this same cabin, same island scenario. I loved that it was a romcom and had the making of a relationship build and romance. However, what I loved more is that it explored the messy complications of life. It isn't all fairytales and my appreciation for that had me even more invested in the characters. Not to mention, the unbelievably descriptive and picturesque setting of Salvation Island.

If Emma Watson is truly to blame for Cleo’s “misfortune”, then I need to follow everything Emma does in life if it leads to an adventure like this! I loved the forced proximity of two strangers who are on a journey trying to find their way. Trying to salvage an unwanted situation and discovering that this is the exact thing they needed in their lives.

The only obstacle I had with this book was it’s slow pace at the very beginning. I craved Mack and Cleo together and when they were apart, I lost some interest. It took a bit to build up the characters and their past and I mainly wanted to focus on their present. The pace of the story did pick up, but for me it happened around 30%. Once the heart of the story unfolded, I was captivated by the beauty of the island, the quirky side characters, and the undeniable connection between Cleo and Mack. Though their story is based on a fantasy, there was a lot of reality to their story. The author thoughtfully planned this story out by making sure their actions matched the characters rather than having a dramatic, over-the-top love story.

One, this book has amazing characters that you cannot help but fall for. Two, the story was beyond charming and now I want to find my own adventure in a double book placed on a secluded island. Three, I don't regret anything about this book. Though the slow start made me skeptical at the beginning, the strong love for these characters and story outshined any bumpy beginning. 3.5 Liked this much better than the Two Lives of Lydia Byrd but One Day in December is still the standard for me. I was more interested in Cleo’s self-discovery and the island community of characters — the flock — then the romance. Would like to see the author explore more community oriented stories than just romance. Definitely potential.

This book surprised me in the best possible way. It’s not like any romantic comedy you’ve read before. For starters Cleo is fleeing her Dating Column in London to *marry herself on a remote island.* And then there’s Mack - he’s come to a tiny island to straighten out his troubled marriage and work out how to be a better father. If I fell in love with anything in this book (besides Mack, swoon) it was the island, Salvation. Josie Silver so effortlessly describes the most beautiful Irish island with lines like this, “God, the air tastes clear here. It’s like drinking diamonds.” Really enjoyed this one. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.

This is the type of book that - if it becomes a smash bestseller - could have millions of 30-year old women setting off to remote islands pretending they are out to find themselves but really hoping to find love. At first I found Cleo annoying, particularly at how she handles the mishap of two people being booked at the same cottage accidentally, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to stick through the book. Luckily, her character develops and goes from cloying to endearing and you end up rooting for her. Mack is a solid leading man, with his own set of heartaches that he's working through. The islander community provides a nice supporting cast of characters that includes a shopkeeper, a pregnant cafe waitress, the local pub owner and a knitting circle that welcomes Cleo, and the readers, into their lives. In the spirit of this book, grab yourself a coffee or glass of whiskey, wrap yourself in a cozy blanket and enjoy this book that perfect for a winter vacation read.

Josie Silver does it again. She paints such a vivid read... I mean Salvation Island sounds down right incredible. I wanted more laugh out loud moments but all in all it was just delightful!

This was an engrossing, healing sort of book. Two broken people (Cleo, a writer, and Mack, a photographer) arrive on an island in search of time alone, and, in their own separate ways, hoping the island will heal them. They get more than they bargained for on arrival--the cabin each of them expected to have all to themselves was double-booked and now there is no way off...and they have to share. So the cabin is where they both stay, neither willing to give way and both feeling justified in staying.

I found the characters to be realistic and relatable--fully human, but with aspirations and dreams and better natures too. I appreciated how the details of each of their lives unfurled naturally as the book progressed. We learn what they are going through as they interact with each other, the residents of the island, and with the island itself--and it is these interactions that open them up to living again. The island is almost a character in itself, and Silver very much sets the atmosphere—one of change, fierce and raw and untamed and extreme and beautiful. Cleo and Mack are both at a moment of transition in life: rediscovering themselves in this new phase and figuring out who they are becoming. As they develop and progress as individuals and in relation to each other I found myself almost wishing they wouldn't get together romantically because they both needed a really good friend more than anything else. Things are complicated in a real-life kind of way--not contrived or fantastic, but each of them is working through a lot of complex emotions and lifestyle choices. Life after leaving is as important as what each of them found while staying.

Head's up for open-door romance moments.

One Day in December is my absolute favorite holiday book and I had such high expectations for this one. Unfortunately it fell flat. While the latter half was definitely better, I’m disappointed.

Set on a beautiful remote island in Ireland, our story begins with Cleo and Mack. Two strangers instantly at odds turned roommates due to a mix-up. Cleo, in search of finding her flamingo (the one), is pitched an idea about self-coupling from her boss just weeks before her 30th birthday. Before she knows it, Cleo is sent to the island of Salvation to marry herself while documenting it all for the London magazine she writes for.

Mack is also heading to Salvation to rest his weary heart. His wife announced their marriage is over out of the blue. After giving his wife the space she needs the past year, he’s barely keeping it together. He’s missing his children like crazy and at odds with this new identity. He decides to finally go to the island he grew up hearing enchanted stories about from his Grandmother. The perfect place to explore his Ireland roots, get some clarity and take a break from it all.

In true Josie Silver fashion, we are sucked into a beautiful funny story about community, sisterhood, love and finding ourselves. The characters in this novel are so full of life and the descriptions of the island make you want to hob on that boat as well. Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review! I really loved One Day in December and was hoping to love this book as much as her first. One Night on the Island is a love story, but where the chemistry falls flat between the two main characters, it is palpable with the island and its residents. Cleo, a big city romance columnist, gets sent on a vacation/assignment to a remote island off the coast of Ireland to self-couple. Upon arrival, she discovers that the lodge she was supposed to have to herself for several weeks has also been “reserved” by the lodge owner’s American nephew, Mack, While I was drawn in by the synopsis, unfortunately I had trouble connecting with the main characters and their relationship. The book started out incredibly slow, but once we got to know more of the island residents, the story became more interesting (at least for me). And, as I mentioned, the descriptive parts of the book create such a beautiful image of the island in my head. While this title didn’t live up to One Day in December for me, I’d definitely recommend this book to fans of Josie Silver’s other works.

The adage 'no man is an island' is about to have Cleo and Mack testing that theory. Cleo is seeking a quiet retreat preparing for her 30th-birthday celebration. Mack journeyed to Salvation to connect with his past while coming to terms with his heartbreak.

Finding themselves sharing a cabin, a thinly-lined chalk outline divides the room carving out their quarters. From squabbling to solidifying a friendship, the island teaches them what's important in life. Will they emerge stronger with the islanders flocking around them to give them strength?

I loved Josie Silver's 'One Day in December' and eagerly awaited reading 'One Night on the Island.' That being said, I had trouble connecting with the first few chapters. I was pleasantly surprised at the climax, when I found myself falling in love with the story.

The raw richness of emotions to the characters risking everything in pursuit of happiness, Silver pens protagonists that are filled with heart, humor and humanity. Closing the final chapter, I could pick Cleo and Mack out of a line up and rooted for their happiness.

Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early edition of #OneNightontheIsland in exchange for an honest review. Through Cleo's journey, I learned a lot about myself. I've been struggling during the pandemic and seeking out opportunities to connect with the world. Silver's novel reawakened my passion to travel and forgo my inhibitions.

This is the kind of romance book I would recommend to my mom.

It's sweet, has real life experiences, and is very surface level when it comes to the plot. Great for a certain kind of reader, but after having just read another romance book where the connection between the two characters sparked off the page in a very tangible way, the romance in this felt very subdued to me.

That's not a bad thing - sometimes a quiet romance hits the spot - but at this particular time, it just missed the mark for me personally. I might have to revisit this when I'm in the mood for that specific kind of softness.

But overall, this is classic JS storytelling that takes complicated characters in real, complicated situations and tries to give them the most realistic/suitable ending. So if you enjoyed her previous books, then you should definitely be adding this to your TBR!

It was hard to get into at first then it was okay im not sure how you can write about characters that hate each other so much then make them fall in love not my favorite of hers so far thanks for letting me read it though I do love her other books though

I waffled a lot on three or four stars for this book, so we'll call it 3.5, rounded up to 4. This was a very sweet and atmospheric romance. I think one of the things Josie Silver does really well is write pining. The emotions in this story truly come through. The setting is also remarkably well described, and the community seems really lovely. I did find the story a little long, with some storylines that were a little bit dragged out, particularly in the final act. But overall this is an enjoyable one that will please the author's fans.

I am in love with this book. The first thing about this novel I love is that it’s a romance, second it’s dual-POV, and third it’s grumpy-sunshine. Something that made it impossible to put down is how delicate and intricate the detail is in the book, this is written with care and thoughtfulness.

One has come to the island on assignment and the other to learn and connect with his roots.

This book really connected with me especially Cleo’s complicated outlook on love, her fear of turning thirty, and her special checklist.

I’ll be honest this book was beautiful and for me tragic because it hit me hardest in spots I hardly ever like the reach. I despise thinking about my life passing me by and feeling as if I’m missing the milestones.

Each word tugged on my heart strings sometimes causing sadness, other times pure joy. This book has become one of my new favorite novels and I cherish the moment I finally hold it in my hands.

Cleo and Mack have my heart and I doubt anyone will capture it anytime soon.

“He breathes my name like a spell”
Chalk line symbolically and physically scrubbed
“Temporarily perfect”
‘Seashells’
“I lie awake and watch her sleep, thinking about the sliver of her heart now patched into mine. I’m going to need it.”
‘Bruce Springsteen’

Those are a few quotes that stood out to me as well as meaningful parts of the novel that I hope you too find deep connection with. As I sit here listening to this love by Taylor Swift I just wanted to say this song fully defines how this book made me feel, love, loss, and content.

Thank you to Random House Publishing, NetGalley, and Josie Silver for allowing me to experience this incredible novel. I cannot wait to own my own copy someday soon!
