Thank you to St. Martin's Publishing and Net Galley for allowing me to read a digital ARC.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. The writing and pacing were great. The characters were pretty likable and the story was interesting.
The plot twist wasn't a major shocker but I still enjoyed it.
I'd totally read another book by his author
First off I want to say a big thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s press for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I had a really good time with this book. Imagine waking up and not remembering two years of your life..... It reminded me at times a little bit like the movie Memento with the whole memory thing and taking notes to remember things. This book was very well done and a quick read that kept me wanting to read to see what else Liv remembers. I also liked the two detectives Darcy Halliday and Jack Lavelle. The story is told with multiple time lines to go back and build up whats happening. I found everything about this one great and looking forward to reading more from this author. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s press for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
⭐️Stay Awake by Megan Goldin⭐️
Thanks to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the E-ARC!
It’s best to go in blind so short synopsis below:
Liv Reese wakes up in the back of a taxi with no idea where she is or how she got there. When she’s dropped off at the door of her brownstone, a stranger answers―a stranger who claims to live in her apartment. She reaches for her phone to call for help, only to discover it’s missing. In its place is a bloodstained knife. Her hands are covered in scribbled messages, like graffiti on her skin: STAY AWAKE.
I thought I loved The Night Swim but Stay Awake is even better! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! It has such a fast paced plot and definitely created a feeling of uneasiness. Liv was truly living a nightmare and it transferred so well to the pages. Five stars from me and I won’t be forgetting this one anytime soon!

Liv Reese remembers nothing from the last two years. She can try to remind herself with notes scrawled across her hands and arms, but every time she falls asleep, her memory resets. So when her catchphrase STAY AWAKE is splashed across a murder scene, all signs point to Liv. What has she done? Who can she trust? Is she sane?
Stay Awake is absolutely humming with tension. Between the ticking clock, alternate timelines, varying POVs, and the pressure to dodge whoever killed the man in the apartment, this story is truly chilling. It's paranoid, creepy, and has major conspiracy theory vibes, all wrapped up with a weird sense of deja-vu. Utterly riveting.
As engrossing as this book is, I do have a couple of gripes. The whole "Liv doesn't remember anything because she just woke up" thing gets rehashed every time she takes a nap or is introduced to another character. The reader doesn't have amnesia. But the story did 'forget' about some of the more interesting subplots without tying up the loose ends. And doesn't Liv ever wash her hands?!
That said, I never had to remind myself to stay awake. No, this is one compulsive psychological thriller that will most certainly keep you up at night.
Thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
What would you do if you wake up and forget the last 2 years of your life. Liv Reese experiences memory loss when she falls asleep, waking up to notes written on her hands and arms telling her to stay awake and trust no one. Slowly she has to piece together her life not knowing where to turn next.
An intriguing story of the depths a woman will go too, to repair her life. Although because of the subject the story can get repetitive, it's still an interesting read that keeps you guessing. You will get emotionally invested in the story wondering what you would do in the same situation, while discovering what as happened in those missing two years.
Wow ! Great read I couldn't put it down . I would definitely recommend this book . Thank you Netgalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review
Stake Awake is an awesome thriller! As one of my favorite genres, I have to say I loved the unique premise of this book. It’s a story I haven’t read before and I really appreciate that, as well as the suspense, drama, twists and turns, and multiple perspective. It also did exactly what a thriller should do, I was uncomfortable, anxious, creeped out, and invested, all of which kept me furiously turning the pages.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s press for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review. Stake Awake publishes on 8/9/22, add it to your tbr list now!
4.5 stars rounded up!
This book was a really enjoyable read. It was a combo of the film Memento and Before I go to Sleep by SJ Watson. The premise of the book is Liv Reese the main character looses all her memories from the last 2 years every time she falls asleep due to psychological and physical trauma. Much to Liv's surprise she is the prime suspect in a murder case but she can't seem to make sense of it all. The story alternates between the POV of the investigating detective and Liv (both present and 2 years previous).
I've been wanting to read a psychological thriller like this for some time but find most fall short of my expectations. I loved how the plot was slowly drawn out and the author used short chapters to keep you excitement high.
Thanks to the publisher for the advance reader copy! This was a fun read.

Liv Reese has no memory of the last 2 years of her life. She is scared and confused due to a specific form of amnesia. Though you may have to suspend your thinking of “could this be true”, it totally works for this book. This book takes us from the past to the present, which I love. MG wrote this book almost flawlessly and made me not want to put it down! It has the right amount of suspense and excitement for me. The ending was action packed and so exciting!!
Im giving this book 5 stars! The only issue I had was knowing who was the narrator at times. I really like Det. Halliday and think she could be in another book, but it was a bit confusing at times between her and Liv’s narration.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this arc copy in exchange for an honest review. It is also posted on good reads.
Liv Reese wakes up in the cab in NYC with no memory of how she got there. Arriving at her apartment she pays the driver in cash and then realizes does not have her purse, phone or keys to enter her building, She rings the bell to wake her roommate, Amy to let her in. Strangers answer the door. Amy isn't there, nor are any of Liv's things or her cat. Thrown out of "her " apartment and back on the street, she is confused and panicked. She puts her hands into the pocket of her long cardigan only to discover a bloody knife wrapped in a t-shirt. Liv's hands are covered with writing - "stay awake" , "wake up" and the name and address of a bar Nocturnal This is where she goes to next. The bartender greats her like an old friend, but she has no idea who he is. He tells her that she was in earlier that night. He says she does not like to sleep because she is afraid of what she does in her sleep. Liv thinks back to the bloody knife.
Whenever Liv falls asleep, she wakes up thinking it is 2 years earlier. She doesn't know what has happened during that span of time, but she finds that she is the suspect in a murder case. She doesn't want to forget what she has learned since waking up, so she tries not to fall asleep. Living on terror and caffeine is not the best of combinations. Who can she trust? What has she done? Who is after her?
Stay Awake is exactly what I wanted to do in order to finish this book! Not since Gone Girl have I been hooked right away and wanted to see what was going to happen next. Stay Awake by Megan Goldin is a must read!
My thanks to St. Martin's press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
I loved this book. I think the book could do without the detective point of view, but it was still so fun. I found myself Compulsively flipping the pages. I discussed the book in this video starting at 1:20

his one kept me on the edge of my seat! Perfect for fans of "The Flight Attendant" and the movie "Memento." I enjoyed uncovering Liv's memories along with her, and was really invested in the mystery!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for this ARC!
Stay Awake by Megan Goldin
Who Is Liv Reese and why does she have STAY AWAKE and other things written on her hand?
The book opens as Liv wakes up in a taxi, dazed and confused, not knowing where or how she got into the cab nor what happened before that.
She has amnesia and she will do things like go back to her home of two years ago, call people who were in her life then, and then she wonders why strangers are living in her home now.
We join Liv on her journey to see if we can find some answers.
Thrills, chills, mayhem and murder ensue in this book.
The reader will NOT need to write Stay Awake on their hand or anywhere, they will be too busy reading to get some answers.
I liked Liv and really enjoyed this quick, tense, intense thriller.
Another winner from this author.
Highly recommended

I received an e arc in exchange for an honest review, so thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this great e arc.
review published at NetGalley, Goodreads, wordpress and amazon.
This was a fast-paced mystery that I enjoyed from the beginning. It’s about Liv, who suffered from a rare form of amnesia due to a trauma she witnessed a couple years ago. Any time she fell asleep, she’d wake up not remembering anything.
But now, her life was in danger.
I enjoyed the pace, the writing, the complex storyline, the characters, and the ending. What else could I ask for in a book. I can easily give Stay Awake five stars.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read it in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this one to my reading friends.
🔪🔪🔪🔪 4.5/5 this book really had me addicted within the very first chapter. Had to keep telling myself “stay awake” to finish just one more chapter….then another one after that.
Liv Reese a food writer for a magazine, wakes up in a cab and doesn’t know where she is or where she’s going. Her memory from the last 2 1/2 years is gone. Any time she goes to sleep, it’s like starting all over when she wakes up. A murder happens with a strange message written in blood and Liv happens to have the murder weapon, all signs point to her. But do they really? Must stay awake to find out!
A woman awakens to find nothing is as it should be. Someone else is living in her apartment, her desk is assigned to another person. It's not even the proper season of the year. She discovers cryptic writing on her hands. What does it mean? Meanwhile, detectives arrive at the scene of a brutal murder where the same cryptic message is written in the victim's blood. Goldin's fans will enjoy this.
Well this one made my head spin & made me dizzy. The cops weren’t the only ones on a wild goose chase during this entire book. I felt like I was right along with them the entire time.
I was equally creeped out, confused, and intrigued while reading from start to finish. Each chapter switches POV from the MC Liv in the past & present, to present day with both leading detectives on the murder case. At times it was confusing as to what time frame the POV was really in, but I also enjoyed going back and forth between characters. I definitely couldn’t guess the twists, which was a fun surprise. And let me just say, don’t read this before going to bed. 🥴 Even though it gave me the heebie jeebies, I still enjoyed it!
A huge thank you to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press, & Megan Goldin for this e-arc.

Stay awake and read just one more chapter! No, try stay awake and read several more chapters late into the night! So addictive! More like this please! I feel bad for the book I read next! May need to switch genres just to even the playing field. Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher’s and of course the very talented Megan Goldin for this compelling thriller!
The title is no lie. This one kept me awake, turning pages to the very end. I found Liv to be a likeable, though frustrating, character. You want to root for her but find yourself wanting to shake her sometimes because she takes her “trust no one” mantra to the extreme. It would have been easy for the story to get repetitive due to Liv’s amnesia and needing to relearn the same things again and again, but Goldin manages to keep things fresh and keep the reader engaged. This is another hit from Goldin as far as I’m concerned!
Thank you to Net Galley and St. Martin’s Press for the chance to read the uncorrected proof in exchange for an honest review.
This was twisty fun! At times I had a hard time keeping up with the timeline, but I really enjoyed the story and figuring out what was happening. There were things I expected and was right about and things that were totally unexpected. I really enjoy this author and look forward to more from her. Thanks Netgalley in the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
