Well written, kept me interested. Figured out the bad guy (or thought I did and I was right) midway or so. I'd read more by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley I was able to read an advance copy of this wonderful book.
A great thriller/mystery/page turner!
I read tons of thrillers and this is one of the best I’ve ready in past couple of years.
I highly recommend it.
This was an amazing read and a 4 star review! This book is set to come out August 2022!
This was a fast read for me and I found myself trying to sneak time to read as a busy mom. I love how the author used the writing to make us feel as disoriented as Liv, the main character. The short punchy chapters and different point of views ramped up the feeling of suspense so that you couldn't read fast enough!
The only things that kept this from a 5 star review- the reveal at the end. It was a bit of a twist but it wasn't really explained well enough why they did the two murders. Each chapter was a different point of view and different timeline. This started getting disorienting for me as a reader and I think it would have been easier if Goldin did a few chapters in one timeline before switching. It did not take away from the story at all but was a little confusing at times especially if a chapter was only a few pages long.
Perfect for fans of- "The Woman in the Window", thrillers, mysteries, popcorn thrillers (short quick chapters)
Thank you Netgalley for a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This was a fun thriller. It starts out with Liv waking up in a cab in NYC, not remembering anything. She sees ink on her skin, written on her wrist is "STAY AWAKE" She gets dropped off at her apartment to look for her roomate Amy. When she gets there, 2 strangers answer the door and have no who Amy is, and it's no longer her apartment. When she reaches for her phone, she finds a bloody knife wrapped in a t-shirt. There has also been a murder, where someone has scrawled in blood, on a window, "STAY AWAKE" . What has she done? Someone does know what she's done, and wants her to forget what happened.
This was a mystery that involves memory loss. I felt the middle got a little repetitive, but I still really thought it was good. I liked how the final reveal played out too. I loved how Liv would remember things and that would slowly start to unravel clues as to what was going on!
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy! All opinions are my own!
Megan did not disappoint with this book. I would definitely suggest this be used for a HS or college psych class. Poor Liv falls asleep wakes up and knows nothing of what happened before. How did she get where she was! What happened to her best friend Amy and did she really kill people? Liv has a rare form of Amnesia will this lead to her being killed?
You will never want to put the book down. The best read yet
**3.5 Stars**
Thrillers aren't usually my first choice, but I'm glad I picked this one up. This is a murder mystery/thriller and it's definitely a page turner.
The main concept of the book is that every time our MC, Liv, wakes up, she does not remember anything that has happened for the last two years. The story is told in dual POV from Liv's perspective and the perspective of the detective (Darcy) who is trying to solve the murder and ALSO dual timeline between the present and two years ago. Doing this kept things from being too repetitive and gave the reader more of a chance to figure out what was going on rather than if it was only told from Liv's POV. All in all, I thought this concepted was executed very well.
I thought all the procedural stuff with the police was great, although I did skip over some backstory dialogue with Darcy and her partner on the case. Though, how they managed avoid speaking to her roommate's ex and Liv's coworkers for most of the book, I'll never know.
When it comes to the twists, the one at around 68% was predictable (not a bad thing) but when it came down to the reveal it was a bit anticlimactic. Just felt a bit rushed. The killer reveal at the end was a bit better but there was still something missing. I will say I'm pleased with the ending because it actually MADE SENSE! The motive was clear and nothing really came out of left field. There were enough red herrings that I wasn't entirely sure who the killer would be but again I don't really read thrillers so I don't have the practice to be able to put everything together. I also loved that there was no romance in this except for the flashbacks with Liv's boyfriend. If there's one thing I know about me and thrillers it's that I don't like a romance subplot.
I'm definitely going to pick up more Megan Goldin in the future and I can't wait to recommend this book to my friends.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing this book in return for an honest review.
Like Liv, the protagonist of "Stay Awake," readers will be struggling to keep their eyes open. While Liv has more life-and-death reasons for not wanting to fall asleep, you will simply want to keep reading!
A character who suffers from an unusual memory loss every time she sleeps creates a fantastic framework for a thriller. The story jumps back and forth between present-day Liv, who starts her life fresh every time she wakes, the Liv of two years ago, before the trauma that uprooted her and caused her problems, and the police trying to solve one of the murders that Liv is accused of committing. The key question is: she did murder these people, or is she being framed? The fact that the reader's investigation is not linear, but fashioned like a puzzle, sows confusion and intrigue. Liv is a mostly-sympathetic character, but no one--even herself--is sure if she is innocent. Her uncertainty about almost every aspect of her life and the people she knows (does she know them?) makes for the perfect backdrop. I loved Megan Goldin's last book, "The Night Swim" and couldn't wait to dive into this one. It did not disappoint. Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with the ARC of this fascinating thriller!
I LOVED this book. I felt just as anxious and confused as Liv, and truly had no idea how it was going to end. Definitely recommend to people that love thrillers!
Imagine every time you fall asleep, you lose your memory. That’s exactly what happens to Liv Reese in Stay Awake by Megan Goldin. She is stuck in the past 2 years ago. Liv is trying to solve a murder. Each chapter had the date/time and switches from past to present. We read from Liv’s perspective and the detectives perspectives. This book was one of her best psychological thrillers I’ve read in a long time! Definitely keep t me guessing and was well written.
Imagine waking up in an unknown place with no recollection as to how you got there or why you’re there. This happens to Liv Reese every time she falls asleep. A traumatizing event rocked Liv’s world but no matter how hard she tries, she’s unable to remember her life.
When Liv’s image is captured on CCTV while she was leaving the scene of a murder, it’s up to Detective Darcy Halliday to piece it together and find Liv before someone tries to take her life….again!
This psychological thriller was so gripping, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! This book added the right amount of mystery and gave me some 50 First Date (the movie) vibes. The characters were amazing, I loved the POV’s from both Darcy & Liv, and the duel timeline was so easy to follow.
Liv Reese wakes up in a taxi heading to her apt, but discovers complete strangers living there. She has no phone, no wallet, and no memory of the last two years, but she does have a bloody knife wrapped in a tee shirt.
Stay Awake is a thriller/mystery with an unreliable narrator who has short term memory loss/amnesia. As the book progresses, it also folds the two timelines from now and two years ago together to help show the reader what happened to Liv two years ago and why she is still in danger now. We also get a NYPD Homicide Detective as an alternate narrator as they investigate a murder that slowly leads them to Liv.
How the past and present and Liv and the detectives all converge worked out very well and kept me intrigued until the end. I typically don't enjoy thrillers that feel too easy to figure out but this one left enough clues all through out to keep it interesting without the final reveal feeling like too much of a reach at the same time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it for lovers of thrillers.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the electronic ARC copy of this novel for review.
I wanted to Stay Awake all night to finish this thriller. Liv Reese’s memory has failed her – “stay awake” written at a crime scene matches the writing on her own arm, but why? Why can’t Liv remember a murder she committed, or did she? Alternating between past and present, Liv forgets everything after she falls asleep, so she tries to stay awake. Throughout this heart pounding novel, readers are taking on a wild ride to reveal what really happened and how the truth involves Liv, despite people trying to make her forget.
I wanted to love this book so much, however, unfortunately I really dislike the "unreliable narrator" trope in thrillers. I know I will be in the minority for this one- but I just didn't think the situation was very realistic and I'm not great at suspending disbelief. I will definitely give this author another chance, as I loved Night Swim!
Quite a page-turning psychological thriller. I was immediately invested in Liv's story and deciphering the clues right along with her. I am not exaggerating when I say I could not stop reading! This is very well written and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end.
Liv wakes up in a back of a cab with no memory of how she got there and where she is going. When she arrives to her apartment, she finds someone else living there - and no sign of her roommate. She has phrases written on her arms and hands - but nothing makes sense. I found myself immersed in her confusion and fear and trying to figure out what is going on.
We also meet the detectives who are working to solve a murder - a murder where all the evidence points to Liv as the killer. The race to find the killer and for Liz to find out what is going on keep you flipping the pages.
If you enjoy psychological thrillers, this is one not to miss!
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for sending me an ARC of Stay Awake in exchange for an honest review.
Let me start by saying I am a Megan Goldin fan. I loved Night Swim and The Escape Room. So, I was excited to receive this ARC. This book is very suspenseful and at times super creepy. I was hooked from the start and read it quickly. I always laugh a little when I see a book described as "unputdownable" but that is how I would describe Stay Awake. I did have some serious issues with the book but it held my attention and that is important!
At about 50% I thought this book was heading into 5-star territory but it fell a little short in the end. For one thing, Liv is annoying. She has so many opportunities to talk to people who can tell her about her past but she runs every time someone is about to disclose information that she claims she needs to know. Also, she managed to get from London to the U.S. and rent an apartment. That is pretty implausible. Also, I realize only two days pass from the 2nd murder to the ending but she doesn't shower or brush her teeth and nobody seems to notice?! I didn't care for how the story is wrapped up. The motivation for the crimes is clear but the motivation for the stalking of Liv before the initial crime in definitely not. The stalking didn't make sense and it was so central to the story. That is my biggest issue.
BUT... overall I really enjoyed reading this book. It was creepy and fun!! I'm not sure if this is 3.5 or 4 stars. May change later after I think about it some more.
**Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Publishing Group for this advance copy.
So dang good! It was a really fast paced mystery and I didn’t guess the ending which is always a win in my opinion. If I can set a thriller book down and not obsess about the next time I can read it then it isn’t a good thriller in my opinion because I want to be on my toes at all times. This delivered on exactly that.
Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARC to review! Stay Awake is a standalone thriller by Megan Goldin. It will be published August 9, 2022.
The last thing Liv remembers is answering her office phone during the day. However, when she wakes up, she finds herself in the back of a taxi at night with her own handwriting covering her hands and arms, Most prominently, she notices the words STAY AWAKE across her knuckles. Unbeknownst to her, Liv is suffering from a dissociative fugue in which she loses all memory of the previous two years each time she goes to sleep. She also reaches into her pocket and finds a bloody knife wrapped in a t-shirt. She has no clue how it got there. She does her best to stay awake until the next morning, where she sees a murder scene on the news. The words WAKE UP! are written on the victim's window in his blood. Could Liv be the murderer? Even she doesn't know.
This book had me riveted from start to finish! I could not put it down! The book was told in two different timelines and also from two different perspectives. Liv's point of view is told in both timelines. One is from two years ago, and one is from the present. The other perspective is that of Detective Darcy Halliday. I thought that the different timelines and perspectives were sprinkled into the story at exactly the right times. I felt like this story unfolded at the right pace, and my brain was fully absorbed the entire time with trying to figure out both what happened in the past and what would happen next. I found myself so busy devouring Liv's story that I gave little thought to the murderer until the very end of the book. The plot was fresh and exciting! I read a lot of thrillers, and few have me racing to the finish like this one did. Read this book!

I liked Stay Awake so much! It's been a long time since I read a creepy and weird thriller like this one. I didn't guessed the ending which is always a bonus. Typically, I don't gravitate toward investigator/detective stories but this one really worked for me.
Liv’s last memory is sitting in her office and answering the phone, but somehow years have passed and Liv has no idea where the last two years of her life has gone.
Unable to get in touch with her friends Liv’s only clues are messages she finds written on her arms. The situation intensifies when the same message is found at a murder scene.
The classic “who done it”
While I did really enjoy the bulk of this book I found the ending to be a major let down. It wasn’t a shocking twist, it was more of a … “ok, but that’s a pretty big stretch”
In fact anyone I talk to who has read this book, all said the same thing.
Some books when the killer is revealed is like
- wow. Of course. How did I not see that.
This one is more
- riiiiiiiight. But why?
