Adult Thriller. Each time Liv falls asleep, she wakes with no memory. Even though Liv feels she's being watched and tricked, the police don't believe she has a stalker. She is also considered the prime suspect in a police investigation, but the evidence has always been weak. This is a thrilling and suspenseful murder mystery that keeps one guessing. Liv's memory gaps serve as a catalyst -- keeping the reader and police in the dark until the end.

‘Stay Awake' has been the first of Megan Goldin's books that I have read, and I will be seeking out her other works after enjoying this one. As promised, the opening chapter had me quickly lured into Liv's vulnerability and confusion stemming from her repetitive memory loss. The following collection of chapters moved at a slower pace, although I had to follow closely until I fell into the rhythm of the alternating points of view. I had anticipated being most attracted to the obscurity of Liv's amnesia and whatever possible trauma shook her to that result. It surprised me that the detective's role was what captivated me more throughout the book - the descriptions and images portrayed around the investigative process were very well written and I loved following along. The amount of seemingly important details and number of inconspicuous personalities had me wishing I started a link chart to organize it all. While there were parts that seemed predictable, Goldin expertly kept the roller-coaster going with more unexpected loops and turns that moved at a faster, page-flipping pace up to the very end. I'll be re-reading this again and would recommend it to anyone who loves the challenge a thriller like this can offer.

I appreciate the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, for the opportunity to read an electronic Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Holy crap. This book messed. me. up.

This is one of the most exciting psychological thrillers I have ever read. I'm not a fan of the unreliable narrator trope, but there are certain instances when it can be used super effectively, And this is one of those times. It reminded me so much of ‘The Flight Attendant’ and the beginning of 'The Night Of’ in that regard.

And I LOVED discovering Liv's memories along with her. I became just as obsessed as she did. I know the whole situation is pretty unrealistic, but it creates such a paranoid and distrustful atmosphere that works so well for mystery/thrillers. It's exactly the right kind of suspense I want from this kind of story.

This is such a fascinating and engrossing book and definitely my favourite from MG so far! I already can't wait to reread it and notice all the little things that I missed the first time around.

I really wanted to love this one. Especially because I absolutely enjoyed The Night Swim when I listened to it last year. But I got around the 20% mark and was so confused! All the time stamps and the flashbacks and the present were introduced in such a confusing way. I just was not a fan of the format or the storyline really - it was convoluted. I can only imagine how confusing it would be as an audiobook without being able to physically keep track of the dates and times.

Every time Liv wakes up, she doesn't remember anything from the past two years, including an attempted murder. She wakes up and discovers strangers live in her apartment and she's a suspect in a murder case. I really like how the reader shared in Liv's confusion as well as her and the detectives desire to find out what happened.

I enjoyed this book. I especially liked the fact that we were able to see the crime from the point-of-view of the investigators. The short chapters kept the story moving and me turning the page. I would definitely recommend Stay Awake to my friends and family.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

I enjoyed this book. It was a twisty little devil about a woman named Liv who wakes up in a cab and finds that nothing in her world is what she remembers. On her arms and hands are inked messages demanding her to stay awake. Strangers are living in her apartment and she has a bloody knife in her pocket instead of her phone. As the hours unfold, she finds herself the suspect in the brutal murder of a man she doesn't know she knows.

This book was fast-paced and engaging. I didn't want to put it down and quite enjoyed reading it.

Liv wakes up in a cab with no memory of how she got there and later realizes her last memory occurred over over two years earlier and she is a murder suspect. Every time she falls asleep, she loses her recent memories. The whole thing was pretty implausible and I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but it ended up being pretty good if you can get over how unlikely it is. 4 stars.

This book was everything I was hoping for and further solidifies Megan Goldin as an auto-buy author for me. This was the third book of hers that I’ve read and it was another home run. I was hooked from the beginning finding out that the main character had all this writing on her hands telling her to stay awake and not to sleep and to not trust anyone. Creepy right? And it just gets better from there. The story takes place over one day along with some flashbacks to the past, so it moves along at a good pace. I read this book in one day because I had to know what was up with this character, what would happen to her, and how everything would play out. The answers did not disappoint. This story had the suspense and mystery I want in a thriller. Definitely check it out later this year!

I couldn’t put this book down. It was so fast paced & there were so many twists & turns throughout the alternating narratives and timelines. I had a good idea of who the murderer was by the middle of the story but the whole amnesia aspect really kept the plot interesting for me. Although Liv’s character definitely annoyed me at times, I ultimately understand why she was so reluctant to reach out to the authorities for help. I liked how the ending tied everything together perfectly without any loose ends or plot holes & didn’t leave me asking any questions. I look forward to reading more books by this author!

After two disappointing thrillers that I did not finish I just had to jump ahead to an author that I was sure would not disappoint!! I’M SO GLAD I DID – THIS BOOK WILL KEEP YOU TURNING THE PAGES AT A RAPID PACE!!! If you guess the ending, you are a superstar because I didn’t!!

The novel is written from the point of view of both Liv and Darcy, two of our central characters. There is also a dual timeline!!

Liv Reese wakes up in a cab with no idea where she is headed or why she is in a cab!! When she heads to the apartment that she shares with her friend Amy – she is blown away when she finds that two strangers now live in that apartment.

WHAT IS GOING ON????

Detective Darcy Halliday is a new homicide detective working with long timer Jack Lavelle. They are called to the scene of a murder; the man they find has been killed and a message has been written in his blood on the window. It is written for all of those outside to read – “STAY AWAKE” IS WRITTEN IN LARGE LETTERS!!

We follow Liv who has a type of amnesia, every time she sleeps, she forgets the last two years of her life!! She sees the news report of the murder and notices that the same message “STAY AWAKE” along with lots of others are written on the inside of her hands!!

I found that with each chapter we find out a little more about Liv and Amy and the detectives working the murder case.

WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THE BOOK:

Each chapter just got better and better, no lag time in this one!!

The author handled the dual timelines and two POV’s very well.

The characters were very well developed. I felt so much fear and empathy for Liv. I tried to imagine what it would be like to be so confused and disoriented due to lack of sleep. The author does a good job of portraying Liv’s feelings.

Detectives Halliday and Lavelle are both determined and intelligent and are trying their hardest to solve a murder case while also tracking down a possible suspect. I love strong female characters and Darcy was whip smart and very detail oriented.

I know a book is great when I get annoyed when anything gets in the way of my continued reading!! I allowed no phone calls, texts, etc for hours at a time.

I highly suggest you go into this book blind and let the author’s writing begin to unfold this terrific thriller!!

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher, St. Martin’s Press, through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to read and review this novel.

Stay Awake is a gripping tale, told between the past and present, leaving you anxious for answers. It's one of the best thrillers I've read in a long time. The pacing is fast and the writing sucks you right in. Anxiety and unease are woven through the entire thing, keeping you on edge the entire time. I loved the characters and I absolutely loved the ending.

Another smash hit by Megan Goldin who is at the top of my list for a "must read" when I see she has a new book coming out. "Stay Awake" begins with a confused Liv Reese who is in the back of a cab and no idea on how she got there. She can't seem to remember the last 2 years of her life and is living in the past. As the cab brings her to her apartment she is startled as nothing looks familiar.

Eventually Liv comes to realize she is wanted in connection for a homicide. There was a message in a window, "Stay Awake", ironically the same message is written on her arm. There are detectives that are looking for her, but at this point, she trusts no one. She can't sleep because if she does, she will wake up and forget everything all over again.

Goldin did a phenomenal job with Liv's character and you will be on the edge of your seat the entire time. As it says in the title, I literally Stayed Awake to read this. I could not put this down. Throughout the book you will find out about Liv's best friend Amy and Liv's boyfriend.

This is definitely a book to grab this summer!

What a great mystery! Stay Awake is definitely the kind of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Can you imagine waking up in the back of a taxi with no idea where you are or how you got there? Well, the author takes us on a ride that is complex and invigorating. A great thriller you must read.

I was so excited to get early access to this book. The premise of it sounded so intriguing and I love an unreliable narrator story. The delivery fell a bit flat for me and the plot felt a bit chaotic and all over the place. I struggled to stay engaged and felt that at times it was drawn out too much. I also found it repetitive in times when it didn't need to be and hard to follow at other times. The overall story itself was great and I loved the dual point of view, especially getting to read from the perspective of the Detective. Parts were very predictable but I was shocked by the big reveal towards the end! Everything after that felt a bit too easy. but I don't want to spoil anything for other readers. I would classify this as a slow-burn mystery. While this novel wasn't for me, I do know this will go over well for a lot of readers and will be recommending it to readers who love this sort of book.

Liv Reese wakes up disoriented and confused. She can't remember how she got where she is or why she has the words "Stay Awake" written on her hand. What she does remember is the apartment she shares with her best friend Amy, and he boyfriend who lives in the city. Only, when she shows up to that apartment, Amy isn't there and neither is any of her stuff. When she calls her boyfriend, a different man answers. What is going on? When she comes across a tv she notices a crime report of a recent murder on the screen. At the crime scene is the same message that is written on her hands, "stay awake," Coincidence? Or did she have something to do with it? She cannot remember anything from last night or the past two years for that matter. Now she is disoriented, and running from a crime scene she is unsure if she had anything to do with. Terrified, alone, and desperately trying to stay awake, Liv is not sure who to trust or where to turn.

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martins Press for early access to this one!
