This was a really good book!! Pulled me in right from the beginning. It's told from multiple POVs and in two timelines. We first meet Molly in 2013, a 23-year-old New Yorker and aspiring writer who meets Jake Danner, the lead singer of a band. We then jump to 2022 where Molly is now older, living in a small town, is married to a man named Hunter, and has a 5-year old daughter.
We also meet Sabrina, who Molly becomes close friends with in the present timeline but for nefarious reasons.
I enjoyed the relationships and how the characters came together. It was an enjoyable book that I'd recommend to friends! It was a slow burn at first but after awhile I couldn't put it down. It's written in such a way you just need to know what happens next.
One of my criticisms is the marketing of this book. It really doesn't feel like a thriller, or even a mystery. It's more of a drama with some twists. And don't get me wrong, the writing was GREAT but it did not have the suspense that thrillers bring.
TW: pregnancy, miscarriage, infertility, stalking
Thank you to @netgalley and @stmartinspress for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this book enough to see it through to the end. I liked the premise of the plot and the pacing of the storyline. I did find Molly to be a bit one dimensional and had trouble relating to her character. On the other hand I felt that Sabrina's character was more complex and relatable.
This was a really good book. Molly Diamond is the main character who falls for Jake Danner. Who is a lead singer of a band.
Years later she is married to Hunter. She meets and befriends Sabrina. Who has her own agenda with Molly. This has some twists.
Thanks to @netgalley @stmartinspress @carolatlovering for this ARC!! New author for me and by golly WOW 🤩
This is a sexy, mystery, drama novel that you just can’t put down. I finished this in almost one day.. this one was a page turning riddddde for me. I loved the character building and different POVs, as well as the past and present times. Just overall, an amazzzzing book! One of my favs I’ve read so far! MARK YOUR CALENDARS—this one comes out 6/14
This is my third novel by this author and I was not disappointed. In previous books there is usually a twist or a surprise in the story so I was expecting that in this book. She did a good job of still taking the story to unexpected places.
I enjoyed the characters and once you get caught up in this tale you don’t want to put it down. One negative was that the villain character was bit too crazy for my liking and felt a bit unrealistic. But the main couple, child, and friend couples were well drawn out. I think this should be a spring pick for book clubs if you want a domestic drama with a hint of risk lurking. 4 Stars and another solid book by Carola Lovering. Thank you #netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
3.5
quick read told from a few different POV and a few different periods of time. definitely twisty, turny, full of secrets and suspense. i enjoyed the first half of the book more than second half, which is rare. the ending has all the answered questions that one would want, but it felt too neat to me after the messy ride of a story we were on. i think this is one of those books that i would have liked to have ended open ended and up for the reader to figure out.
the reading was very engaging. i was hooked throughout all of the book and was so interested to see how things played out.
Emotionally charged. Gripping from the very first chapter. It’s heartwarming, it’s crushing, it’s beautiful and complex…”Can’t Look Away” is a knockout. If you’re anything like me, you’ll find yourself lost in thought for quite awhile after turning the last page. Highly recommend! (Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!)
4.5 stars
In Can't Look Away we follow Molly and Jake in their early 20's while they try to navigate their relationship as Jake is an up and coming rock star. We also follow Molly and Jake in the present day when they are suddenly brought back into each other's lives.
This is my first book by this author and won't be my last. Lovering's writing really did it for me with this one. I enjoyed the New York setting a lot. Unfortunately, the plot fell a little flat. This is being marketed as a thriller and it wasn't that. I felt as though this was more of a true drama. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I wasn't expecting a thriller. The twists were clever and I really liked most of the characters.

This novel follows the love of Molly and famous frontman Jake Danner. They fall in love in an instant and move fairly quickly in their love life. Molly is head over heels with Jake except when he goes on tour, when he always is ignoring her and not answering phone calls. This leads to a split and makes Molly decide to go for the practical and reliable Hunter. When Hunter and Molly settle in Flynn Cove, a super wealthy town in Connecticut Molly befriends Sabrina who, unbeknownst to Molly is now married to Jake. As the two couples start being friends the past starts being revealed. A fun read that is perfect for a pool day!
Can't Look Away was a fun thriller about the one that got away: Molly dates Jake for a bit and he writes a hit song about her. They break up and wonder about each other. Years later they end up in the same tiny affluent suburb and Jake's wife befriends Molly.
This one was full of twists and secrets and I ate it up happily! ✰✰✰
Would recommend for fans of domestic thrillers.
Carola Lovering can do no wrong. i really loved this one as I didn't know what to expect but overall this is my favorite kind of thrillers which is a character exploration.
I was drawn right in from the first pages was so involved I stayed up way to late reading.A-love story a drama an author who never fails.will be recommending this page turner.#netgalley #st.martins.
Can't Look Away is a definite page-turner of a thriller. When I read the description, I was not sure that I would enjoy this book as much as I did. I am always up for a good mystery/psychological thriller...something that will keep me on my toes and wanting to continue to read. This book definitely delivered and I absolutely would highly recommend! The main character, Molly, is a yoga teacher, married with one kid and thoughts of growing her family. She is struggling to find connections and make friends in Flynn Cove when.... In walks Sabrina ....the new girl in town. Molly and Sabrina become quick friends, and before you know it, Molly's past comes creeping in. As it all unfolds, you see Molly navigate her new friendship, her unsettled past and her current life as she knows it. Both Molly and Sabrina are keeping secrets, but whose are the most destructive of them all?
@carolatlovering delivers another knockout of a story, this one full twisted lies and deceit. Sabrina loves Jake and is determined to make him hers, again, at any cost. Told in alternating voices Can’t Look Away will have you hooked from the beginning and holding on until the very end!
Can’t Look Away is an addicting, drama-packed novel. Although it’s categorized as a thriller/suspense, for me it was more of a romance with a side of suspense. I absolutely loved the alternating timelines as well as the alternating POVs. This book left me feeling heartbroken, much like a Colleen Hoover novel. Definitely worth putting on your TBR, especially if you love any of CoHo’s books or Daisy Jones and the Six! Thank you so much to the publisher, the author, and NetGalley for the ARC.
CAN’T LOOK AWAY
ARC Cordially provided by NetGalley~ Can’t Look Away by: Carola Lovering
First time reader to this author and I have to say it’s a good take to the beach or up to the cabin for cozy read.
It is a typical plot of “What ifs” for a now conventional wife and mother who is trying to reignite her life by trying to bcome a writer.
A bit of a wrench gets thrown into her plan when her past is suddenly coming though the radio station and an over friendly new comer weaves into her life.
It’s one of those books that now that you’ve tipped your toe into u gotta cannon ball in.
I have to say the title is a bit misleading... I could look away but for the most I’d say it was a nice read.
If u’re looking into something Hallmarky’ then this is ur lot.
I am more of a “who” “whoa” “WHAT” type of plot lines w/unexpected endings and such but I may look into reading this author again!
3 Solid STARS
This weekend I finished reading Can’t Look Away by Carola Lovering thanks to @netgalley !! I really liked Too Good to Be True last year, which made me really excited to see what she would write next. Added bonus she’s from CT so her books take place here!
Can’t Look Away follows a woman named Molly. She had a whirlwind romance right after college with a musician. Things ended and it’s now years later. She’s married, has a daughter, and is going through fertility treatments. One day she’s teaching yoga and a woman named Sabrina comes to the class. They spark a friendship, but will her past now catch up to her?
❤️Review❤️
Major trigger warnings in here with infertility and miscarriage. I normally don’t include trigger warnings, but these were major plot points throughout the entire book. I liked being able to see the characters through different perspectives and time frames to see how they’ve grown and changed. Although the twist was predictable I found myself really invested to see how it would all play out in the end. It was the train wreck that you couldn’t look away from. You knew it was coming, but you had to watch anyways. The ending wrapped up almost too easily in my opinion, which left me torn between a 3 and a 4 star rating. I decided to go with a 4, but it was definitely closer to a 3 than a 5 for me.
4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Told in alternating timelines/perspectives, Can’t Look Away starts in 2013 when grad student Molly who dreams of becoming a published author, meets up and coming rockstar Jake. They quickly fall in love and have a tumultuous relationship…
This is my favorite Carola Lovering book yet!! The multiple timelines and perspectives were so well written and kept me from being able to put down TBR book. I love a thriller with love story undertones and this had solid twists I didn’t see coming.
Hmm. What to say about this one. Is it a good book? Yes. Did I like it? No. But let me explain:
In a book world where thrillers fly off the shelves, I have come across some books in the past few years that are strongly marketed as thrillers that absolutely are not thrillers. If there is a single grain of sand of suspend in the novel, they call it a thriller. This is a marketing mistake that is unfair to both the readers and the authors. It leads readers to books they end up not liking, which they then write negative reviews of which hurts the author.
Can't Look Away follows all of the above. It is not a thriller. It is domestic drama or women's fiction. The novel follows the entire relationship of "the ones who got away" and mixes in a messy love triangle that adds some drama. But overall, this book is about people, love, relationships, life and how all of that can get tangled and make us look back on our lives and wonder "what if".
I personally didn't enjoy this book because that is not the kind of story I like. I fell victim to incorrect marketing. But this is not a bad book at all! It's really nice, if you like reading about love and relationships. The writing is really good as is the character development and the multiple timeframes and POVs. It's not a bad book, it's not poorly written, just know that it is not a thriller.
4.5/5 stars
The book is categorized as a thriller but I don't think that is the best way to describe it. It's a little bit drama, little bit thriller, little bit romance all rolled in to one. My favorite kind of book.
I love the way the author wove the characters together to create a great multifaceted story. It's a story of love and heartbreak in the characters early 20s. It's a story of growing and learning. It's a story of loss and healing.
It was such a wonderful easy read.
I'm so thankful I was able to read this one before its release date.
