I have to give Kenyon credit for a comeback after so many personal trials these past few years. The Dream Hunter books have never been my favorites. I still prefer the Dark Hunter books. Shadow Fallen was harder to get into; however, when familiar characters entered the narrative, I remembered more about the previous books. This is a highly typical Kenyon romance set up. Potential lovers meet, fall for each other, they each have multiple challenges pulling them apart but somehow end up together in the end.
Thank you Netgalley and TOR Books for the chance to read an advanced copy of Shadow fallen by Sherrilyn Kenyon. As it has been a long wait for any books from the author (through no fault of hers), I really wanted to read this right away. I am a big Dark Hunter and League fan, and basically devoured this book. I loved it, and once I got into the book realized why these two characters were introduced into the series. Shadow fallen had the perfect balance of new insight to the Dark hunter characters we have known and loved, and introducing us to new characters like Valteri and Ariel. I like the chemistry between them, and the humour from secondary characters we know from previous books. Hopefully we will not have to wait too long for the next books in the series!
Anyone reading this book as a stand alone will enjoy it, but may be confused by some of the background and characters as the Dark Hunter series as a whole is quite large! Take your time and read the series!!!!
Sherrilyn Kenyon is one of my favorite authors and she is also my auto buy author, plus she is also my comfort author. I read her books when I need a little comfort in my life. It felt so good to be back in the world of the hunters. Shadow Fallen had me guessing through out the whole book and I loved that. It is now in my top three favorite Sherrilyn's books. I recommend this book to my mom who also loves the hunters.
Valteri: Lets the world see the dark side of him that they think is the true side but he has a lighter side that is really him. You can see that side when he is with his squire Wace and the crossed eyed kitten name Cecilia. Then when Ariel shows up. He is one of my favorite heroes.
Ariel: I absolutely loved Ariel and she is one of my favorite heroin. She could have given up but she kept fighting, that is something I still struggle with. She showed Valteri that is more to him then meets that eye. She also showed him that he isn't the demonspawn that he was told he was.
I can't wait to read more from Sherrilyn.
Thank you Netgalley, Tor Books and Sherrilyn Kenyon for letting read and review Shadow Fallen
I enjoyed this book...kind of. It had great potential, but I thought it was a bit long-winded. We heard about the hero hating people/hating his life (which I admit was horrible), but it was overdone. The heroines predicament was the same. While the story itself was readable, I found myself speed reading in sections. I also thought the end was was so short, and really didn't wrap up the story very well. Add that into them both getting their powers for future reasons? They'll likely be another book which explains this, but I thought it was a disappointing end.
Ariel helps and protects people’s souls as they crossover. A woman curses her and she becomes human with no recollection of her past. Ariel’s curse is to love someone and have them die in her arms. She is put right in the middle of when the Normans invaded England. Valteri is the half brother of the ruling King. He has been demonized since the day he was born with his two different eye colors. Valteri is ready for his time to come to an end. He tries his best to push Ariel away but she is stubborn and have no plans of leaving him. But several want Valteri dead and they’ll stop at nothing.
I’ll be honest I was terrible confused at time. They both want each other but are constantly pushing each other away. There is fighting and a little lovin’.

I was provided an arc in exchange for an honest review via netgalley.
It's been a long time since a new book in the dark hunter series was released. I feared this would fall short of the usual epic standards but by god it exceeded it.
Shadow fallen was filled with more info of the dark hunter world, answering a couple of questions about certain characters, the storyline was amazing and the characters were really well suited to each other. I love how the olde English language was combined with modern terms as well. The comedy from a couple of characters was sensational and had me giggling.
The guest character at the end had me squealing.
Loved this book!!!
This new novel by Sherrilyn is a new era opened up in her writing. This new story introduces so many new interesting characters while still tying into some old favourites. It’s unique on its own and doesn’t feel like anything she has written before. The romance is a lovely slow burn with so many twists, turns and angst. It was a wonderful read for anyone who is in love with her novels as I am! I couldn’t put it down and read it in it’s entirety in one night. Her female character as always is very empowered even through her struggles and her male character is ever troubled with an in-depth back story. It is one of my new favourites!
Never read Sherrilyn Kenyon novels before.. How that comes? I love this one and I'm planning to read all previous ones! Brilliant dark story!
Wow, I loved this book! I loved being in this world (thank you to everyone involved for sticking around her while she was dealing with her ex!) again, and I loved getting to know these characters! Of he who had a horrendous childhood, though of as a the son of a demon, her being a supernatural being who was cursed and then having her memories taken, well, they have an interesting dynamic, because she's not scared of him.
This is the first time we've had this setting in this world. Sure, the Lords of Avalon series is part of this world, but that's well before when this book was set, which is around 1066 or after, since Valteri's brother, Willian, was crowned then, and King Arthur was a legend at the time (and while the Lords of Avalon series has time travel, it's got it's home base in medieval, after the fall of King Arthur times.) So that was fun to read!
I loved watching these two fall in love. They both had reasons why they shouldn't, and her "brother" didn't help matters. And watching them either face their fears, or deal with the problems they faced, was just a really great adventure! I just loved how they changed this world, just by being here, and I can't wait to see what, if any, part they'll play in the future of this series! After all, a certain character does make an appearance! Not to mention some of the other characters who pop up!
Valteri has an interesting dad, and I'm not sure what we previously knew, because there's a lot of moving parts to this world, so I'll try and say this without spoilers. But I have a question. Shadow's mom is Azure, and one of Valteri's brothers through their father has Azure as his mom. Wouldn't that be the same kind of pairing of light and dark that caused the Primus Bellum in the first place. (Apollymi is Braith, right? We learned that in the Chronicles of Nice, learning about the Malachai? Or that's what we're meant to believe, at least?)
Other question I have is, why is this part of the Dream-Hunter series specifically? Because these aren't the group of Dream-Hunters as previously shown in the series, as far as I can remember. I'd more put it in another one of the specific series. Which means either Valteri's dad is connected to the Dream-Hunters, or somehow Ariel is. But I don't know!
Loved this book, and I can't wait to continue the series now that the pieces are all picked up and she's getting into her writing groove!
I've followed Sherrilyn Kenyon's books for years and there's something comforting to me about them. They're pretty formulaic but I really love the world she's developed and how the worlds overlap with each other. It's hard to say I would recommend this one to people--because honestly, it's so far down the line in the series that I think you need to have already read some Kenyon books to really grasp who everyone is. But I liked it enough and I'll keep reading what she puts out.
Welcome back Sherrilyn, an excellent relaunch and I was very comfortable to feel like I was back home with another great read. Well done.📖📖📖👏👏
