There are some interesting elements at play here. At heart, it is a fairly standard elementary school narrative. We have the desire to belong; wanting to help others; jealousy about friends and power. It's the details that make the difference. It's Stella and her family becoming citizens and considering their relationship to their culture. And I like how Stella is a bit of a rigid character. She has these ideas about how things ill go, specific plans for helping and fixing everything. She has to learn to relax a little and adjust when things don't go according to plan. She also learns to listen, to be an ally instead of a savior. The ideas are addressed in a fairly straightforward way but that's appropriate for this age range.
Another great book from this author. Once again, showing a strong female lead giving young female readers a role model. Fun and relatable. I read it with my daughter who was engaged and was ready to read the other books in the series.
This is the 4th Stella Diaz book I've read and I just love being in Stella's world. I like how in each book, there are problems but not so many problems and such heavy problems, that the books get bogged down with them.
These are perfect for my elementary school students!
Oh, Stella. She's such a determined, passionate little girl. She reminds me of my own daughter and I love her.
In Stella Díaz to the Rescue, Stella and her friends are preparing to present to the city council, hoping that they'll be able to implement some plastic-reducing policies throughout the schools. And Stella's own family are preparing to become US citizens! On top of that, Stella is learning how to navigate a new friendship with kindness, compassion, and consideration.
Stella's experiences can help kids learn how to react to and deal with every day occurrences in good ways. My seven-year-old daughter and I both love reading about Stella and being inspired by her to live better lives. 💙
We love Stella in our house! Stella to the Rescue was an excellent story of families sticking together, supporting one another and learning about each other. As Stella's Mom works to get her citizenship, she learns more about her ancestry and culture. Stella continues to fight for clean water with her friends. Love this series!
This author and series is/are terrific. I love how reliable the books are and the use of language is exemplary.
A really sweet middle-grade book that focuses on family and immigration. I really loved this one and wish I could've read something like this when I was younger!!
Stella Díaz and light and sweet. The kind of story I’d recommend to students looking to see themselves in a story. I deeply appreciated the fluid mix of English and Spanish, the relatable story lines and the age appropriate management of heavy issues such as immigration and family dynamics. I strongly believe these are kinds of stories that inspire change and give children a reference point to humanize immigrants. Would love to see it in middle school libraries.
