I am Margaret Moore is a book that was billed as a "paranormal thriller" that is "lyrical and haunting". I think that the blurb writers got most of these accurate with one key issue. It is very lyrically written with repetition and cadence. It was paranormal which I was debating with myself if it was supposed to be known from the gate based on the book but something that I figured out quickly and after revisiting the synopsis realize was in fact to be known from the outset. The haunting part is something I felt the blurb got right for the YA crowd. The part of the blurb I take issue with is labeling this as a thriller. There was not much thrill in this book. When I requested this book I wanted the thrill of the naval boarding school and the mystery of Margaret Moore. What I got was a lyrical story of a life cut short and a girl watching over her friends. I got a story that jumped around in time and space without much mystery to be had.

I always try to set my expectations appropriately for YA books and know what to expect versus adult fiction but even with that in mind there is no way this should be categorized as a thriller in my book.

I think this book will find its readers in those who enjoy the paranormal, in those who enjoy lyrical writing and haunting stories. Do not go into this one expecting action and thrills, go in expecting a winding story of a group of summer friends trying to move past a summer they wish they could turn back the clocks on.

I received this as an audiobook ARC through Netgalley. I was so excited to listen to I am Margaret Moore. However, I am DNF at 25%. The narrator is doing a wonderful job, but I just cannot follow the story. There are a lot of Naval terms and it is written almost like poetry/lyrical. I did not see that any where in the description or I would not have requested it, that is not a writing style that I like. The chapters feel very choppy and it is hard to connect with any of the characters.

I wanted to make myself like this book but I couldn’t get there and had a hard time listening to/reading it. The words and style just flowed weird for me, I think.

I had trouble following this book via audio. I ended up DNF because I wasn't following but I am going to try to get my hands on a physical copy and try again! Thank you so much for this opportunity!

This was such a spooky and sad psychological thriller. Hannah has a way of writing something that just stays with you long after you're done reading.

Very flowery and lyrical writing! I enjoyed the voice of this novel and the things it’s trying to say a lot! I do feel that the flowery writing at times made it hard to ground my head in the story, but overall really enjoyed listening to this YA thriller from Hannah Capin! 3.75 Stars!

This certainly isn’t a book for everybody but if you like prose and flowery language you might actual enjoy the book. Some parts are a bit repetitive but it reflects the feelings of a young girl. How emotional and all overwhelming that first love can be. Add been taken advantage of and a complete betrayal will add to the feeling of despair.
You pretty much have to read or listen to the whole book to have it all fall in place and then you think why I didn’t see these connections earlier.
Caitlin Davie the Narrator did a great job on a story that wasn’t an easy story to tell but her voice had me mesmerized till the end.

Overall this book was just confusing to me... most of the story was just flowery writing and I ended up getting lost and really knowing what was going on. I was going to DNF it but when I checked how far in I was, I was at about 86% and just figured that I'd suck it up and finish. Was it worth it? In my opinion, no. Oh well.

I'm not entirely sure what I just read? The writing style is very unique and I don't think I'm a fan. It's kind of like prose - but not (done well, I really enjoy novel-in-verse stories). The sentences are short and choppy and while the narrative is basically a first person stream of consciousness, it also feels like it's in third person. Overall it's odd and somewhat off-putting. Given all that and that the narrative jumps around in Margaret's timeline, it gets confusing at times as a reader trying to figure out where you are at in the storyline.

Most of the "mystery" is easy to spot early on and the rest of the reveal wasn't all that surprising so I didn't get any level of thriller vibes from this. But maybe other readers will. And while by definition, this is a paranormal book, it also doesn't feel like one so categorizing it as such is misleading.

Caitlin Davies does a decent job with the audiobook, maybe this writing style makes more sense if read on the page instead of listening to the audiobook.

Overall, this was a miss for me. The characters didn't interest me, the paranormal/thriller details weren't there, and the writing style was hard to adjust to.

If you want a book that will haunt you long after you finish, I Am Margaret Moore is the book for you.

Told in prose, you follow Margaret as she's back at camp with her best friends and found family that is Deck 5. It's easy to tell early on that something is wrong but you don't know what. I had a hunch early on and while I ended up being right, I went back and forth frequently on it, unsure due to how well Hannah Capin wove this intricate tale.

This book made me want to cry. It made my blood boil. It gave me hope, though with a bittersweet tint to it. While I did call one twist, there was so much that followed that I never saw coming. The entire story encapsulates the deep bonds that can be woven between girls and how it grows when nurtured properly. It's an ode to summer, the promise and freedom it can bring.

I Am Margaret Moore is a work of art - one that words can never describe properly. I'd highly recommend listening to this on audio. Caitlin Davies did a wonderful job at voicing Margaret's dreams, wishes, heartache, and everything in-between.

I was so excited to listen to this audiobook for the paranormal premise, but I was rather disappointed. The audio was in constant lyrical verse. Poetry is not my jam, so I feel like this is why I didn't really connect with the book.

I loved the book description, but I found the book to be rather confusing. I felt like each chapter was a repeat with just a little bit of new information each time. There would be times when I thought I was understanding what was going on, but then no, I would figure out I didn't. Maybe I will try to read the book to see if I get a different perspective.

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Caitlin Davies is a phenomenal narrator and has never disappointed. I Am Margaret Moore is a teen suspense/thriller set in a posh summer camp for the children of the wealthy. The first half of the book was wonderful, building the suspense and laying the groundwork for the big reveal by winding through years of camp, showing the evolution of the strong relationships between the girls of Deck 5. The camp itself was focused on sailing, but many of the sailing references were left unexplained. After the big reveal, the book gets very repetitive and turns into prose for prose's sake coming to a complete standstill until the last bit of action takes place. Overall, the writing was lovely but could've been shorter.

DNF 40%

I really struggle with this book so I requested the audiobook to see if that helped.

Unfortunately it didn't

even though I like lyrical writing style, for some reason this writing style wasn't for me.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of alternative timelines. It takes a lot of skills to make it flow well for me. It really didn't help me immerse in the experience. I was confused and couldn't connect.

This book was a page turner from beginning to end. Things are not always what they seem. A young couple who unexpectedly now is expecting a child. But. They are not a couple. And the parents are not supporting. I love how you see things happen. Then see them happen again from all perspectives. Very well laid out. Ultimately it is not what they seem and will have you guessing until the end. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I Am Margaret Moore is a gothic summer camp listen that is perfect for the fall! Even though this is set in the summer time, it is very creepy and atmospheric. I really appreciated the incorporation of weather within this novel which provided a ton of great sensory opportunities and made the book even more gothic. The characters are lovable and awful at the same time, and it was just delightful! While being a gothic summer camp novel, this book has a lot of great themes of friendship, a wonderfully done found family troupe, and made me very emotional towards the end! This is a creepy cry in the shower kind of book which is rare and beautiful.

I really enjoyed the narrator's voice, which added to the atmosphere and gothic nature of this book. The voice made it really creepy, and I had goosebumps at many points while listening to this!

Choppy, unexpected, and quite the humdrum.

Hannah Capin's novel is certainly different. This takes way too long to get going. And when it does, the payoff is not worth it. The writing is extremely repetitive. It reads like poetry that is reaching for a word count on an essay. I was also not connected to the characters. The plot was too all over the place. I did not like the audiobook reader either. I was in it for the summary and all-in-all quickly lost interest.

I got a little lost and, some parts are too repetitive. This was a captivating listen and kept me guessing. It was very poetic, which isn't my thing but, I loved Margaret and her friends. The ending had such a unique pov. I do want to recommend it for anyone who wants a supernatural horror with summer camp vibes.

Thanks #netgallery for this book in exchange for an honest review. Great story. Loved the twist in the middle. Good narration.

This one is a bit slow but it is a good ghost story I think you need to go in to it as a lyrically slower story and just let yourself get lost in the story. Honestly I almost gave up on this one but I am glad I stuck with it I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would.

I liked the ending. I did truly end up enjoying it the first half I will admit is a bit confusing especially on audio but once I let myself just enjoy the beauty of the story I enjoyed it more.

Narrated by Caitlin Davies who does a very good job at bringing the emotions!
