This book and the entire Inferno Rising series is a life, love, and death affirming masterpiece encompassed in a beautifully crafted paranormal romance. The Cursed King has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous excitement, tragic pasts, cut throat and loyal supernatural creatures, strong family ties, nail biting fight and chase scenes, and even some chuckles, all set against the backdrop of the continuing war between dragon clans.

Airk and Angelika’s love story has all the feels - expect to gasp, to laugh, to grit your teeth, and to cry. When Airk was just a boy, he watched his parents and the White King and queen be murdered by Pytheios, the Red King. Following the murders, for five hundred years, Airk was imprisoned in the Red King’s dungeon. He escaped at the end of the previous book. Angelika, one of four Phoenix sisters, did not inherit any of the phoenix’s powers. All her sisters have powers and have mated with kings. She still wants to do her part despite her powerlessness and believes mating with Airk will help the fight against the Red King but Airk refuses believing he’s too dangerous. Due to his imprisonment and torture, he’s never shifted and as a result his dragon is feral. Airk and Angelika have a bit of a roller coaster ride to get to their HEA. It is definitely a c’mere, c’mere, c’mere, get away, get away, get away angsty dance.

Sprinkled throughout this beautifully paced story of Airk and Angelika’s HEA, we are given first person glimpses into Angelika’s phoenix sisters and their mates’ relationships. Other secondary characters from the first three books make cameo appearances as well. Rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main storyline, these characters are central to moving the story along. The conclusion of the book and the series was different than what I was envisioning but it was well crafted to bring the whole conflict (including the parallel Fire’s Edge series) to a beautifully satisfying conclusion.

This is 4th and final book in the Inferno Rising series. It is a stand alone but the series has a story arc that weaves the books together. To get the full richness of the story I suggest you read them all.

This is the 4th and final book in the Inferno rising series, and while each book can be read as a standalone to get the most out of the series I would recommend reading the entire series in order.
I loved the romance between Angelika and Arik.. There was so much chemistry and a whole lotta angst as Arik refuses to let himself feel anything for Angelika. So when they finally get together its so satisfying. Almost from the very first page its action packed, but everything ramps up even more the last few chapters. We are getting the end of the war between the dragons and King Pythos, after everything he has done he is finally going to get his comuppance.. and that ending was soo good..
Both of Abigail Owens dragon series have become fast favorites and I can't wait to see what else she writes..

I received an advanced reader's copy of The Cursed King by Abigail Owen from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I had been fortunate enough to read a few other novels by Abigail Owen previously and liked them a great deal, so I held my breath a little as I started this book in case it didn't measure up. Happily, it was as just as enjoyable as the others and an exciting end to this series!

Overall, this was a solid romance and I found it to be well written. Even though each novel in the Inferno Rising series can be read a standalone, they are much more enjoyable when read in order for complete context. Although the books are about dragons and their mates, each dragon warrior/king has a very different personality (rather than being a carbon copy of the same trope) and their mates are distinct and different as well.

I really enjoyed the primary and secondary characters' interactions and found their banter to be amusing throughout the novel. The steamy scenes between main characters, Airk Azdajah and Angelika Amon, were blazing hot and action was evenly paced throughout the novel as the plot raced forward.

I won’t spoil the end, but it’s nice to see characters and plot threads brought together in an exciting battle of royalty.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This was the perfect ending to the Inferno Rising series. I loved the chemistry between Airk and Angelika, I felt it from the moment they meet on page. The push and pull between them was addicting. I couldn’t stop reading. I was on edge almost the entire story, but I feel everything was resolved really well. I do wish we were given more of the happily ever after, but I always wish to see how the couples get on later. I’ll definitely be rereading this series.

The Cursed King is the fourth and final book in the “Inferno Rising” series. Along with continuing the ongoing storyline where the dragon shifter clans attempt to rebel and remove the false high king, it tells the love story of Angelika, daughter of the previous king and phoenix with dormant powers, and Airk, a dragon shifter slated to be king of the White clan who had been held captive by the pretender for centuries before escaping.

After all her sisters fall in love and mate with the other rebel kings, and because her Phoenix powers have not materialized, Angelika feels the only thing she has to offer to help the war is to mate with Airk, even though he is potentially feral and not able to control his dragon side. Airk refuses her offer because he is afraid he might hurt her, and many stops and starts occur as they attempt to avoid what is clear attraction between the two of them. However, this book more than the other three seems to have less focus on the romance between them and more on finalizing the ongoing conflict in their world. It took advantage of the fact that much of the backstory for both characters had already been shared in the three other books, so the romance was more believable than the one in book 2, but I definitely felt myself wishing for more time with just the two of them, developing into something more solid than just lust. Overall I liked this book, and felt it was a satisfying ending to the series, but book 3 is still my favorite.

I was super excited when I saw this in my library! These books are just so easy to breeze through. Abigail really knows to to write an engaging story that is action packed with the right amount of spice. As a conclusion, I'd say the loose ends were tied well and in a satisficing way.

This is the fourth and final book in the series. This is Airk and Angelika's story. Angelika is a dormant phoenix and unlike her sisters is powerless which leaves her feeling as a burden as the war escalates. Airk is a damaged dragon shifter who has been in captivity and tortured by Pytheios for eons.

The story starts strong with the chemistry between the pair leaping off the page. However as this is the finale I think their story gets a little lost as many of the previous characters, including of course Angelika's three sisters and their Kings are a huge part of the action.

This was a well crafted story but I think it was so busy tying up the lose ends the romance itself in the second half was put on the back burner (no pun intended).

Brooding and emotionally damaged Airk Azdajah, and Fluffy soft and cinnamon roll Angelika Amon were my most anticipated couple of this whole series. After all the trials they’ve both been through, all I can say at the end is: what a fitting ending they both had.

First, let’s talk about the first half of the book which was basically “the main MCs relationship”, the back and forth love/rejection was immensely satisfying; I got my heart pulled in every direction, but at the same time extremely frustrating.
Airk was treating Angelika like a freaking doormat, and I was about ready to throw my phone to the wall with how much he was F-up in the head. I was like Angelika slap him and be done with him…

Nevertheless, it can’t be argued that many readers or I are more interested in the steamy make up session, and Abigail delivered with her constant reference to the Kama Sutra.
I had been educated LOL thank you Airk.

Second, let’s talk about the cast of characters in this world, funny enough, it’s not just the four sisters who get a chance to shine, this series finale pretty much drops in on every character who’s had any kind of a noticeable impact on the story and I liked that a lot. (even though some of them were pretty cheesy and forgettable, It was still good)

And there’s also Villainy Py, I felt like he’s character was drawn out to a degree that it mostly felt like the plot would never reach its climax and at some point I felt the story was stretched to the limits.
That’s my only complaints. I would’ve preferred that the mortally danger should’ve been sprinkled through the whole plot instead of it behind reduced to a terrific ending (I still enjoyed) which would’ve kept on my toes better.

Overall, Inferno Rising has been an incredible series. It’s been an absolute delight getting to read about all four couple and see them grow over the past four books. Loved the pairing very much. Especially SKYLAR and LADON

Rating: 3.75 STARS
