After a drunken Las Vegas wedding, Autumn agrees to a 3-month marriage of convenience to Toby. Having recently inherited his role as an English viscount, he's hoping she can help him adjust to his new responsibilities. But when their fake relationship turns to something real, can Toby convince free-spirit Autumn to stay?
This book is adorable and laugh-out-loud funny. Both Autumn and Toby dislike being tied down, so it's difficult for them to accept that the feelings they have for each other could be real. It was endearing to see Autumn interacting with the staff at the manor house, fitting herself into Toby's world through kindness and curiosity. I also liked how Toby respected Autumn's need for new experiences, instead of trying to tie her down. These two characters are unconventional but a perfect fit.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
Sweet and sassy romance!
Autumn and Toby are true opposites - she's an American free spirit, currently working at a casino in Vegas, while he's the newest viscount and inextricably tied to his family's estate. One last drunken fling in Vegas finds them suddenly married, the benefits of which eventually become apparent to Toby and he asks her to stay with him for a few months to be a buffer for him as he settles into his new responsibilities.
I adored the slow build-up of their romance, how Autumn finds the stability she's never allowed herself to want before, and how Toby learns to appreciate his life through her eyes. Opposites-attract stories work best when both characters meet in the middle, and this one achieves that beautifully.
I wish there hadn't been as much of a focus on the "is she a gold-digger or not" thread, and her return to her previous situation seemed unnecessarily out of character by that time. They seemed included only because they worked as formulaic plot devices, rather than character-driven events. But those were small matters, and they didn't detract from the overall impact of the romance or the satisfying HEA.
If you like quick stories with very likable characters, you'll love this one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Autumn and Toby. They meet n Las Vegas. Autumn work at a casino and Toby is a Viscount. Toby has been drinking and playing at the casino. Another customer has Autumn fired, Toby steps in and try to save her job, but it doesn’t work. They go drinking afterwards and decide to get married. They wake up in bed together and decide to go to England, where Toby’s estate is. Together they help get it in shape and work through their issues and stay married.
Cute story, if a bit shallow on the whole. It was an ok read, but I don't see myself ever revisiting it. It would be a good read for romance lovers who like their spice somewhere between Hallmark Movie Channel and advanced smut.
After Toby wakes up to find himself married to Autumn, a Las Vegas croupier, he decides that the distraction of a marriage of convenience is exactly what he needs to sell his estate undetected. But Autumn and Wishcliffe alike latch onto his heart.
This was a quick, low-angst read about a pair of serious commitment-phobes. Autumn has been left behind enough times that she is determined to leave first, and Toby is frightened to find himself in possession of Wishcliffe. The characters are well-suited to each other and I thought Autumn in particular was well-written, with complex emotions and motivations.
However, I wish we had had the chance to see the characters really fall in love. I feel like we skated from the opening to the drama relatively quickly, so there's not much on-screen bonding to convince the reader of Toby and Autumn's love.
Overall, this was a light read that was well-written, though unfortunately a little lacking in swoon-worthy romance.
Toby just inherited the title of viscount after his older brother & nephew passed away and has reservation about it. Autumn is a waitress at a casino and had come out from a bad relationship, so both have issues.
They meet, get drunk & get married on the same night but the next day, Toby doesn’t remember the wedding or their night of sex. However, he needs to go back home to England to take care of things and asks Autumn to come with him as he doesn’t want to face things on his own.
Autumn, having lost her job thanks to Toby and with no family, decides to go along and while pretending to be a happy couple, they begin to get close and fall in love.
This was a nice/tame read with not much angst. There is a brief OW (his ex GF) who comes in the picture but he doesn’t have left over feelings for her and heroine takes care of her! Woohoo! So if anyone is looking for a sweet, low angst type read, this one is for you.
