Not one, but two secret identities!
Ana is just trying to survive after her father's mistakes left her and her brother on their own. She's finding her way well enough as a companion to the young daughter of a marquess, but accepting her inevitable spinsterhood has left her wanting just one night of passion before her impending thirtieth birthday.
Oliver is fascinated by the mysterious Lady Scarlet and wants far more than just one night, even though he knows he should be pursuing a proper marriage to a proper young miss, like the beautiful yet too-young Lady Penelope, instead. But when he meets Lady Penelope's paid companion, he knows he simply can't move on from Ana regardless of the impropriety of it all.
I loved the delicate dance between Oliver and Ana as she learns that he's nothing like his late father and brother, and he learns that there's more to his alluring Lady Scarlet than he'd first thought. But there are still more secrets to be spilled, and when they are the heartbreaking results were almost too much to bear.
By the end, we're happily rejoicing at not just Oliver and Ana's HEA but that of another couple as well. I wasn't entirely happy with the distribution of the estate in question (no spoilers, sorry) but all in all the romance hit every note beautifully. I really appreciated the wonderful inclusion of Ana's mixed heritage and the insights into that other culture. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Ana Gardner is determined to lose her virginity before her thirtieth birthday. She has it all planned when she visits London’s most elite brothel, the Silver Chalice. On spying Oliver Bedford, the Earl of Drake, at the brothel, she decides that he is the one. Oliver is also captivated but after their one night together, he is determined to learn her identity and does all he can to find her. However, she soon discovers that he is the son of the man responsible for her father’s death and subsequent family ruin. When Oliver finds her, it is when supposedly courting her young charge. However, he cannot forget her and must persuade her to give their relationship a chance.
This book had everything – drama and passion. From the first page, I was captivated by Ana and Oliver. Ana is such a strong character who is resolved to fighting to return to a better life whilst Oliver is an honourable man, trying to right his father and brother’s wrongs. I also enjoyed many of the secondary characters, who gave greater depth to this book. I so look forward to reading more in this series.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
It's one of those predictable stories which you can't help but love. Both the main characters are interesting and have a lot of chemistry. What was supposed to be a one night soon turned into a life time. Anna was prepared for a life of loneliness. There was no happy ending for her all thanks to her weak father who couldn't cope with the loss of his wife. Leaving Anna and her brother alone and penniless. All she wanted was one night to cherish for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, that wasn't what Oliver had in mind. He wanted more and it might not be possible for her to keep resisting the Earl regardless of their situation.
It's an engaging historical fiction with well-developed characters and romance. I find the story to be interesting, but as I mentioned, it was quite predictable from the very start. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance with strong female characters.
Tina Gabrielle is a new to me author and I couldn't be more excited that I found her. I absolutely loved this book! It was so lovely to see a multicultural heroine who embraced her diverse background. As a reader, we were shown how important her mother's culture and traditions are to her. Our heroine, Ana, was so sure of herself from the very start. Oliver, the hero, was supportive of Ana and wanted her from the first moment he saw her. He was the perfect cinnamon roll hero.
I'm pretty sure I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading. I can't wait to read the next book in the Daring Ladies series!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
One Night with an Earl is a such a captivating story! It just throws you in the mix from page one. Ana has had a difficult time since her mother passed and she has finally decided to take life into her own hands. She unknowingly makes a decision that will change her life by throwing her into Oliver's path. Oliver has somehow turned out to be a kind and sympathetic person. He definitely did not get those traits from his father or brother. I absolutely adored this book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really liked the setup, the heroine is near thirty and wants to experience pleasure at least once. So she goes to a brothel, that's where she meets the hero. They spend time together, but her identity is a secret, he only knows her as Lady Scarlet. So even though he's determined to find her, he can't. Until his grandmother set up for him to call on a debutante, but it's intrigued by the lady's companion, Ana Gardner, or is she?
I really liked it. I really liked the heroine's background story and diversity, her Middle Eastern heritage and culture is fascinating to read about. The writing was what set me back. It seemed repetitive at times and it wanted to be funny but it wasn't, at least for me. I did enjoy the story and the angst. There were other plot lines that seemed unnecessary and they were solved very quickly.
I really enjoyed this story, the spin what you think is going to happen a couple times in the story made me smile. Ana's father gambled away their life after they lot their mother, so Ana changed her name and hides in society has a chaperone. She saves up and decides to take her life into her own hands for just one night, and meets Oliver and has a magical night. She goes back to her life, but Oliver who is a Duke can not stop thinking about her. The story is how they find each other again, and the challenges they face over and over again.
I didn't want this gem to ever end! There was so much to love about this book.
I must admit, I wasn't sure about the premise at first. To immediately begin with Ana Gardner (her new identity after a family scandal) at an upscale brothel, determined to lose her virginity before her thirtieth birthday, really? I was quickly so!d, however, when it was clear that Ava knew who she was and came through family tragedy not wanting to miss out on having something of her own, no matter how briefly it would last.
Thank goodness she came across Oliver Bedford, the Earl of Drake, Except for one brief moment, he was a perfect hero for Ava. I was glad there wasn't too much time spent on Ava disbelieving the good heartedness of Oliver.
I loved that both Ava and Oliver had a maturity about them. Whether it was their age, background, or a combination of both, it was a refreshing change.
Another plus was some of the other characters that were introduced, who hopefully appear again in the series.
Again, very well written and kept me captivated from beginning to end.
It's been a while since I read a new-to-me historical romance author. I was glad to see the lovely characterization and interesting bits of research. Ana has a different point of view than most Regency heroines because of her heritage and current circumstances. Oliver is a good man who is trying to do the right things even though he doesn't have all the information. Penelope was a fun character, and I was glad when she was on the page. I took a star off because the second quarter of the book lagged while Ana fretted about things that she was eventually going to have to change her mind about. Once I got to the halfway point, the action picked up again until the HEA. I would read the next book in the series.

One Night with an Earl by Tina Gabrielle is the first book in the Daring Ladies series. I absolutely loved this book. One of the best romance novels that I’ve read in a long time.
Ana Gardner is an almost 30 year old ladies maid, who wants to lose her virginity before she turns 30. She sneaks out of the house where a kind and rather motherly brothel owner has agreed to let her choose a man for the job. She is drawn to a mystery man and they spend a passionate night together. They do not share their identities with each other, but the man could tell that she was a virgin. Ana retreats back to her life and the man tries to find her.
It turns out that Ana actually used to be a lady, but her parents died. Her father committed suicide after losing their estate while gambling. She changed her identity and became a ladies companion to Penelope. Ana is also of Middle Eastern heritage and her culture becomes a fun and informative side plot of the book. Our mystery man is Oliver Bedford, Earl of Drake. His father is the one who took Ana’s family’s estate, and she blames them for her family’s ruin. Additionally, Oliver has been set up by his meddling grandmother to court Penelope, Ana’s charge. Penelope has her own secret love though. He is the sixth son of a baron, who she is sure that her social climbing parents won’t accept.
This book has so much drama. I could not put it down. So many twists and turns. Everytime I would expect the plot to go in one direction, it would go in another. The story was emotional, funny, awkward (in a fun cringy way), and heartwarming. The characters were so well developed. Both the main and side characters were dynamic and multidimensional (except Penelope’s mom who kind of sucked all around).. I loved every second of this book, and I will absolutely devour the future books in this series. I highly recommend this book.
I was invited to read an ARC of One Night with an Earl, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #OneNightwithanEarl #NetGalley
I really enjoyed One Night With an Earl! The premise is intriguing, featuring an 'older' heroine (for historical romance standards) who wants to have sex for the first time. The man she chooses is a stranger at the time, but she soon finds out that he is the son of the man who took her home and ruined her family. To say she is hesitant to pursue a relationship is an understatement. Meanwhile, the titular earl is head over heels for her. He has a rough road ahead of him, breaking through her barriers to learn her secrets.
I rushed through the book, as I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend reading this when it comes out! I also enjoyed that the main characters were actually close in age, instead of the hero being like ten years older.
