This is such a great book! It has changed my feelings about suicide. I understand the other side of the effects each member of a family goes thru better now

This one was a hard one for me. I can’t recall disliking a main character so much as I did in this book. It took a lot for me to not throw this book across the room. But I guess that’s what makes a good author…….getting their readers to feel passionately about their main characters whether it
like or dislike.
In the end I found myself starting to feel a bit of sympathy for the main character and maybe even liking her a little bit.

This was a heart wrenching read that had me running for my tissues every few minutes. The prose was fluid with emotions that blended smoothly with the characters where the dynamics within the family were beautifully encapsulated. This was simply some good writing. A great read.

It’s hard to even do this book, from one of my favourite authors, justice. Beautifully written, it handles a number of sensitive topics in a sympathetic and realistic way.

Beth is trying to keep everything going at home. With four children, the youngest with Down’s Syndrome, life is hectic and she thinks that her marriage and her husband are fine.

Gemma, Drew’s sister, isn’t keen on Beth and thinks that she only married him for a secure and stable family life. She’s quite bitter and angry towards Beth, and it’s only later on in the story that we realise where all this resentment is coming from, and what secrets she and Drew keep.

There’s such a lot to this book. We can see how people are affected by childhood experiences, depression, the pressure to keep up appearances and the day to day difficulties of family life.

I found this to be a book that just instantly absorbs you into the plot and characters, and once you start reading it, it will engross you for hours. Thought provoking and powerful, this book manages to be sad, but also uplifting. Very highly recommended.

Another book devoured in one day. Such a heart wrenching subject but brilliantly written in a way that doesn't make you feel that there isn't hope. Family life is hard but when you feel you can't talk to anyone it becomes all consuming. I love the way the author approached this right from the beginning. Cracking read

A very touching book. Sam has expressed each characters emotions very well and told the story through it. Though the book's start is depressing with a suicide attempt by the husband, a wife who is struggling to keep things normal at home inspite of the imbalance and sister who herself is also unstable. But the book ends in positive notes giving hope that all relationship and situation can still be recovered. Beth was a very strong character because of the love she was instilled during her childhood by her parents and who still stood by her to support during this incident. Well written and touching.

This was nit what I was expecting, but was what I needed, sort of! It’s beautifully written, with some heart pulling emotions throughout the pages! Beautiful, crushing, and so much more! I highly recommend to those looking for a book that’ll crush them with the feelings, as this is sure to do!

Her Silent Husband by Sam Vickery was another beautifully written book by Sam. I look forward to her books.
This book is a very emotional read and had me gripped from the beginning. A real page turner that I didn’t want to put down as I wanted to find out what happens to the characters.

Trigger warning-depression, attempted suicide, and drug use is written within this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Bookouture for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

TRIGGER WARNING: this book deals with suicide, drug addiction and child cruelty
Beth is running around after her four children after school when she gets a phone call she will never forget. Her husband is in hospital having attempted to take his own life...
Her Silent Husband is an emotional novel about an uneasy and unpleasant domestic situation.
Beth thought she had the perfect family but the facade crumbles as Drew tries to hang himself. His sister Gemma is an addict. The fourth child they wanted to complete their famiy has Down Syndrome. The pressure has become immense and the couple barely have time for each other any more.
I felt a real mixture of emotions as I read this book. The book is written from Beth and Gemma's first person perspectives and I found myself in tune with both lead characters equally. Part of me felt angry at Beth for her selfishness and taking Drew for granted. Another part of me was also annoyed for Gemma trying to make amends when she has been a source of worry to her family. Drew also received my anger at his choice to end his life. My sympathies were aroused by the lack of communication and the obvious distress and desperation the characters experience.
However, things are not straightforward. Secrets have been looming in the background which are gradually revealed as events in the book unfold. About a third of the way through, we get an insight into both Beth and Drew's childhoods which goes a long way to explaining their adult behaviour and significantly increased my sympathy towards these characters.
Her Silent Husband is an emotive novel about the danger of being unappreciative of what we have and taking loved ones for granted.

I've read other books by Sam Vickery that I've loved. But this one was not to my liking despite numerous rave reviews from others. Mainly I did not care for the subject matter ( depression, suicide and addiction) I also did not like the main characters, Beth and her sister-in-law Gemma.

A very emotional and dramatic story told from the dual perspective of young woman whose husband attempts suicide and his troubled sister battling an addiction. Insightful and full of feeling, this novel definitely brings up difficult yet very important topics.

Possible Spoilers: Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. This was my first read by this author. Overall, it was an enjoyable book and a quick read. The book follows Beth, a mom of 4, including a daughter with special needs, who is having to cope with the aftershocks of her husband Drew's attempted suicide attempt. We also get to know Gemma, Drew's sister, and learn about their childhood and how it has impacted the present. I had a hard time empathizing with Beth as she did not seem too concerned that her husband tried to commit suicide. She seemed more angry that he didn't think about how it would impact her and the children. Fortunately they find their way back to each other as Drew recovers and they have to rethink their "perfect" life of keeping up with their neighbors. Tied up in a happy ending for all. I would recommend.

Beth does not know which end is up when she gets a disturbing phone call but her husband is in the hospital. When she discovers the reason that he is there then she is truly beside herself. He is in a coma is due to his own hand and she can’t believe that he would give up on their family.

Beth and Drew have four children including a six-year-old who is still slowly recovering from heart surgery. Between caring for her and their other children with all of their activities Beth does not know how she’s going to sit by her husband’s bedside day after day until and if he wakes from his coma.

Beth is not alone and her concern for Drew. His sister Gemma is there from the beginning and she carries her own share of guilt and concern. Gemma is keeping secrets that might make it clearer to that as to why Drew took such drastic actions. As the story progresses, readers are privy to some of the serious challenges that Gemma has been experiencing and why she feels responsible for what Drew is going through now.

Will Beth and Gemma be able to come to terms with whatever is going on with Drew so that when he should awake they can rebuild? Meanwhile, how will Beth manage all of her responsibilities as a mother and as a wife who is just beginning to learn about lies and secrets that her husband kept from her?

What a touching story. This book tells of some serious issues such as a suicide attempt and some horrors involving the foster care system. It also touches on other serious matters in such a way that make this to be an utterly compelling read. It was very hard not to feel for any of the principal characters in this story but light did shine through as we reached the satisfying conclusion.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Thank you so very much for allowing me an early read of this book for my honest opinion. I want to say a huge thank you to the author, Sam Vickery, the publishing company, Bookouture, and NetGalley.

Another outstanding, emotional roller coaster of a read from this author. The book does have a very strong message, and when reading through the book, the pressures of a married couple with kids truly comes through the pages. I could relate to the wife, as I felt her anger through every page, however her love comes through at the same time, and that emotion is something we can all relate to.

The ending of this book amazed me, and I got it--I just got it.

Thank you so much for the read. 5 stars!!

First, I want to thank Sam Vickery, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Ohh people will be talking about Sam Vickery’s Her Silent Husband long after they are done with the book!! She is the princess of pulling on my heartstrings. However, with this book she went into so much depth with the characters' storylines. It is definitely a book to add on to your TBR list!

Once again Sam’s book cover was beautiful and captured my heart! The graphics department did an amazing job.

Her Silent Husband storylines stirred up a lot of emotions within me! Beth was incredibly strong for all that was thrown at her! For a good portion of the book I had literally no words!! I was so angry with Drew!!

There was one point I was yelling at my Kindle cus I was fuming! Gemma wanted Beth to be there for her brother. However, how did she expect to drop her parental responsibilities and be there 24/7?!

There were some very deep and important topics within this book.

Within Her Silent Husband there is an important message if you read between the lines.

I’d firstly like to apologise for my delay in sharing my thoughts on this book. Current personal circumstances made this quite a difficult read and I didn’t want my review to be coloured in any way by that as Sam is an amazingly talented writer.

To tell this sort of story definitely takes some bravery. It looks a topic that, in my opinion, we hear about all too often and think about far too little. However, Sam’s stance on this provides a fresh perspective and looks at it more from the point of a view of a family’s reaction to a tragic incident. It definitely provides thought provoking dialogue around the issues it discussed.

I actually really respected the character of Beth and could identify a lot with her desire to give her children everything she never felt she had. I liked following her journey and seeing what she was able to learn. Gemma was a difficult character but you couldn’t fault her family loyalty.

This is, overall, a heart-warming story about loyalty, family, and most importantly, I think, the importance of communication. Another heart-felt and emotional read from a great author.

A moving & emotional book that stirs lots of feelings inside. Perhaps the true sign this book is good & hits your heart so well is because of the drug addiction & mental health realities that impact the characters. I honestly felt these characters were real people that I was witnessing going through struggles.

Drew suffers silently as is too common a situation for anyone struggling with mental health. No one seems to notice.

He describes his pain that he feels is need for him to not go on, having no choice & hoping his loved ones won’t hate him & hopes they understand

With mental health, there’s often a misconception by others that ending the pain is selfish when they really don’t know what’s going on that makes a person get to that point. People who’ve been at that point know the pain & that’s it’s nothing to do with being selfish. There’s a much more that goes on underneath it all that’s kept quiet while one suffers silently.

Here, you see both sides - one who thinks it’s selfish but the person who couldn’t go on has their own reasons.

The husband and wife seem to have it all. He earns a high income, they live in a beautiful home, their children are actively involved academically and in all kinds of "extra" activities. Why then does he attempt to kill himself? Why is his life so miserable he wants to end it. Does his sister hold the secrets to his misery? There is a strained relationship between the wife and sister. Can they heal the rift between them, learn to understand each other, and work together to save the man who lays unconscious? As they all struggle with the stresses of life, the father and husband lies in the hospital In a coma needing some healing to more than just his physical body. Sam Vickery has given this novel a good narrative, creative storyline, and plot, and interesting backstories to make this an entertaining book. If you like mysteries, family stories you will enjoy this book. Thanks to #NetGalley#HerSilentHusband for the opportunity to read and review this book.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Her Silent Husband' by Sam Vickery.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Sam Vickery, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 15th November 2021.

This is the fourth book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'One Last Second', 'My Only Child' and 'Save My Daughter' which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that 'Fans of Jodi Picoult, Kelly Rimmer and Diane Chamberlain will be captivated by this unforgettable page-turner.' I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Sam Vickery and if this is half as good as 'One Last Second', 'My Only Child' and 'Save My Daughter' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 44 chapters. The chapters are medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is set in Washington, USA 🇺🇸.

This book is written in first perspective and the main protagonists are Beth and Gemma. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

'Her Silent Husband' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Sam discusses/includes suicide, child abuse and drug addiction.

Well, Well, Well, Sam Vickery you have done it again!!! Congratulations on yet another breathe taking novel!! 🎉

This book is extremely well written and the layout with the past and present chapters are perfect. They drip feed you information of what has gone on in the past with just the right amount of information to give you an idea of what is going on but not too much so that you work it all out. The cover and blurb work perfectly with the storyline.

Wow!! What an absolutely breathe taking and heart stopping storyline. Every partners worst nightmare and as a partner and a mother it had me absolutely hooked. It is a beautiful and devastating plot that really shows the true, raw and gripping emotions of how loved ones feel when someone decides to take their own life. I really resonated with this story as my uncle did exactly that and you can't explain the anger, devastation and grief you go through but Sam had it down to a tee. It actually made me wonder if she went through something similar herself as she captivated the feelings I felt absolutely perfectly when I discovered what had happened it is filled with grief, anger, resent, denial, tears and so so so much more!!! . It just completely blew me away and left me sitting there thinking how life can change in a second. It also made me question what would I do and how would I feel if I was in the situation of either Gemma or Beth . Would I forgive Drew?

However, it wasn't just the one heart tugging storyline as you had the other subplots going on at the same time with Gemma and Tristan. I won't say too much as I don't want to give to much away but oh how I felt for Beth, Gemma and Tristan. Have your tissues at the ready ladies and gents cause this one is a complete tear jerker!!!

The storyline was set at a perfect pace, not too fast and not too slow. It gave just the right amount of time for you to be able to take everything in as it was happening and question yourself about what you would do. It really is thought provoking.
It is an absolute roller-coaster ride of emotions and filled with love, deceit, secrets, tension and trust. A very powerful and gripping depiction of the power and intensity of family, love and what you do for you children.. It sucked me in from page one until the tear jerking ending.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture

The characters are unique, well defined and realistic. The strength of Beth and Gemma absolutely shine through as does the devastation Drew is going through and also created. Many would dislike Beth for her attitude but if I have been in a similar position and her feelings almost mirrored mine with the anger and grief. Nobody knows how they would react until they are in that situation. I did have a lot of sympathy for Beth but I also had sympathy for Gemma, Tristan and also later on for Drew. This book shows the power and devastation of what one person's actions do to a whole family.

I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!! Another congratulations to Sam Vickery and I do believe that Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain have some strong competition here when it comes to the book charts. Looking forward to her next gripping, and going by all her previous work, what promises to be heart rendering.

Overall an. Emotionally raw, heart breaking, page turning, tear jerking and powerful novel of a parents love and sacrifice and of heartbreak and devastation. Powerful and addictive

Genres covered in this novel include Romance Novel, Domestic Fiction and Romance Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Jodi Picoult, Kelly Rimmer and Diane Chamberlain.
