This was such a cute book about a mouse family getting ready for Christmas. The illustrations are gorgeous!
An instant new Christmas classic! Not only will children just looove this story, adults will enjoy it too as they read along. The poem story is written so well... it's perfect! The illustrations are beyond perfect; I can't believe all the amazing details added.
I cracked up laughing when I saw what was pulling Santa Mouse's sleigh... (No spoilers here! I won't tell you, as you'll have to read the book for yourself. But I was very pleased by the choice.)
If you giving gifts to children this year, BUY THIS BOOK for them! It's definitely worth it. This book is just as good as the original "The Night Before Christmas", for sure. Absolutely charming!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
A lovely cute Christmas book, with great illustrations. Perfect to read to small children, or for older ones to read for themselves.
What a wonderful, Bea Christmas book to enjoy this year! My family always read Twas The Night Before Christmas when we were little and this is sure to be added to our family favorites. All the cute little mice gathering together for the fun shows just what the holidays about--family.
I’m in love with this book!!!!!! This time of year I’m always looking for new books for my youngest grandchildren, ages 5 and 8.
This book is a treasure. It follows the original Night Before Christmas but is told from the perspective of the mice!!
The words to the poem are big hearted, fun and I know will make them giggle. We follow all of the mice in the family the day before Christmas as they are decorating the house and getting ready for a big party.
We are able to see, through the amazingly detailed illustrations, all of the decorations in the house, the present wrapping and fun!!
The children are allowed up during the party until their bedtime. Then the adult mice get ready for dancing!!! They have an orchestra and dance away even out through the door.
“And as they were dancing, what sight caught their eyes?
A colorful, fast-moving blur in the skies!
Then clearly they saw it”: a brilliant red sleigh.
And lo and behold, it was headed their way!
I have read this at least 4 times and am so impressed with the story and the incredible details. I have immediately ordered 3 copies of the book which is available now!!
This will put you in the holiday mood very quickly, I can’t wait to read this to my grandchildren! I know this book will be one that they pour over, checking out all of the little mice and their sweet house, finding new things that catch their eye each time.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
It was my pleasure to read and review this delightful book.
A precious children's story with delightful illustrations to remind us that Christmas is not about receiving, but about gifts of generosity, kindness, charity, and love. Perfect for reading at Christmastime or any time. Children will delight in the illustrations.
Very cute holiday book about a big family of mice celebrating Christmas!! Lovely, cozy illustrations.
THE MICE BEFORE CHRISTMAS by Anne L Watson, illustrated by Wendy Edelson is a retelling of Clement Moore’s ‘The Night Before Christmas’ aka A Visit from St. Nicholas.
Told in AABB rhyming scheme, THE MICE BEFORE CHRISTMAS reverses the children/parents with mice, as they celebrate the Christmas Holiday, preparing for the arrival of Santa ‘Mouse’. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful and Victorian-esque stylization, and would easily make for perfect Christmas greeting cards.
THE MICE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is an enjoyable, holiday story line that is sure to please the child in everyone.

This was cute. The illustrations were beautiful, easily my favorite part of the book. The rhymes were a bit weak at times. Still enjoyed the story though.
What a delightful Christmas tale for young readers.
Written in the same rhyming pattern as "The Night Before Christmas", it tells the story of a community of mice and how they celebrate Christmas. The ending was very clever and leads right into Clement Moore's poem.
The illustrations are whimsical and bursting with color. For young and old alike this is a treat!
Thanks to net galley for a free copy for an honest review.
This rhyming and rhythmic take on the Night Before Christmas turns the table on "Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...", and puts the mice at center stage. The festive mice dance, decorate, feast, and revel as they await Santa Mouse. In an adorable twist, he arrives with hamsters pulling his sleigh!
The illustrations are charming and colorful, with lots of details and a view into each room of the house. I had the thought that some of the full spread pages would make a fun seek and find as various mice were discovered throughout the rooms.
As the holidays get closer, The Mice Before Christmas makes a great choice for books to gift or read aloud. I highly recommend this book for all ages.

Love Love Love! This book was everything I would want in a holiday story.. Anne L. Watson writes a brilliant edition to the Night Before Christmas by explaining what the mice were doing that night. It’s fun and creative and the story just fits. Wendy Edelson illustrated the most gorgeous pictures! I wouldn’t mind having some of those drawings to frame and hang on my wall. The illustrations also seamlessly helped bring the story to life. This book is an absolute win and I plan to buy a copy for my friends with kids and for the little lending library that I have.

The Mice Before Christmas by Anne L. Watson is a very cute Christmas story for children 4+ years old.
A fantastic companion to the original poem and full of Christmas spirit. I loved how the family's festivities were described in the rhyme and illustrated in wonderful watercolors.
this was absolutely delightful. I'm in love with the illustrations at the expansion upon the original poem . the original is fine and good but I would much prefer to read about mice to my niece. she's going to get the night before Christmas from everyone else I couldn't tell her about mice and she will absolutely love it . I still just love the art style in this book but it's just so cute and I like the idea of having new Traditions and new stories to get to share . it may only be November but I'm ready for Christmas already!!
As a kindergarten teacher, I have read more Christmas books than I care to imagine and there are always some favorites that stick in my mind. I have to say this one will definitely become a new favorite! I was completely enchanted by both the illustrations and the beautiful poetry in this book.
Sometimes when I read a rhyming book something about it aggravates me. Perhaps the rhymes aren't quite right or the flow of the language is off. Not so with this book - it is perfect and beautifully executed. A huge well done to the author and illustrator on this one. It would keep children of many ages entertained for hours and I can imagine the joy they would get from looking at the pictures and finding all the amazing things going on.
I would be happy to give this book as a gift to any young family.
This book contains a spin off of the original "Twas The Night Before Christmas." which is still a favorite of mine. I thought to was very unique although it followed the same format as the original. I loved all the rhyming and the play on words. I enjoyed all of the beautiful water color paintings. They were very detailed. I can tell that this would have been one of my favorite books when I was a child. I caught myself laughing at the hamsters in place of the reindeer. And I loved how realistic they made each situation for the mice in comparison to a human family. I truly hope this book becomes a family tradition to read for many.
Picture books about mice rarely fail to entertain me and this one was not unlike the rest. The rhyme pattern was adorable and the illustrations were gorgeous. Definitely recommend.
I love Christmas and I loved this book.
The author has cleverly shown us in verse what mice do at Christmas. It is fun and witty.
The story is well told and is certain to appeal to young and old. A great story for Parents and Grandparents to read to their children/grandchildren and then later for the children/grandchildren to read to their Parents/Grandparents.
A wonderful tale.
As a fan of the old, original Santa Mouse books, I don't think you can have too many stories about mice and Christmas. The illustrations in this book are phenomenal and so full of details and beautiful color. The illustrations of a cutaway of the house interior, banquet feast, and the full party scene were favorites of mine and children will pore over the details in the scenes. The story, told in rhyme, could be interpreted as a combination of elements of the Nutcracker and Twas the Night Before Christmas. The mice are preparing for a Christmas feast, Christmas dance, and waiting for Santa Mouse so everyone in the house is busy preparing for the holiday or participating in festivities. Wonderful book!
